Today we are focusing on my top tips to avoid bloating. We will cover everything from our perspective of the Four Cornerstones – Food, Body, Emotional-Wellbeing and Spiritual Growth.

Kimberly: Hey Beauties. Welcome back to our Thursday Q&A podcast, where our topic today is Best Of: Beating Bloating. This is a huge topic. We get tons of questions around bloating. As someone that has suffered from bloating myself I love to share the ways, the tips, the tools and strategies for getting past it, because it’s so uncomfortable. It really does affect our energy and our self-esteem. I’d love to also share that I really truly believe it’s not just about the food that we’re eating, but a lot to do with our emotional space, because the minds and the body are so interconnected that we know when we’re holding on in one part of our lives or in our energy, it affects other parts, including our physical bodies. So no one wants to be bloated. We know it’s July, it’s summertime, and this is a very timely topic.

Kimberly: As always, Katelyn is here with me today to help us with this best of series. This is going to be an amazing show and especially useful if you’re feeling bloated in any way. Question 1: I have some questions with gas and bloating. I’ve switched my diet to be plant-based and I’m drinking the Glowing Green Smoothie, but it hasn’t helped yet. I also take your supplements, but not consistently. Do you have any suggestions for me?
Katelyn: Okay. So this first one is from Nevine and she lives in Fremont, Chicago. And her question is, I have some questions with gas and bloating. I’ve switched my diet to be plant-based and I’m drinking the Glowing Green Smoothie, but it hasn’t helped yet. I also take your supplements, but not consistently. Do you have any suggestions for me?
Kimberly: Hi, Nevine thank you so much for your question and for being in our community. First of all, we appreciate you so much. I will say that switching to a plant-based diet from, let’s say a different kind of diet that has less fiber, initially there can be more gas and bloating. Fiber does that, it absorbs a lot of water. It’s a different way of feeling full, but we really need to take measures to help our system adjust to this new way of eating. So, first of all, I will say, please take the supplements consistently. This is absolutely key to ease the transition through, especially in this particular case with what you’re asking about I would say Detoxy is really important.
Kimberly: So Detoxy is a supplement that we take in the evenings. It is oxygen-based. It is not a laxative. It is not habit forming. And I always say, K, it’s not just what we’re putting in, but what we’re taking out. And if we’re switching our diet, but our body hasn’t quite caught up yet, we’re in transition, so there’s a lot of old matter in there and we’re just not flushing things through. Excuse me, I get so excited. I’m like, ah, then our bodies are going to hold onto a lot. This is where we really need to support our bodies. This is where Detoxy helps, that oxygen. We want greater bowel movements. We want to be releasing more each and every day. And at the same time we’re taking the SBO Probiotics. So we’re recalibrating our gut flora.
Kimberly: And when you do these two things regularly, and then the third thing that, again, we don’t advocate a lot of supplements, but the three main ones that I do all focus on digestion. And the third is the Digestive Enzymes, which works on the food. And that helps to break it down faster. And the digestive enzymes, we have actually helped to break down the fiber for plant based diets in addition to fat protein and starch. So it’s able to get through your system and can help decrease bloating. So that’s the first thing is get on these supplements and help … Because that’s what the supplements are. They’re supplementing our lifestyle to give your body that support.
Kimberly: And, in a perfect world, we may not eat anything. But in a perfect world, the soil would be pristine. We’d be eating right from the garden-
Katelyn: Didn’t have processed foods.
Kimberly: Exactly. We wouldn’t have all this stress. We wouldn’t, it’s just not the world we live in. So the supplements are really, really important. I would say that’s the number one thing, because it does take time for your body to transition to this much fiber. Some other little tips are to make sure you’re increasing your water intake, because again, fiber takes so much water to process and flow through. I would make sure that you are chewing your Glowing Green Smoothie® well, you’re chewing your food, just to make sure it’s getting through your system efficiently. I would also make sure that you are cooking some of your food, not having all raw veggies. In the beginning, when you’re transitioning to this much fiber, some cooked veggies will help as well.
Katelyn: And I can say, you’re not alone, Nevine. I went through when I switched to a plant-based diet, being bloated too. And it’s just a phase of just adjusting. And even when I go back to not eating so good sometimes and go back, I experience it again. So I agree, just keeping consistent with the supplements and then the water, everything Kim just mentioned, but it does happen to everybody, so.
Kimberly: Yeah, and I find, K, the times when I’m really bloated, there is a correlation with not going to the bathroom enough. Because what happens is everything gets trapped in there, it’s fermenting and putrefying and gases are released. I mean, it is waste matter, and it is not just what we are eating. To me, I focus a lot on releasing it. I want to say more than what I’m putting in, but I mean, I talk about this so much, Kate. I’m not sure maybe you do … We ought to hear it a lot. I had to hear it a lot before it really clicked. Releasing is as important as what we’re putting in. It’s like we put so much focus on the antioxidants and the micronutrients, all this stuff, and that’s amazing and fantastic. But if things are just building up in our body, space is being reduced. There’s less nutrient flow. There’s less oxygen that circulates. I mean, it’s just going to be almost impossible to get rid of bloating.
Katelyn: No, it’s true, [crosstalk 00:07:13] most people don’t even think about poop. I never thought about poop before I got into your book series years ago. I never thought about it as an element of health or losing weight. It’s just something I felt uncomfortable with. So I think a lot of the community and people, it’s nice to just be able to talk about it openly and know it’s part of, it’s interconnected with our health, so.
Kimberly: Yes, and even you have people say to me all the time will I go to the bathroom? And it’s like, most of the time, never near as much as it should be coming out. I mean, it’s quite astounding what actually could be coming out every day, because it’s not just what we’re eating, but it’s the overturn of all these cells and the bacteria in the body. And so there’s actually a lot more to be released in there. I used to think, “Wow, not as much would come out of me because I’m not that big a person and my mid section is pretty small,” but when I started getting into flow, you could see, wow, I was releasing just a fraction of what could be released every day. That made a big difference for me. I’ll say it one more time, Detoxy, even on irregularly makes a huge difference.

Kimberly: Autumn, thank you so much for your question. I think that this is a big one, cravings, fatty foods, sugar. The foods that are making us bloated are related to cravings, because of course the foods are, but why are we craving the foods? If we take a step back, that’s really important to understand. My third book, which is called Beauty Detox Power, took a deep dive on this. And again, whatever I’m writing about is something I’m really trying to heal or figure out myself as someone that has had crazy chip cravings and pretzel cravings and crunchy cravings my whole life, it was giving me something, it was helping me release tension. So as I write about it in that book with the top nine cravings, fatty foods is very stabilizing.
Kimberly: Fat is stabilizing. Fat is twice the caloric amount of protein or carbs per gram. It’s very, very dense. So when we have fatty food, it grounds us in our body. It grounds us through whirlwinds and stressful times and times where we feel like so much is out of our control. Fat is stabilizing. There’s fat in the myelin sheaths that line our nervous system. Fat feels protective. So it’s very, very common to actually crave fatty foods. Sometimes people say, “Oh, it’s the sugar.” But when they’re craving ice cream, there’s that fatty component as well. Potato chips with that oil, that fat is actually very, very grounding.
Kimberly: So I will say that it’s about looking into why your why. What is feeling unstable in your life and how do we ground that? So I love that you’re meditating. You might want to also incorporate journaling and feeling how what’s come up that day earlier in that moment, when you are craving the fatty foods. Is it feeling out of control at work? Is it feeling out of control with your relationships? There could be conversations that need to be had, steps that need to be taken, organizing your work schedule, or perhaps getting out of a toxic relationship. Or be more proactive and seeking more friendships through a center or a class or a yoga studio or something where you’re more in alignment with like-minded people.
Kimberly: So I think it’s really important to realize that fat has so much about stability. And we can feel stable within ourselves. We can feel stable without food. We’re meant to, we’re meant to feel stable and grounded when we connect with ourselves, when we are in community. Here the Solluna Circle could be really helpful as well, Autumn, just because it gives that community where we can bounce things off each other and hold space for each other and have space held for us.
Kimberly: So I think it’s really important to dive deeper. If you want to have more information, check out Beauty Detox Power, there’s a whole … Big part of the book is about these cravings. But in the meantime, keeping healthy fatty food around, like avocados, making some open-face beauty avocado sandwich, piece of gluten free bread, or even just some almond butter on some celery sticks, Chia Seed Pudding. Keeping healthy fats around, because it’s not an immediate fix. You may want fatty foods when you’re feeling unstable for a while. I still had chips for a while, but I started pairing it down. I started adding in crunchy veggies instead. So there’s a transition moment, but really understanding the root of the cravings is fundamental as well.
Katelyn: Yeah. A little light bulbs were going off in my head when you were talking, because when I get stressed or feel unstable, I’ll eat a lot of nuts. And that heaviness from the nuts, I didn’t really even put two and two together that it would be stabilizing. So that’s really interesting to kind of thinking about the why I think can help people be motivated to make those changes. Because we’re more conscious of why we’re doing something.
Kimberly: Beautiful. Exactly. It’s all related. And the more we introspect and open up, it’s like layers of an onion that are just peeling open and open. The more we understand more about ourselves and can connect on a much deeper level.

Kimberly: All right, Beauties, we’re back from the break, and we have a few more questions for you all to share around this important topic of beating bloating.
Question 3: Is it healthy for my emotional and spiritual wellbeing to do a cleanse every few months? If yes, where do you suggest I begin
Katelyn: Beth’s question from Anderson, South Carolina, we’ll dig into another layer of that onion. And she’s asking, is it healthy for my emotional and spiritual wellbeing to do a cleanse every few months? If yes, where do you suggest I begin?
Kimberly: So, Beth, I think this is a really wonderful question. Thank you for bringing it up. I think that here’s my perspective of cleansing and I’ve always shared this. I think ongoing cleansing is essential to energy, beauty, wellness, vitality, feeling good. We do a little bit every single day to benefit our body and we get huge dividends. So every day our body’s already detoxing. We are letting out toxins through our skin, through our lungs, through the breath, through our colon, through our bowels or kidneys or urine. It’s always coming out of us, but we also live in a toxic world. We also donate perfectly. We also have a lot of chemicals and products and air pollution. So every day ongoing cleansing as I spoke about earlier, especially through Detoxy and releasing more, I think is the way to go. I take Detoxy three to five times a week, every day when I’m traveling just for that ongoing maintenance.
Kimberly: And it’s often these small little steps that make the biggest difference, versus being extreme and just doing something once in a while. I think periodically doing some kind of juice and smoothie cleanse, we used to offer some of my other juice bar, Glow Bio. Now we have our juice bar at the Four Seasons. By the way, if you’re in LA, come visit us. And we do have programs, especially associated with the spa. But you know, I don’t necessarily think it needs to be a schedule like, “Every few months I have to do this hardcore cleanse.” If you are doing the ongoing cleansing along the way as I do, sometimes you may feel intuitively, all right, I’m going to do a cleanse, like a more serious cleanse to release. I’ve been going through something, I’m really heavy all winter. I want to do four days here, whatever it is.
Kimberly: So, that may come. But again, I think the ongoing cleansing is really where I am at in my perspective, that’s where the difference is to be made. So make sure you’re taking Detoxy, make sure you’re drinking hot water with lemon every day. You know, as I mentioned, the other supplements, we don’t have a lot of supplements, we really have three, but they really work and they really make a difference. Kimberly: Wow, this question, Denise, thank you so much for your question for being in the community. I love you so much. I’m just carrying this. And first of all, what I hear is you’ve lost 15 pounds and you have more to go, but can we just pause and say, amazing, great. You’re doing amazing.
Kimberly: I mean, wow. And you’re here in the community, so I assume that you’ve done it in a healthy way with whole foods, lots of plant-based foods. And that is amazing. All the tips Denise that we said earlier, I’m not going to say them all again, but try to … Think about incorporating ginger on some of these foods. Definitely stay on your SBO Probiotics, take the Digestive Enzymes and take your Detoxy. Those three supplements are like this magic trifecta, and I’ve always stood by them. Katelyn: … not only as women, but just when you’re on a journey. And like you said, it just, sometimes you forget where you came from. So I think you said that so beautifully and that’s for Denise and anybody who’s listening who is going through something similar, we hope you feel supported and we’re here for you.
