Beauty Greens: Rainbow Chard
Well first things first…have you ever wondered what the difference is between Rainbow chard and Swiss chard? You will be happy to know that Swiss chard and Rainbow chard have an identical taste, are similar in nutrition, and are grown in the same way.
The only real difference between Swiss chard and Rainbow chard is their beautiful color that will brighten up any plate- it will be hard for anyone to turn down this beauty salad! In addition…
Rainbow chard is an excellent source of:
Vitamins A, C, and K
Other essential vitamins and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, and copper
A good source of magnesium, potassium, and iron
Provides many forms of polyphenol, betalain and carotenoid antioxidants (powerful at fighting free radical damage and inflammation)
Helps the blood sugar-regulating system within the body, aiding in the slow release of glucose (sugar) into the blood stream
Want strong, supple, shiny, healthy hair? Swiss chard is loaded with biotin (an organic compound that creates a direct connection to healthy hair).
Including biotin-rich foods (like chard), which are in a complete nutritional package, is necessary in order to stimulate follicles and increase texture and luster.
In addition, the vitamin A and C we listed above, contributes to the hair follicles that play an important role in the formation of sebum—adding to the suppleness of your hair.
And what about our skin? While real beauty is about your total energy that you project into the world, we all can’t help but be concerned about our skin, which is what we see in the mirror day in and day out.
Dark leafy greens have a positive effect on skin, due to its concentration of potassium, beta-carotene, fiber, and other vital nutrients. The antioxidants too, will help in repairing and renewing skin cells—giving you younger looking, fresher looking, glowing skin.
Swiss chard can even be grown in a range of soils and require very little light and water. Despite all of this, chard still provides such high amount of nutrients that it’s highly prized and is among the first crops being grown in planetary space stations for astronauts.
One reason it was chosen was due to its extremely valuable nutrient profile and ease of being harvested . Pretty cool, huh?! I’d say it’s out of this world! ????
I love chard for its versatility—being eaten raw in salads, braised, added to soups, stews, and YES, even smoothies.
Although Swiss chard is available throughout the year, its peak season runs from June through August. So let’s do it Beauties! It’s time to give our salads- and ourselves- a color, nutrient and beauty boost!
Layer the veggies over the rainbow chard.
Mix all sauce ingredients in food processor or high speed blender.
Earthing time is a priority on the weekends!! Even if it’s cold where you are, can you go for little walks outside, or find a sun-mimicking lamp?! You’ll feel better if you can keep your connection to nature. xo
