About Chuck Casano

A native to Long Island, New York, Chuck Casano completed his Bachelor’s degree at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, with a double major in communications and Spanish. He implemented the latter earning his MBA at IE business school in Madrid, and subsequently working for an NGO in Nicaragua, where he fatefully discovered the Pitaya fruit. Sensing opportunity, Chuck founded Pitaya Plus with co-founder Ben Hiddlestone as a conduit to bring a healthy, wholesome product to the United States and fill a niche within the burgeoning health food market.

Beyond this, Chuck saw an opportunity to create a sustainable business benefiting the supply chain, from farmer to consumer. By opening the U.S. market to local farmers in Nicaragua and worked to create jobs and teach sustainable farming practices in the developing country. Chuck’s passion for Pitaya goes beyond the fruit itself, giving him a venue in which to make a positive impact on the communities, and further develop the local community relationships he’s cultivated.

About Ben Hiddlestone

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Ben Hiddlestone completed his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design at Newcastle University in Australia. He first discovered the pitaya fruit on a road trip from San Francisco to Panama in 2005, and in 2009, was re-introduced to the fruit by long-time friend Chuck Casano.

The development of their company has given Ben the opportunity to produce something that is both sustainable for consumers, but also healthy, organic, and non-GMO verified with a single ingredient. Beyond the company’s Western influence. They have created opportunities to give back to developing countries’ local communities, stimulating their economies with job creation and community re-building.
