The Savvy Boss with Kimberly Snyder, Founder of Solluna

The Savvy Boss is a column in partnership with BossTalks where we sit down for a morning coffee chat with some of the savviest lady bosses from around the globe.

We all know that whenever we set a resolution on January 1st barely anyone sticks to it.  We say we are going to create a morning routine for a better life, go on a diet, exercise more and nine times out of ten, we don’t stick to them.

This is your wake up call to stick to any and all of your resolutions, especially those that have to do with our health.

We sat down with Kimberly Snyder, Spiritual and Meditation teacher and author to learn best practices on managing our own holistic journey.

Can you share a bit about your background and why you wanted to start Solluna?

I started as a nutritionist and holistic wellness expert, and this then led to me writing books (there’s 6 so far and 2 more in the works!). I wanted a space where I could design and offer the products around my 4 Cornerstones for True Well-being: Food, Body, Emotional Well-being and Spiritual Growth, that honored this holistic approach that I believe helps people the most.

From gut health products, to our Practical Enlightenment Meditation, our health weight-loss and yoga courses, powerful, non-toxic skincare, our Feel Good Podcast and many other offerings, I am so grateful for Solluna to be a space for me to create my service to the world.

Did you have any mentors? Do you believe they are important when starting a business or in the business world?

I think inspiration is great, and mentors don’t have to be in the same business or field as you. I look up to many people, as diverse as the great yoga guru Parmahansa Yogananda and business owners like Sarah Blakely. For me it’s more of a way of being, a way that someone conducts themselves, versus trying to do things exactly the same way, because I believe we all are unique, and that applies to our business path of success as well.

What are the biggest challenges you have had to overcome thus far in your journey?

The biggest challenge to overcome is myself. You are the biggest challenge to yourself also! It truly is the fear and the self-doubt and the old wounds that we don’t look at or heal that clouds our perspective and holds us back.

The good news is that the power is within, and so we have the power to truly shift things, once we have the courage and intention to do so.

What’s one thing you’ve done (good or bad) in your life where you look back and say, “I can’t believe I actually did that?

There are many things! I think we all have self-doubt to overcome. One is that I was so focused on creating my dream of being a published author, but then when I became a New York Timesbestseller for the first time with my second book, The Beauty Detox Foods, I was like, “Wow! Dreams do happen.”

What entrepreneurial hacks have you developed to stay focused and productive in your day-to-day?

I always start the day with meditation. I won’t sit down to my computer until I have done so, because it makes an enormous difference not only in my focus and productivity, but also in the level of creative ideas and solutions arising from my intuition.

I also start my day with the Glowing Green Smoothie, which gives me tons of energy and clarity. It’s really important we incorporate a holistic approach, that we acknowledge and honor that we are whole beings, with physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects, and they are all interrelated.

I never multi-task, because I feel it lessens the quality of all projects. Instead I make a list of focuses, but I finish one project before jumping into a new one.

What are three tips you can give to someone who wants to start a business?

Be sure your idea(s) benefits all, that it is truly win-win. If it’s selfish or small-minded or exploitative, it limits its expansion.

On a practical note, be sure to use a good lawyer and get all your legal contracts properly zipped up. This is one thing you can’t go back on!

Thirdly, believe in yourself and stay clear and focused, but also don’t be so closed or fearful or so rigid that you don’t pivot. Things continue to unfold and adapt, so it’s important to stay open.

How do you define success?

Inner peace, joy and love being present in your life, and living your purpose. Your purpose is the combination of your unique talents and gifts, filtered through how you can support others with them.

What is your definition of a Savvy Boss?

A leader who is as strong as he or she or they are compassionate, heart-centered, intuitive, discerning and calm, and who is co-creating services and products that are helping others.
