Today I want to talk about some tips for healthy snacking. And how we can maximize our snacks, feel great and enjoy ourselves but not take our energy. Especially because when we are snacking it is still in the middle of the day. We want to have a lot of energy for our work, for our kids, for our free time, our family. So proper snacking is really important.
I feel that smoothies are one of the best things to snack on in the afternoon. We don’t usually have time to sit down and eat and chew properly. So smoothies are a great snack. They offer you a lot of nutrients. They fill you with fiber, minerals, enzymes, vitamins and more.
Even if you’ve already had a GGS in the morning, you can always have more in the afternoon if you are having it on an empty stomach. Or you can have a Power Protein Smoothie. We also have tons of other smoothie recipes on my website.
Note: Make sure you don’t have a pollen allergy before consuming
Sometimes if I just need a little bit of energy to get me through I just take a little bit of bee pollen and chew it up really well. It’s so nutritionally complete. It has protein, enzymes and tons of minerals. So bee pollen is a great snack to have on hand.
We want to make sure that we really keep our energy up in the afternoon. I highly suggest you take digestive enzymes before you snack, with water. How we digest has such a big impact on our energy, the quality of our skin, how quickly we age. Because we can get really depleted if we are just exhausting our body and digesting all the time, using up our own body stores of enzymes.
So I recommend taking digestive enzymes before you eat, including before you snack, so you can keep your digestion up and energy up much higher.
I like hummus a lot. Sometimes I like to eat something with a crunch so a great snack in the afternoon is having some hummus with celery sticks or cucumbers. Really hummus is fantastic with whatever veggies you have on hand.
I like to have kale chips on hand as well. Today I have the Zesty Nacho flavor. It’s vegan but still gives me a taste that I am munching on some cheesy flavor chips.
And of course, I always like to have some dark chocolate around to snack on. I like to have anything from 72% and up cocoa. I always make sure it is dairy free. The darker the better!
Another great idea I want to suggest is to make chia pudding. You can just soak your chia seeds overnight in water so you have an easy snack ready to go. When you are ready to eat it, you can either add some vanilla extract or cocoa. You can add some shaved coconut on top or dark chocolate bits to really flavor it up. Chia seed pudding is a great snack that will help you stabilize your blood sugar.
