This is an interesting topic because I’m sure you’ve heard of more and more people having issues with a range of different foods.
Food allergies and sensitivities can wreak havoc on your body. A true food allergy produces a systemic immune response causing a host of symptoms such as digestive upset, hives, swollen airways, or even anaphylaxis.
Allergy VS Intolerance
According to the Mayo Clinic, approximately 6 to 8 percent of kids under age 5 and about 3 to 4 percent of adults suffer from true food allergies. If this number seems low given the number of people you know that suffer after eating certain foods, then you may be making a common misidentification. While only a small percentage of the population has actual food allergies (which can be life threatening), many, many others suffer from food intolerances.
So, what’s the difference? According to Mayo Clinic Asthma and Allergy Specialist James T. C. Li, M.D., Ph.D., eating even trace amounts of a food you are actually allergic to can cause a severe and multi-systemic immune reaction that may include vomiting, cramps, hives, tingling in the throat, and even closure of airways. Eating foods you are intolerant to, on the other hand, causes a less severe reaction, and you have a much higher threshold of the food you can be exposed to. For example, most people are aware of how severe peanut allergies can be. If you’ve ever had a kid in your child’s class with a peanut allergy, your children are asked not to bring any foods containing peanuts, because even trace exposure to the nuts can bring about a severe reaction. A child with a milk intolerance, on the other hand, can probably be exposed to that food and not have problems. They may even be able to ingest it in small amounts with minimal health issues; however, if they consume a substantial amount, then they may exhibit symptoms like stomach or joint pain, mucus buildup, and others.
Intolerance Symptoms
I’ve covered allergy symptoms above, but what about food intolerance? These may be a bit more difficult to figure out and link back to the foods, because may appear to be entirely unrelated to what you eat. In other cases, sensitivity symptoms may appear as soon as you eat the food. Symptoms of food intolerance include:
- Headaches (including migraine)
- Irritability, mood swings, or nervousness
- Digestive upset
- Heartburn
- Depression
- Inflammation
- Mucus and respiratory problems
- Autoimmune disease
- Muscle and joint aches
- Difficulty sleeping
- Exhaustion
- Lack of energy
- Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
- Skin disorders
- Heart palpitation or arrhythmia
These are just a few of the many signs associated with consuming foods to which you have a sensitivity. Over the long-term, these symptoms may worsen. In some cases, food sensitivities can even lead to debilitating illness.
Common Food Allergens
Eight foods or groups of foods cause about 90 percent of all true food allergies. These foods are:
- Dairy products
- Eggs
- Tree nuts (almonds, cashews, pecans, walnuts)
- Peanuts
- Soy
- Wheat
- Shellfish (shrimp, crab, lobster)
- Fish (tuna, salmon, cod, halibut)
If you have an allergy to these foods, you need to avoid them completely. In fact, eating foods that have been processed on equipment that also processes these foods may be enough to trigger an allergic reaction. Because of this, many food labels list the fact that the product contains these foods or has been processed in plants that also process these foods in order to help people avoid allergens. For example, the label may say, “This product is manufactured on equipment that also processes peanuts,” or “Contains the following allergens: milk, soy, wheat.”
Common Foods that Cause Sensitivity
Any of the above ingredients may also cause food sensitivities. Other foods that people are commonly intolerant of contain histamines or amines, which are chemicals that may dilate blood vessels and increase inflammation. Foods that contain these compounds include:
- Alcoholic beverages
- Aged, processed, or smoked meats, fish and cheeses
- Vegetables like tomato, eggplant, and avocado
- Fruits like kiwi, bananas, strawberries, and pineapple
- Vinegars
- Soy sauce
- Cacao
- Coffee and black tea
- Yeast (not nutritional yeast)
- Nuts
Food Additives
Additives in processed foods may also cause sensitivities to the foods that contain them. In some cases, these additives lead to even more health problems, because they are actually neurotoxic and can overexcite brain cells to the point of death. Neurotoxic additives are marked with an asterisk (*).
- Food dyes
- Artificial flavors
- Preservatives (benzoate, nitrate, nitrite)
- MSG* (monosodium glutamate)
- Hydrolyzed vegetable protein*
- Calcium caseinate*
- Aspartame* (NutraSweet)
- Sucralose
- Other artificial sweeteners
- Emulsifiers (like gums and lecithin)
- High-fructose corn syrup and other corn-derived ingredients
Celiac Disease – A Look at Food Intolerance
What happens if you are unaware of intolerance but continue to eat foods containing ingredients to which you are sensitive? A number of conditions are directly related to food intolerance, and can lead to significant ongoing health problems. One such condition directly related to food intolerance is celiac disease.
Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder caused by gluten intolerance. Many foods contain gluten, including those derived from wheat, rye, and barley. When people with celiac disease ingest gluten (or even use products containing gluten on their skin), they trigger an immune response that damages the villi in the small intestine. These villi play an important role in digestion, allowing the body to absorb nutrients from the foods you eat. As they become more damaged by gluten, the villi absorb fewer nutrients, which can lead to a host of problems including malnutrition. Fortunately, people with celiac disease can reverse these symptoms by avoiding gluten altogether and rehabilitating the colon with a healthy diet and probiotics.
Food Sensitivities Can Sabotage You
If you are trying to meet health, beauty, and weight loss goals, then continuing to eat foods to which you are sensitive can sabotage your efforts. When you eat foods to which your body reacts, you may experience higher levels of inflammation, food cravings, and loss of energy among many others. All of these run counter to looking and feeling your best.
Consuming these foods also adds more sludge to your toxic load, gunking up your insides and rendering true health and beauty impossible.
What to Do
Do you suspect you have food sensitivities? The good news is that you can grow healthier by eating a nutritious diet, cleansing, and noting your body’s reaction to certain foods. Here’s how you can beat food sensitivities.
- Eliminate processed foods. Instead, focus on a natural plant-based diet consisting of organic fruits and vegetables, as well as whole, non-gluten grains.
- Drop the dairy. I believe most people are sensitive to dairy products and have difficulty digesting them. Humans were meant to ingest breast milk, not cow’s milk, and only for the first year or two of life. After that, dairy has no place in a human diet. Calcium can be found in other foods. Furthermore, foods such as dairy which have an acid-forming affect actually encourage the leaching of calcium from the body via urinary calcium excretion. Read more on this in The China Study.
- Avoid gluten grains. Instead, eat grains like quinoa, millet, oat groats, and buckwheat.
- Avoid peanuts and cashews. These nuts often cause allergy and sensitivity problems.
- Eliminate tree nuts and then add them back into your diet one at a time to observe your body’s reaction. If you react, remove that nut entirely from your diet.
- Avoid vinegars, except for raw apple cider vinegar.
- Avoid animal proteins. If you do eat animal proteins, opt for minimally processed, local, grass-fed, organically farmed animal products raised without antibiotics or hormones.
- Follow The Beauty Detox Solution. This diet actually eliminates allergens and supports cleansing. Also, the Green Smoothie Diet is a good snack or cleansing diet as needed.
- Support your health habits with probiotics, which can help build beneficial bacteria.
Can you do a post on superfoods please?
Thanks for the information. I’ve got some loved ones with some of these issues. We are working on elimination
I’m so glad you touched on this, I have only a few food intolerances but food allergies have been a big part of my life since my daughter now 3 started showing signs at 3 months old. I adopted so I couldn’t breast feed but I knew something was wrong when she threw up her formula and started getting eczema all over her body. After several doctors just saying she would grow out of it and prescribing steroid creams I knew I had to take action into my own hands. I decided to get her tested for food allergies and she was allergic to nuts, dairy, beef, chicken, eggs, bananas, soy, gluten, sesame, shell fish, cod, salmon, tomato and legumes. She now only eats veggies, grains, rice milk, & fruits. I had been feeling like she wasent getting enough nutrition but after reading your blog I feel better … She actually is on the Beauty detox diet naturally :) thank you sooo much for what you do! you have inspired our whole family!
Wanted to add she’s been eating this way now for 3 years and has beautiful skin , hair and sooo much energy! She dosent ever ask for anything she’s allergic to because all she knows is her diet. If we decide on more children I think I will follow this way of life :)
Kimberly,
I read all your blogsposts and I have to say that you really are so inspiring!! I like that you don’t just tell people to give up dairy products but you give alternatives as well..
My boyfriend and me talked about your blog today and since we are really interested in health and especially healthy food and cosmetics, your blog is the perfect source :) tonight we were talking about food allergies, an hour later I got your newsletter on food allergies :))
All I wanted to say is that I really like what you’re doing, especially the way you give advice (with alternatives and recipes)!!! You’re awesome :)
Best,
Alina
Hey Kim, thanks for this article! As I eliminate more and more from my diet, food allergies do become an increasingly prevalent issue. I have been dairy free for a while now but recently bought a probiotic strand that contained milk and had horrible allergic reactions to it :( bad mistake
I just want to say that I ADORE you and your book and try to follow it as best I can with the exception of grain and fruit consumption (scared to eat either of them at this point).
One question- how do you feel about aloe vera juice especially compared to apple cider vinegar? Both seem to have similar benefits, I was curious as to what you think of them.
Thanks!! Xox
Thanks for this! I was wondering about onion intolerance and if this is common/reversible. I have problems eating onions, but not garlic or scallions. I’ve seen some comments on this type of thing with other people online, but am wondering if there’s anything actually negative about eating them.
Thanks for posting this! I’ve been having a lot of stomach issues for a while and have recently been wondering if I have a gluten allergy or sensitivity. Starting today I’m trying to eat gluten-free and hoping things will get better. This article came at the perfect time! :)
How bad is it or how much will it slow down the detox effect if I have little cheats here and there. Like everyother day I have a little bit of chocolate..or bite of icecream. I have candida so I started out in phase 1, I had already started going smoothies before hand..but cut out the fruit now. I have the oats with chia in the morning, kale salad with avocado, etc. It was bad for two days..my body was literally pouring moucus from every crevice nose, mouth, ..you get it. I never could have imagined I was so full of moucus..it was disgusting, I am so glad I gave up dairy. I love yogurt and ice cream but I don’t want to be that way. Most of the inflammation has gone down, I lost 7lbs..after 2 weeks. I still have the thrush signs no thick white coating but very furry tongue..which i think its actually healing. Is the fruit test the best way to note if the candida is gone..?
Thank you for mention Food Allergies and Food Intolerance .I see Patient with these kind of problems just about every day.
to many people eat processed Foods instedt fresh Foods, homemade meals.
The US Food Chain is so chemical saturated and that has to change.
But you can avoid highly processed Foods and eat healthy but many people are not motivated to do so or they say it’s to expensive.
Thanks for this great info!
Avocado I was told I should eat more of as it is one of the best fats.Currently I am taking a few harsh medications which at this moment I am staying on.I do not absorb essential nutrients, vitamins unless I blend my greens.

also when is the new book out here is australia? xx
Hi Kim,
This is such a great, informative post! I think that food allergies, sensitivities, and intolerances are becoming more and more prevalent with the advent of increasing food processing techniques, so they are confusing to many people. Often they are overlooked as the cause of health problems, so it’s great that you are bringing this subject to light! Thanks, Kim!
As someone who has struggled with food intolerances for a year or two, I can definitely vouch for the accuracy of this article. I do have a question though: Is it possible to become tolerant of something again? I have severe lactose intolerance (now have 0 enzymes to digest it) and gluten intolerance as well, so I have been off of those for a while. However, it hasn’t exactly helped get rid of my symptoms (severely bloated stomach every time I eat anything, no matter what it is or how much of it I am having). After reading your book, I’m wondering if there are any suggestions you have about this. I have been living with a pregnant-looking (it can get as large as third trimester) belly for about 3 years now and the only way to get rid of it is to literally starve myself for a few days in order to let my body empty it. It’s like my stomach literally over-accommodates for everything and doctors are baffled. Anyway, I love your blog and have read your book and it all makes sense! Its just very difficult for me to follow as I am in college and have to eat whatever they have available. I would love it if you had any advice for me, as I am very tired of being plagued with this strange and uncomfortable stomach disorder.
Dear Kimberly,
Thank you for your book and your blog! You have changed my life!! I bought the book last summer and started with GGS and mostly raw food in August. I lost 6 pounds the first month. And then nothing! I have the GGS 6 days a week. A big salad for lunch and vegan food to dinner. But I also eat goat cheese and once a week fresh fish/salmon. No dairy and eggs for 3 years and no meat since I was 19 years old. It’s hard to stop eating cheese… Probiotic salad 4 days a week. Mag07 every evening. Water in the morning. Probiotic tablets. I eat very good but not perfect – yet. But something is still wrong. Can it be food sensitivity? I have been tested with it before. I feel (nearly) perfect and don’t have any pain in the joints now. But I still have flesh on the stomach and the inner part of the legs – symbol for something is still wrong. I can change everything – but only if I know it is the right thing to do. For the moment I’m not sure what to avoid. I have been planing to send you this question for weeks now. Hope you can help me with some advice!
Thank you for everything!
Hi I can’t find magnesium oxygen tablets here in Sydney? No one has heard of them. Any suggestions?
I am wondering the same thing in melbourne. I am taking magnesium in the meantime
Hi Amanda,
in my country they are called Oxyzon. It’s not exactly but nearly the same. We don’t have MagO7 here.
Hey Amanda. I am in Tassie. My naturopath sometimes has Global healing Centre’s brand, I have found this cheapest online from a New Zealand company https://www.livingfoodslifestyle.co.nz/shop/ our dollar makes the price good. I think iherb.com has mag 07! oh ands gaps australia and gpa wholefoods stocks it but more exy!
I got the magnesium oxygen pills. They’re called Oxy-Powder and are made by Global Healing Center. You can find them at oxypowder.com The one week course dissolved my teenage daughter’s mass of stool at the beginning of her colon. She already had 24/7 nausea and these pills made it worse during the treatment because of the high amount of magnesium, but the x-ray afterward showed the mass of stool was gone. The many reviews at Amazon never mentioned feeling worse, so I guess it was because my daughter was already so ill.
Hi Kimberly,
I have all the symptoms of food intolerance, but I also have reactions to some fruits, veggies, and nuts. I believe it’s called ‘oral allergy syndrome.’ Does this mean I should avoid these foods altogether? I thought I read somewhere that it could be related to candida, but I had trouble recently finding any information like that. As an example, I can’t eat fresh bananas, because they cause my throat, mouth, tongue and lips to itch, and cause drainage, sometimes sneezing and give me what feels like indigestion or heartburn. When they’re cooked or I drink them in smoothies, it doesn’t seem to be a problem. Could fruits and veggies be causing me health issues?
Also, should I go see an allergist to be tested for food allergies? My daughter has some issues as well, and I’ve thought about taking her to be tested. I’ve read, though, that some of those allergy tests can come back falsely positive. Is it still a good idea?
Thanks!
Kim,
Do you know about the benefits of activated Charcoal tablets or powder? We always travel with capsules in case we get food poisoning or an upset stomach of any kind. The powder can be made into a poltice using a little ground flax seed and water along with the powder. Charcoal absorbs poisons in the body and has no side effects.
Have enjoyed and benefitted from all your emails. Thanks.
Ann
Hi Kimberly!
How do you feel about quinoa pasta?
Hi Kim,
Thank you for all you do, I love your book! I’ve been following your book for several months and have lost several pounds. I’ve been following you Blossoming Beauty phase but I still have an issue with Candida. I’m 37 years old and had breast cancer so I really want to get healthy. I love the oat groats I eat them everymorning and I add lemon juice and vanilla to it …is that ok? And salad with no dressing and few nuts or quinoa for lunch and usually for dinner large salad with roasted veggies with the vegetable broth. And by the end of the day I’m very bloated. Once a week I do eat a veggie wrap, so that is the only gluten I eat. A few times a week I do eat some gluten free bread.
So my questions are do I need to see a dr about this or just keep doing it?
And I’ve lost weight and I work out with weights but I have more noticeable saddle bags on my thighs and hips. Should I start drinking your protein shake everyday?
I really don’t miss protein and when I do whether it’s rice or hemp protein I tend to feel a little bloated.
Thanks so much for everything!!
Kim,
Also I forgot to ask is drinking barley grass green drink ok?
Thank you
I would love to know that too! :)
Thank you for talking about this topic. I have several food allergies/intolerances and it is wreaking havoc on my life. I am at the point where it doesn’t matter what I eat, I am nausous all the time.
I do have a question, several of your juices contain apples, bananas and pineapple. I am allergic to all three. Can you tell me what a good substitute would be? Peaches, Mangos, Kiwi, Pears?
Thank you so much for you help.
Dear Ms. Snyder,
My mom and I have been following you for a few years now. I am a 21 yr. old female currently in the hospital recovering from bone marrow transplant in order to treat relapsed leukemia. I have not had solid food since the first week in January. I am now very allergic to just about every antibiotic out there and have been suffering from countless side effects from 2 yrs. of chemo and whole body radiation. My plan upon release from the hospital is to begin with green juicing and fruit smoothies. My mom just purchased a Vitamix and a juicer to make this possible. What advice can you give me regarding my situation. I am finding my doctors are not at all helpful in giving me any guidance with nutrition post transplant. I am a huge fan and have great respect for all you’ve done. I hope to be able to visit the Wigmore Institute in Puerto Rico as you have just as soon as the doctor clears me for travel. You have also inspired me to return to school and become a nutritionist and any guidance you can provide would be so very much appreciated. Thank you! — Gia
Hi Kim! You’re amazing and I’m truly grateful for the information you share with everyone. After reading your book and blog you have inspired me to pursue a healthier lifestyle. I bought a Vitamix since you highly recommend it (and I absolutely LOVE it!! Specially for my green smoothies and soups.) I’ve been drinking warm lemon water in the morning, enjoying my GGS for breakfast, drinking rooibos tea daily, and making other changes to my diet… I also recently started taking Dr Ohhira’s probiotics as well as digestive enzymes. I feel a difference in my mood, energy level, and I’m waiting to see results with my skin (I have moderate acne/acne scarring). But I have a few questions:
What D3 and B12 supplements would you reccomend?
I’ve noticed a lot of the D3 supplements were waayy over the RDA. I just wanted to see what you would suggest is best to take.
What is the difference between tamari, nama shoyu, and Braggs liquid aminos?
I want to start making recipes from your book and I’m not sure which one I should purchase or if I should get all of them.
Also, I would be really interested in dry brushing, yoga/meditation posts.
Thank you for all that you do Kim!
Hey Kim!
I just started eating bee pollen after seeing your video about it and reading up on its great benefits.
I used to have seasonal allergies, but since i switched to high raw, 90% vegan diet (some fish) i haven’t had any problems at all.
Sometimes when I eat bee pollen, it produces an allergic reaction… itching in my throat. this really only happens if i eat it as the first thing in my body after the GGS or GGJ.
I’ve read you have to “build up” your tolerance to bee pollen– is this reaction normal? should i just lower the amount i eat until i’m comfortable at that level?
thanks!!
Hi Daisy,
Yes only have 1/4 of a tsp. and see if that still irritates you. If you, perhaps you do have an allergic reaction to it, in which case you should probably avoid it. xx
Thank you so much for this blog!! I’ve always had a horrible dairy intolerance and cut it out of my diet completely about 7 or 8 months ago after reading your book :) I have been drinking the GGS for about 6 months and I LOVE it but I’m also pretty sure that I have a sensitivity to bananas. Do you have any suggestions for a good substitution that would work in the GGS? As always, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!
Rachel
HI Rachel,
You are welcome! Just leave out the banana, it is fine with all the greens and other fruit. xx
I couldn’t agree more. I’ve done blood testing on a huge percent of my patients and have found gluten, dairy, egg and even soy sensitivities in about 90% of my practice that suffers with adhd, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and difficulty losing weight.
I myself had problems for over 20 years, and after finding that gluten and dairy were the underlying cause of most my problems, decided to get into natural health care and functional medicine.
Dr. Olivia Joseph
How do you ask a doctor to test you for food intolerances? My allergy doctor just did the normal ‘scratch test’ for allergies but I suspect I have food intolerances as well.
Thank you so much for adding heart palpitations to your list of symptoms!! I have been having that problem for over a year now after eating large meals or meals that are high in fats and occasionally after eating breads.
I’ve been avoiding these foods and have cut down instances of palpitations but I am wondering where I can learn more about this? I have tried many times to find information online but can only find message boards with anecdotal evidence but no studies or publications.
I would love to learn more about what is happening in my body that causes this.
Thank you so much for spreading the word that you truly are what you eat, love your blog!
Great Morgan!
Apple cider vinegar cured my palpitations. 2 tblspoons in water before bed and in the morning.
Dear Kimberly,
Thank you for a wonderful book. Our whole family enjoys your recipes and all the nutrition advice you share. I send my husband to work each morning with a glowing green smoothie, and I have even made it for our fifteen-year-old daughter’s friends from ballet. They liked it!
We live on the upper west side of NYC. Do you have a good general doctor and naturopath you could recommend? I was just diagnosed with hyperthyroid and would very much like to take care of it naturally.
Thank you for all of your good work. We appreciate you!
Warmly,
Natonya Zalubowski Barchi
This is just a general question regarding food combining and pairing. I have been researching this topic and I have also read your book. In your green smoothie you combine fruits with veggies when you also say fruits should always be eaten alone. My second question is what magnesium oxide supplement you would recommend. I recently bought pills from whole foods. Are these safe to take everyday as I am trying to do everything possible to aid in my digestion. I have also noticed the product colonosan which only ingredient is magnium oxide, directs you to only use it for a 7 day cleanse. would something like this be okay to take everyday? Otherwise what Magnesium oxide supplement would you recommend??
What probiotic brand do you use? I currently use PB 8. I started taking it for IBS.
This really answered my drawback, thank you!
Oh, superb article! No idea how you came up with this report..it’d take me long hours. Well worth it though, I’d suspect. Have you considered selling ads on your blog?
good article, i definitely love this website, go on this
Such a helpful article! I recently discovered my intolerance to Gluten and since eliminating it my life has drastically changed. As a former carb-addict, I thought this was going to be a difficult transition. Surprisingly it hasn’t been difficult at all – perhaps because I feel so amazing!
Hi Kim,
So my husband and I love your book. He follows it to a “T” and feels great. I however suffer from IBS-D. I have morning episodes of diarehha that hit between 1-3 times before I can start my day. My husband thinks I should do the GCS but I don’t think I should due to the morning “bathroom issues” I already suffer. I have changed my diet, food pairing, no meat with lunch, no dairy and gluten free. What are your thoughts and your experience working with people with IBS-D. Thank you.
Thank you so much for giving everyone an extraordinarily special chance to discover important secrets from this web site. It’s always so cool plus jam-packed with amusement for me and my office mates to visit your website at the least thrice a week to read through the newest guides you have got. And definitely, we are usually happy considering the superb methods you serve. Certain 4 areas in this post are honestly the very best we have ever had.
I just finished reading your book. I’m inspired to continue my quest for healthier living. I am gluten-free, dairy-free, and mostly sugar-free and meat-free. My question is regarding food allergies. What do you recommend for someone who is allergic to, and has intolerance’s for, many plants. Eliminating all those greens and veggies leaves me with very few options to eat. I would love to eat avocado. Any recommendations? Should I avoid them? Thanks!
Hi , this is a great article but just wanted to pick up on something, I have had a highly positive allergic RAST test for Milk which along with millk products have been a major craving of mine for years. So I have been ingesting vast quantities of something which my blood has IgE antibodies for- i.e. is a true allergic reaction NOT an intolerance and I am probably not the only one! Poppy
This happened to me exactly!
I had tons of health issues my whole life- depression and anxiety (which was treated by a psychologist with prescription meds), allergies (which were treated with pills, shots 2-4 times a week!, inhalers, nosesprays, Epipen, etc.) horrible fatigue, stomach issues, like diarrhea, or constipation, etc.
I found out I had tons of food intolerances, and once I stopped eating certain foods, ALL my issues cleared up! I was already eating a vegan diet but was tested for lots of things. Not only was I allergic to fish, and nuts (I wasn’t intolerant of dairy and soy, surprisingly), and I also intolerant of TONS of fruits and vegetables!!! Well anyway after about a year of avoiding these foods, I no longer had problems with them!
I wish doctors would have recommended that I changed my diet (which was actually effective) before prescribing all these crazy medications and shots! Because of my experience, I feel that everyone should get tested for food sensitivity- I never suspected I had a food allergy because I had round-the-clock symptoms, not just after meals. Even if someone just has fatigue, it could be caused by this! So easy to improve your health this way.
Thanks for this article, it is validating to see this information, plus I want this info to be available to others so that they can improve their health like I did!
Hello there, You have performed a great job. I’ll definitely digg it and for my part recommend to my friends. I am confident they will be benefited from this web site.
Hi Kimberly! I just finished your book and I loved it :) I am intolerant to soy and im also on Synthroid. some o your recipes contain ingredients that contain soy. What could I substitute it with?
Sometimes, I enjoy the feeling of going into shock. It’s like I am drunk or stoned so I tend to eat these foods because It’s fun.
I had several symptoms that cleared up within 2 days of removing Allergen 3 foods from my diet. Brain fog, poor concentration, fatigue, flatulence, body odour. I also have chronic acne (the cause is chronic inflammation) which I suspect will clear up thanks to this and the findings of the other tests I’m doing. (I’m 35 now and have had acne since I was 15). I didn’t expect I had food allergies but I saw an Integrative doctor (Dr Anne Small in Moonee Ponds in Melbourne, Australia). I highly recommend her- best doctor I’ve ever come across. There are other doctors in her practice that are Integrative GPs as well. They spend a decent amount of time with you, they are wholistic and because they are doctors they have good medical knowledge and are much more informed than Naturopaths. She sent me to do several tests and the food allergy test was one if them. I had other symptoms as well but there’s too much to write about. My liver looks like its toxed up and I have adrenal fatigue and chronic inflammation (visible in the acne). Essentially the symptoms I have your average person would just assume was normal but I don’t believe I should feel like this at 35. I haven’t been for my follow up appointment but I received the allergy test results in the mail so I have stopped eating those foods to start with. I will get the results of the other tests at my follow up appointment in two weeks. I was allergic to a minimum of 30% of what I was eating per day (46 foods all up but about 5 foods I was eating more often- dairy, eggs, oats, almonds, peanuts and peppermint). The allergy type I am talking about is called Allergen 3 which doesn’t produce an immediate classic allergy reaction like swelling but affects your system later and is often hard to put your finger on because of the delayed reaction. The people that did the test for me are called Imupro and I did the full 270 foods test for $650. It is worth it. I’m now 35 and I can’t think of when I last felt this good. Plus I couldn’t believe I felt so good so quickly. I’m super excited. I would see an Integrative doctor, tell them your symptoms and if they recommend it get the allergy test. Once you have the test you can see what you’re allergic to rather than stuffing around with eliminating foods. There is a cheaper test for 100 foods for around $300 you can try as well.
Hi, sorry- would prefer to change my name so my friends dont recognise my post. Can you please remove my other post and use this one instead (minus this note if course)

Hi…
I am in CA and have gone thru 3 Hollistic Drs and Md’s for Endoscopy/Colonsocpy, tummy xrays, etc.. Due to my severe Adrenal Fatigue for almost 1year, bloating, constipation and stomache distencia; have been on a 10mnth almost raw diet. Avoiding all Sugar, Soy, Wheat, Gluten, Corn, Dairy and Sugar; tummy was 90 percent better but Adrenal Fatigue is still there, really bad and I starrted eating dried fruits and low glycemic fruits and over did it and having stomache bloating/distencia again. Can anyone help??? The only diag was Wheat/Gluten intolerance from the holistic Dr and the Endoscopy/Colonoscopy/tummy xrays showed nothing!!! I need answers, cant deal with the fatigue or now bloating again!!!
Have you removed casein and whey? don’t know if I spelt that right, but they are dairy products
Julie,
You need to try the low-fodmap diet….on top of staying away from eggs, soy, tree nuts, wheat, fish, shellfish & milk this diet I mention previously is strict too…I went to the best hospital in Dallas called UT Southwestern; they specialize in liver & GI diseases…the six elimination diet you are on is to repair your esophagus and the low-fodmap diet helps with ur digestive tract…you can’t have the following: Apple, mango, nashi, pear, tinned fruit in natural juice, watermelon, fructose, high fructose corn syrup, DRIED FRUIT, milk from cows, goats, or sheep, ice cream, yoghurt, asparagus, beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, eggplant, garlic, onions, baked beans, chickpeas, kidney beans, actually NO BEANS!! NO apricot, avacado, blackberry, cherry, lychee, plum, peach, prunes, cauliflower, green bell pepper, mushrooms, sweet corn, and none of these sweeteners: sorbitol, mannitol, isomalt, maltitol & xylitol…I’m going through the samething as you…yes, its sucks that there’s not much to eat but there is some we can…do ur research on the low-fodmap diet…get the list u can eat…this will REALLY help you!! Like I said I went to the best of the best hospital; they know their stuff…Im doing great!!! I was diagnosed last week so I hope & pray it helps you!
Hi – have you looked into the MTHFR Gene mutation? You are probably one of the 30percent of people who have this – you’ll be amazed. I had all your symptoms, found out I had it and it was easily solved – as it will be for you! Kind Regards, Barbara
What was your solution? I have all of the symptoms and have the MTHFR defect but can’t figure out how to make it better.
Wow, that is great. I have just come back from the allergist who told me that I was not allergic to dairy. But I know in my heart I had to cure myself from a few years of symptoms that could have cost me me job and made it hard for me to socialize. I believe mine was caused by eating greek yogurt, thinking it was the be all to end all! I don’t care what he says, I’m better and I’m staying that way. Wish I had have known about the extensive allergy testing you had. As someone who has felt the way you did, I totally understand how life changing this can be.
An allergist/immunologist can provide expert medical advice and treatment in the evaluation and management of people with allergic diseases, asthma and immune problems (see above for types of patients seen). This includes the ability to perform and interpret allergy testing, expertise in treating complex allergic diseases and asthma, as well as the ability to prescribe allergen immunotherapy (allergy shots).
Shots might seem like an unusual way to treat allergies, but they’re effective at decreasing sensitivity to triggers. The substances in the shots are chosen according to the allergens identified from a person’s medical history and by the allergist during the initial testing. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) oversees the standards used in preparing the materials for allergy shots given in the United States.
I did immunotherapy for my allergies to dust mites and various pollens about 6 years ago. Recently had a RAST test re-done. Original tests had a scores between 5-6. This time dust mites was 0.3 and pollen 2.4. Mold still remains high at 3.7 but I never had treatment for that, though that has decreased a little as well.
I had the RAST test also. I tested positive to the entire thing. All of the alllergins. My doctor as shocked
Wow, can you really believe this is true?
With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright violation?
My website has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either written myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my authorization. Do you know any ways to help protect against content from being stolen? I’d truly appreciate it.
If a given person has multiple food allergies and after he discovers them , stops eating all of them . Will he recover from the allergies after some years ?… or will it be malnutrition? . Guys need help here !!
Keep on writing because this is the kind of stuff we all need
What do you suggest for people who appear to have food intolerances to basically everything? I cut out gluten, and that worked for about a year. Then I had to cut out dairy, then soy, then vegetables. I’m now only able to eat boiled chicken/chicken broth (homemade from a chicken), ghee, and eggs (though the eggs have been giving me trouble lately).
I am so hungry, yet I feel better when I don’t eat. I have all of the symptoms listed in the article and this is ruining my ability to function or live “normally”.
After going through IgG testing, I had a reaction to apples. Would I still be able to use apple cider vinegar?

Hi William and thanks for checking out my blog about food allergies and so sorry to hear about the food issues your wife is having. Sounds like you’ve been seeing many doctors with little success. While I do not make recommendations on doctors, I do encourage you to reach out to holistic practices to see if this avenue will be more successful. The Beauty Detox Solution focuses on getting rid of toxins so that our bodies are better able to assimilate and break down our food choices. It takes time to remove unwanted toxins but worth the effort. See what you can find with regards to a more natural healing process with holistic practices and little by little you should see improvements. Let me know her progress once you have incorporated their advice and perhaps then, she’ll be able to include the Beauty Detox into her lifestyle. Sending lots of love to your both! ;)
