The wind is starting to pick up and we’re coming into the full swing of fall and winter. It’s a really important time to shift some practices and to really take care of yourself during this time. So, I’m going to give you some healthy habits for fall that you can incorporate into your life to help you feel your best.
My Favorite Healthy Habits for Fall …
#1. Eat Grounding Foods
The first tip I have for you is to incorporate more grounding foods into your day. There’s so much wind during this time of year. And there’s a lot of upward moving energy, as they would say in Aryuveda, a lot of space and air energy.
We want to bring in the grounding elements to help us stay warm and centered. These foods help us feel present in our bodies, protected and fortified.
So, this is the time to enjoy soups, stews and lentil dishes like kitcheree. Quinoa, stir fry’s, some seeds and nuts and really all plant-based warm meals are good to enjoy during the fall and winter. This is the time to bring that in.
I’m a huge fan of one pot cooking so I’ve been making kitcheree all the time again now that we’re coming into Fall. I would really encourage you to check that out as well.
#2. Source out Seasonal Produce
This is also the time to incorporate more of the fall seasonal veggies just to keep really in tune with the environment. So, check out what’s growing, what’s being sold at the farmer’s market in your area.
The more we eat in tune with the seasons, the better our bodies fortify and integrate with the elements around us. Eating seasonally keeps us strong and it keeps us feeling really healthy and connected.
#3. Sip on Hydrating Elixirs & Teas
What else are some healthy habits for fall that I can recommend for you? Well Beauties, my third tip is to sip on hydrating, grounding elixirs and teas. I’ve been having a lot of golden milk myself.
There are different recipes we have on the website. Even just warming some almond milk, coconut milk or hemp milk, adding in turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, really any sort of warming spices like that is going to feel really nice and nourishing.
Also, this is a time for having holy basil, known as tulsi tea. Anything that feels grounding and de-stressing like holy basil is nourishing at this time. Because the swirl of wind and Vata energy can actually lead to more stress. So we want to have those really nourishing teas.
#4. Nourish Your Digestion
Another healthy habit for fall that I must share is that we also want to make sure that we are really nourishing our digestion.
Aryuveda says when there’s a lot of Vata it often leads to constipation. Believe it or not, constipation is a very common thing in the Fall. With the stress, and with everything going on, we start to eat heavier foods.
So this is a great time to make sure you’re still incorporating Detoxy, which is our supplement.
Detoxy is not a laxative. It’s not habit forming but it keeps everything moving through. It keeps stagnation from happening. What we are taking out of our bodies, not just what we’re putting in, is just as important. So this is a really, really fantastic time for Detoxy.
#5. Give Your Skin Lots of Love
Now, as we go into Fall, let’s not forget about our largest organ, which is our skin. It’s really important to give our skin lots of love. To nourish my skin, I like to practice a self-oil massage, called Abhyanga. This is something I talk about in my book, Radical Beauty. If you are doing a self-oil massage, now is the time to switch over to sesame oil from coconut oil, which is warming.
It’s also really important to use the right moisturizers on our skin and our face. We want to prevent chapping and to prevent our skin’s moisture levels from getting depleted. Things like argon oil and black sea oil do wonders on your skin all year long. Also having plant stem cells in your skincare is so key!
Have you heard the exciting news Beauties!?! For over a year I have been formulating a skin care line just for you and now you can finally check it out!
I’m really passionate about skin care! And I’m so excited to share it with you. You can check it out on the waiting list on our website here.
We have the most amazing moisturizers, serums, cleansers, eye cream and so on. So, please check it out.
#6. Take Care of Your Self Mentally, Emotionally & Spiritually
And lastly, the more I go along this journey the more I realize it’s not just about what we eat and what we’re doing physically. But really taking care of our hearts, of our emotions, of our self spiritually, is what’s important.
Everything affects everything else. The gut-brain access isn’t just going up from the gut, it’s going down from the brain into the whole body.
If you haven’t yet checked out a very exciting new offering I’ve created to help you take care of yourself mentally, emotionally and spiritually let me share it with you now. It’s our Feel Good Circle.
In our Feel Good Circle, we talk about monthly themes like living courageously and tapping into inner peace. You receive audio videos each month. There’s also journal prompts to help you introspect. In the Feel Good Circle, we come together in community and talk about our deeper things beyond food.
We also offer a private Facebook group that you can connect with others in the circle and really explore within yourself.
For a very low entry, only $14.00 a month to join, I am so grateful to be able to offer this to you. Something that’s been a huge part of my life, is healing these beliefs and ideas. They help me heal body shame, and help me feel just a lot happier and a lot lighter day to day.
Even if we eat really well Beauties, exploring these other parts of ourselves are ways to really support that peace and joy which I do believe is our birth rite.
So, I hope these healthy habits for fall are helpful to you. Whether you explore one or all of them, I hope you find something that resonates with you.
Sending you so much love Beauty. I will see you back here very soon.
Till then take care and lots of love.
