So the last few days I’ve been skipping about New York, walking as I usually do across all different neighborhoods and listening to my iPod as I get from appointment to yoga class to appointment again. :) On Sunday, I was in Grammercy, then had to pop up to the Upper East Side to visit some friends, then came back Downtown. I believe it was that day, when I passed a bunch of different Walgreens or Duane Reades, all with propped up signs outside their door announcing “Flu Shot, only $24.99!” Then today, the same thing happened! I kept seeing signs on the street and proudly bolstered in windows for the friggin’ flu vaccine!
My first thought was, “Oh no! Are they already starting to promote that??” Then I thought, “Damn big pharmaceutical advertising!” And theeeeen I thought, “Hmm…Well maybe people don’t always get to hear the other side- why we shouldn’t get a flu vaccine.” Hence I felt the rather urgent need to write this blog.
There have been lots of studies that conclude that Flu Vaccines don’t work!! And in many cases actually can cause more harm.
We have to understand that these vaccines are promoted for commercial reasons. And oh boy, you better believe that there is a LOT of money to be made with vaccines. For this year’s flu season, five biopharmaceutical companies have been awarded massive contracts by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for development and production of more than 195 million doses of swine flu vaccine, in addition to the seasonal flu vaccine. The companies — Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, MedImmune, Australian drug maker CSL, and Sanofi-Pasteur — will likely make a great deal of money. CSL has contracts to supply $180 million worth of bulk antigen to the U.S. MedImmune will supply 40 million doses of its live attenuated nasal spray swine flu vaccine for more than $450 million. And Sanofi-Pasteur is providing more than 100 million doses of monovalent swine flu vaccine, a $690 million order (Source of statatistics, Dr. Mercola).
Whew, that is a lot of money! Now let’s see why these vaccines may not be such a great idea after all…
First of all, there is mercury and aluminum in these vaccines, deemed to be “safe levels” by some upper echelon of government. But what does that mean? Mercury is a serious toxin, and has been linked to brain damage, and aluminum has been linked to serious illnesses as well. These vaccines are certainly not anything I would willingly inject into my body!!
There are serious adverse reactions and deaths from vaccines, but it is estimated that only 1 to 10% of side effects or deaths are ever reported. As there are currently no laws about following up and reporting side effect we really have no true picture about the negative effects of these vaccinations.
Second of all, an overwhelming amount of independent studies, not linked to the pharmaceutical industry, have reached the same conclusion—that flu shots simply do NOT work as advertised. I urge you strongly to do some independent research and see what you find if you are on the fence. Be sure that the information you are reading is not put forth by the big pharm. companies or even the US Health officials- I would look into independent sources.
With so much money at stake, there certainly is a lot of disinformation and fear being spread around. I know many people fearful about getting the dreaded flu! Vaccines support the notion of “germ theory,” first popularized by Louis Pasteur (who late in life admitted that he was wrong, by the way), which advocates that outside viruses and germs are solely responsible for us getting sick.
I believe, as many natural health care practitioners and doctors also believe, that these external germs can only “get us” if we have internal toxicity or an impaired immune system. Isn’t it the case when people are exposed to the same exact germs, that some people get sick and others don’t?? If you are healthy from the inside out, you can be exposed to these germs and not get sick. We DO have some control as far as these sicknesses are concerned, and we can do something to prevent it!
Well what should we do?
Well I won’t be getting the flu or the swine flu shot, and certainly don’t recommend it. Like I mentioned, if you are really interested in this topic you should educate yourself and really look into some info so you can make your own either way. I would definitely not rely on all the fancy TV ads and pop-up ads outside drugstores, painting a happy and safe picture of the vaccines, to sway my decision. Remember: Big business pharmaceuticals are looking out for their profits- not necessarily your health. So we have to all look out for ourselves and each other.
And of course, through our diet and lifestyle, we must work to strengthen our immune system as much as possible. We have to eat clean-digesting, natural and unprocessed foods as much as possible, and constantly cleanse out all the junk. That way, we will be much less susceptible to the “evil” germs of the world, and be healthy in a way that we control ourselves. Let’s focus on making ourselves as healthy and strong as possible, rather than getting a toxin-filled vaccine that has widely been shown not to work anyways!
I have noticed a huge difference since I started living this lifestyle. Although I get a little cough or cold maybe once every 2 years or so, I’m constantly (and I mean constantly!) exposed to sniffling, coughing fellow subway riders in enclosed spaces on trains, and by my yoga students. If the germ theory were 100% correct, that would mean that I should be sick about 50 times a year!
I know whenever I am feeling sluggish or bogged down, I occasionally will do a water cleanse followed with routine exercises and feel so much better than letting a cold take over me. Of course listening to your body is always best, and getting plenty of sleep is important!
Take care of yourself loves. Hope you have a lovely evening and day tomorrow!!!
In health and love,
Kimberly

Hi Kimberly!
I completely agree with what you’re saying in this post! I am normally lucky (or healthy) enough to not catch the flu during the cold season, but to compensate for that I suffer from SERIOUSLY dry skin (mainly on my face, neck & arms) throughout the winter. Could you give any dietary recommendations for me and others with the same problem?
Thanks for your blog, hints, recipes and above all positive attitude!
Hi Anni! I hear you about the dry skin. I recommend consuming and applying coconut oil!! You can use it in raw desserts (see some recipes here), add it to smoothies, even cook with it, etc. It is the best thing that I have found to consume that helps with dry skin! You can also apply it topically, and it will absorb right in, and works great!
Come visit me again. :)
xx Kimberly
Thanks, coconut oil it is then! Actually I do have some at home and have applied it on my skin a couple of times. I just feel a bit weird taking something out of my kitchen cupboard and putting it on my face, guess I’ll need to buy a separate jar for the bathroom! :)
Hi Anni,
Coconut oil is great for the body. I personally don’t put it on my face! :) Be sure to use creams that are NOT too heavy on your face, as they will actually sit there and block the natural respiration processes of your skin. They are actually more drying. You should check out my face cream, The Solution, which works really great for optimal hydration! For my dry-skinned friends, I recommend 2 coats. 2 coats of a product that absorbs deeply are far better than one, clogging coat that will sit on the surface of your face and oxidize. :)
Hi Kim,
Any chance you’ll start selling in Finland? :) I’ve been trying for years to find some facial cream that would get me decently through the winter period but no luck yet..I’ll keep looking, and be grateful that for now dry skin is my biggest “health issue” :)
Hi Anni,
Yes, dry skin is not the worst issue you could have!
Yes, hopefully we will be international in the future and can ship to Finland!! :)
I have to ask, is that giraffe dead?
Hey Lisa, yes, he is. :( but he was old I think!! See my response to both of you in C’s comment. :)
Thank you for posting this Kimberly. It is absolutely frightening to witness the degree to which they’re pushing this flu shot. To the doctors’ credit, I think even THEY are misinformed about what’s actually in it. (My mom’s GP told her there was NO mercury it in at all, which I don’t believe for a second.) I just wish more people would THINK instead of blindly following stuff like this. It’s so obvious to me if you follow the money. The pharmaceutical companies must be laughing at us – I doubt even they thought mass vaccination would be so easy! Sad.
Hi Michelle,
I know! When you look at the amount of money to be made, and the amount of studies that show that these flu vaccines mean nothing, something is clearly not adding up…. I think that most people do not want to believe that the government would be involved with money-making ventures at the sake of the health of its people, but I know that it happens all the time in the food industry. The way corn is subsidized, with the powerful, rich lobbyists of the dairy industry etc. Its not the most comforting idea, but it shows that we DO really have to watch out for ourselves and investigate!! xx Kimberly
Thanks for posting this, Kim. I was on the fence about getting the shots, but am now leaning toward skipping the vax. Good point about the mercury–and the money!
Good Bria- Investigate!!
another gr8 post thanks Kimberly! I am still unsure what I will be doing…I have been trying to keep as healthy as possible and recently steeped fresh chopped garlic in raw apple cider vinegar which i’ll take by the tablespoon in a couple weeks. Garlic is supposed to be a miracle food.
Kimberly what are your thoughts on MMS? Miracle Mineral Supplement. I’ve heard it mentioned severeal times on health boards.
thanks!
Hey Kat! In any case I am glad that you are taking care of yourself. :) Raw apple cider vinegar is the only non-acid forming vinegar in the body and is recommended. Be careful with too much garlic though. Garlic can be great for very acidic and toxic people as it breaks up the mucus in the body. For healthy people I work with and myself, I generally don’t recommend it (or in very limited quantities), because it can hurt the delicate mucus membrane in the digestive tract and cause imbalance- again that is for people that have been healthy for quite some time and have very little mucus in their body. In yoga we say garlic is very “rajastic”, meaning action-inducing, and Swami Sivananda said eating garlic is even worse than eating red meat for your meditation practice! So, as always, just monitor how you personally do with it and how you feel, and adjust accordingly. :)
I don’t know too much about MMS or Jim Hubble, but I am always wary of “miracle” potions and tonics. It may be beneficial for sure, and I will look more into it, but having a highly alkaline diet is more powerful that relying on any one potion. :)
xx Kimberly
thanks for the advice Kim especially on the garlic! Noted! : )
Hi Kimberly –
I just have a couple questions for you and wasn’t sure how to contact you. I was just wondering if you have ever struggled with food issues or overeating? You seem like you have it all together … was this always the case for you? And also do you have any more tips on food combining or good books or blogs that you recommend on the subject?
Thanks so much! I think your blog is great :D
Hi Jenny! I have definitely had those struggles, and one of the reasons I am so into sharing is that I want other women and people to know that they don’t have to struggle like that. :) I used to be trapped into the calorie, fat and carb counting game. I realize that that is not the best or most effective way to maintain your weight, and it is is actually quite miserable!!
I firmly believe that (women especially) have to feel really good on any given day to follow through and not overeat and emotionally eat. That is why I focus on changing people’s diet regimes from breakfast on. If we feel we have been “bad” early on the day and we “blew it”, often we don’t feel as good about ourselves and can cave in and pig out later on again. If we did the opposite, and feel light and great, we are less likely to cave into emotional eating. So start by really focusing on what goes into your mouth first, and the earliest part of your day. I generally recommend to be sure it is the green smoothie, or next choice is some fruit. Then build from there to lunch, etc. Fruit should be eaten on an empty stomach. Never eat it for dessert!! Don’t combine proteins with starches. Eat one or the other at a meal. Those are the most important general rules.
Hope that helps, and keep in touch, let me know how you do!
xx Kimberly
Thank you so much for replying Kimberly! I am having problems maintaining good habits :D Sometimes I’ll go for stretches without eating much and then I’ll want to eat eat eat! What do your eatinghabits look like? How do you usually eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner? Any tips on how I can be more consistent with my eating habits??
Hi Jenny,
Start your day off right, and build from there. Pick one habit to get really disciplined with. I suggest the Green Smoothie or fruit for breakfast. Stick to that, and even if you have evenings out of what is going on the rest of your day, you’ve built a strong foundation with the morning time, and you are ahead of the game every day b/c you already have so many nutrients in your body.
As long as I start my day with a green drink, I know the chances of me staying on my plan are infinitely higher!!

I’m with Lisa. I have to know if the giraffe is dead. I am hoping it was just sleeping or about to give birth or something…and btw, regarding the flu shot. I got it for the first time last year and was told I could pay more for the “organic” one which was free of those minerals- is there really such a thing? I wasn’t going to get it but then naively heard the word “organic” and the promise and caved in….
Hey C!
Hope all is well over there in the Middle East. :)
Both to you and Lisa- The giraffe is dead. That picture was from the Okavangu Delta in Botswana where we happened upon him. From the angle that picture was taken, his skin is intact, but from where I was standing, his entire insides were eaten out already by jackles and hyennas. Sorry! But it’s not as sad as it seems. HIs hair on his head was scruffy and coarse, and my friend from Botswana said he was old, so hopefully he just died of old age. That is what I am going to believe anyway!
I’ve never heard of the “organic” flu shot. As far as I understand, they all contain mercury and toxins, and fall into the same category. There have been so many studies to disprove their validity, and I even saw one that said that if you got a flu shot last year you were twice as likely to get the swine flu this year! So again, I’m not totally sure about the organic one you speak of…but personally I am going to avoid all of them. :) Hope you are well!! xx Kimberly
Hi Kimberly!
Thank you so much for your blog on this sensitive subject.
My daughter and I will definitely not be getting the H1N1 vaccine or any other.
My daughter’s pediatrician said that the vaccines at his clinic have no mercury in them. But they do have thimerisol (sp?), which has mercury in it!
We have to listen to our dreams of wellness and not fall into the nightmares of vaccinations and disease because that is what we are told to do.
Thank you for your strength!
Jennifer
What did you do to that poor giraffe?!
What do you think about Jojoba oil on the face?
HI Aaron!
Ha!! How is your ‘stache going??
Check out my latest blog for my take on putting plain oil on the face- How to Moisturize your skin in the winter. :)

were there requirements for shots to travel to any of the countries you went to? ive always wondered if they force that or if it’s just recommended.
HI NS,
I did have to get a yellow fever vaccine when I went to Africa. I crossed 13 countries’ borders, and you’re supposed to show them your little book to prove you got it to cross, but they never checked once!! I also got all my Hep A and B. I can’t remember any other vaccines, but when I was in Mozambique I was on malaria pills- uggh!
GOSH! I thought of you Kim when I saw this.

I wasn’t going to get the shot… but I thought I would share this sad story with you guys!
With love,

Hi Kimberly,
I have been trying to find a way to contact you for some info. I have been tampering with raw foods for about 10 years- I became really into it recently when pregnant with my 3rd child. After giving birth via section, I continued raw until about a month ago(she is now 5 months old). I noticed that my weight loss was not happening, I still had a good 10-15 pounds to loose to be at my pre pregnancy weight. So I became desperate and decided to do a “count my cals” diet which I hate- and have since lost about 7 pounds. I hate eating this way, I miss my fruit, nuts, avocado, oils and mostly cacao treats ( your macaroons are amazing as are the key lime bars!!). I am wondering why I was not losing weight and I now fear that if I go raw I won’t be able to shed the last few pounds or worst, I will gain!! I hate being so weight conscience, but I am not comfortable feeling overweight. I always assumed that by being raw, being small is a given. Is it possible, I was eating too much fat? There is no info on this topic anywhere on line, it is all raw and weight loss, not weight gain…?? Oh- and great info on vaccines, I am on the fence too as my children are all tiny and the doctors are urging me to vaccinate for their sake- laying on the guilt!! Thanks, Nathalie :)
Hey Nathalie,
Yes, most raw foodists don’t talk about the importance of cleansing. A raw food diet kicks up a lot of old waste (weight!) which needs to be eliminated, otherwise it recirculates and doesn’t leave the body. What you take out is just as important a what you put in. I’m a big fan of probiotics, gravity centered colonics, dry brushing, and other cleansing mechanisms. Also, I’m a big advocate of food combining. Fruit should only be eaten on an empty stomach, and starches and proteins (even raw) shouldn’t mix, as it slows digestion and can compound weight problems! If you are trying to lose weight I would cut out oil- you don’t need the dense fat right now. Avocados are great for salads and fat, and you can make dressings without oil. Also check out my blog, “The First Dozen: Easy Weight Loss Tips.”
Hope that helps, and please keep in touch with me!
xx Kimberly
You seem like such a nice person!

Kim,
Thank you for posting an article regarding the possible dangers of vaccines and flu shots. You are absolutely right. There is big, big money to be made and this is unfortunately never revealed or talked about.
Good for you! Be bold and open up discussions on topics such as these and many more. I do everyday with my patients.
Grateful for women like you. Opening many eyes and planting good seeds.
Namaste,
Dr. Anna

In June 2009, the World Health Organization declared the new strain of swine-origin H1N1 as a pandemic. This strain is often called swine flu by the public media. This novel virus spread worldwide and had caused about 17,000 deaths by the start of 2010. On August 10, 2010, the World Health Organization declared the H1N1 influenza pandemic over, saying worldwide flu activity had returned to typical seasonal patterns.`*
In common speech, ‘vaccination’ and ‘immunization’ have a similar meaning. This distinguishes it from inoculation, which uses unweakened live pathogens, although in common usage either is used to refer to an immunization. ‘..”‘
