I was hiking today near Malibu and this topic came to mind: how important proper breathing is. Usually we only focus on our breath when we’re gasping for more oxygen during rigorous physical activity- like running or playing tennis, or when we’re in a mentally quiet state- for instance during meditation or when made conscious of our inhales and exhales by an instructor during a yoga class.
But proper breathing all of the time ensures us getting more oxygen in our system, which helps keep us more balanced, calm and less apt to look for external stimulation, like unnecessary food!!!
This video is my total stream of consciousness on the topic while I was hiking. I hope you enjoy our conversation! And so it is not a one-sided conversation, please share any discoveries you might have about your own breath, once you started putting your hands on your stomach or paying attention to your breath. Did you notice you were breathing more shallowly than you realized? And did you notice how much calmer and better in general you felt when you started consciously slowing down your breathing?
I’ll see you back here soon, and never forget about your post workout snack!!!
Love, Kimberly
PS: The Beauty Detox Solution in bookstores Tuesday!! Please share the news with your family and friends that you want to share a more naturally healthy and beautiful lifestyle with! :)
Very Nice blog and vedio
Hi Kimberly,
I found that ever since I started focusing on doing things more consciously I also began breathing that way. It’s just like you said, I noticed that I had been breathing really shallowly before. I actually learned how to breathe “properly” again when I started doing yoga a few years ago. Along with a more wholesome diet I was able to loose basically all symptoms of asthma that had really been bothering me for years.
Breathing consciously really does make all the difference. Just like with any other “task”, we do so much better when we do them consciously. This is certainly the case with eating also. Eating consciously you end up eating less, enjoying your food more and helping your digestion by really chewing your food!
Thank you for the great blog and the amazing energy and positiveness you share!
Wishing you a conscious week,
Santeri @ cookingwithsocrates.com
Dear Kimberly, greetings from Finland. I ordered your book today from a Finnish webstore. They promised to send it within five days, so I’m excited to see, how soon it really arrives! It’s so interesting to read it then. With love, Helena.
Kimberly–I am so excited! I just got notice that my copy of your book will arrive tomorrow! I seriously can’t wait! Besides, I am so thankfull that I get to tell everyone I had a consultation with a famous author now. You are the best–further proof that good stuff happens to good people!
This is such a good tip! I certainly don’t stop to think about it enough, and unfortunately, it seems that when it is the most critical and when it would be the most beneficial, (when we’re stressed out and probably not stopping to breathe) is when we are most likely to forget and not be conscious about it! I think starting a yoga program might be just what I need to make me more aware of it! Thanks, Kim!
It took me an entire day of practicing to even relax my abdomen enough to even take in full breaths! That was last year when I first read what you had to say about breathing. Now I’m a lot more conscious of my breaths and it helps substantially!!
Cant’ wait to get your book tomorrow!! You’re awesome :)
Hi Kimberly,
I was browsing around in a bookstore and found your book. I bought it and love it! I am in esthetician school and one of my favorite parts is learning about how much the insides of you and the food you eat contribute to your skin health and beauty. I bunch of people in my class were looking at the book and at least one girl is going to go buy it this week too! You point out really interesting facts and how you layed out the book is great. Sorry this is a little off topic from your post. I did watch your video though and it is great! I just wanted to leave a comment in general too though.
Anyways…I did have one question though about food combining. I totally get it and it makes sense to me, but you see, I have a boyfriend who used to do bodybuilding. He is still convinced about eating LOTS of protein (chicken, whey), and does the whole veggies, chicken, and rice together. I explained to him food combining but he disagrees. He says it seems like this is a thing where the science and logic don’t add up to him…he says how the chicken-brown rice bodybuilder diet has seemed to work for decades and is healthy and that no bodybuilders have really had any problems with heart disease, colon cancer, etc. Whenever I have looked online for different viewpoints on food combining, a lot of people will say blah blah no real good evidence or that you cannot 100% separate carbs and proteins since a lot of starchy/carb foods have at least a little tiny bit of protein–which im sure you know and in a more basic way it is like ok…dont eat a huge chunk of protein and a huge chunk of carbs/starchy food together. I’m totally not trying to bash you on anything and hope it doesnt come off rude, im honestly just asking since my boyfriend disagrees. I guess im not even sure exactly what im asking! But maybe its a little confusing the point my boyfriend brought up about bodybuilders not having any issues, seemingly with their rice-chicken together diet.
WELL…I just want to say that I totally support you and think you are amazing and love you! I love your viewpoint on everything. You are a beautiful person in all ways and love your new book! :)
Thanks,
Lauren

This is such a great reminder. Congratulations on your book. It’s looks gorgeous and I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for generously sharing all the good advice.
Hi Kimberly!
I just received the beauty detox solution yesterday and I love it so far!! I have been drinking the glowing green smoothie every day now, but still don’t know if I’m using the correct recipe. I have heard you say that you should use 2 apples and 2 pears in the smoothie instead of one in each, yet your book even has the recipe with one one of each. I still don’t know which is right?? PLEASE e-mail me and let me know as soon as possible, or if anyone on here knows, thanks!
Hi Kim,
I just got a copy of your book through internet and I can’t wait to receive it.
Thank you for all your help while I was loosing wait and the great advices that I receive from you!
Hope to see you soon and keep us posted if you have a presentation of your book in NYC in any library.

Claudia
Hi Claudia!!! It is so good to hear from you. How are you doing? How is your yoga practice?
I wish you all the best from LA, and I will be back in NY for longer periods maybe this spring or summer… and hope to see you at some point!
Lots of love,

This unique topic you reveals here is really a top-notch as well as attractive niche. Interesting approach as well as structure in article. Keep authoring these kinds of beneficial info.
I wonder if this is why so many Cpap users are overweight, because they stop breathing at night..
I wish to point out my affection for your kind-heartedness for those people who have the need for assistance with the concern. Your real dedication to passing the message along became really functional and has in most cases helped guys like me to achieve their objectives. Your new warm and helpful guidelines can mean this much a person like me and somewhat more to my office workers. Best wishes; from everyone of us.
