Welcome to the magic! Though simple, the Glowing Green Smoothie ® (GGS) recipe is one of THE most potent health & beauty elixirs on the planet. Start making it and you will get hooked on your sustained energy high, glowing skin, and increased overall health and vitality.
In fact, a serving of the GGS contains over 3 cups of dark leafy green vegetables, which (unfortunately :( ) is way more than lots of people get in a whole week!
The GGS Is packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber, high quality amino acids (which build protein), and countless other phytonutrients that work synergistically to prevent and repair damage in your body and boost rejuvenation. So you look and feel your most amazing!
Blending helps your body absorb the maximum amount of nutrition from your greens. I still also recommend chewing your GGS versus chugging it, to prevent bloating, and if you have compromised digestion, taking digestive enzymes right before drinking it (and your other meals , as I do, which is an important way to get the most nutrition out of your food and reduce bloating).
A general serving size of the Glowing Green Smoothie® is 16-24 ounces. A Vitamix blender is definitely recommended to make this smoothie, so that it’s smooth, silky, and delicious in only a few minutes of prep time and cleanup.
The advantage of making a big batch like the full recipe below is time and convenience. Unlike juice, the Glowing Green Smoothie ® will keep in your refrigerator, as long as it’s covered, for about two and a half days. You can share it with your family or roommates, or have it yourself over that time period!
Um…I Don’t Have Time to Blend Every Day!
Choose one designated blending day, play some happy tune, and just go for it! Batch blending enough for the week. Keep 2-3 days’ worth in the fridge and freeze portion sizes of the rest to thaw out the night before.
Are Juices and Smoothies the Same Thing?!
A lil’ pet peeve of mine is when people refer to our beloved GGS as a juice. :) It. Is. A. Smoothie!! What’s the diff?!
The difference is the fiber.
Here’s one of the biggest healthy and beauty secrets I know: it’s not just what you take in your body. It’s how much you efficiently release. Fiber is one of the greatest keys of ongoing cleansing, as it binds to heavy metals and other toxins, and helps sweep them out of your system. Fiber also keeps you more full so that you tend to eat less heavy and/or acidic foods throughout the day. The Glowing Green Smoothie ® retains all of the fiber of the greens and fruit, rather than removing it.
Juices are great too, but they don’t contain fiber and I generally recommend consuming them mid-morning, post-workout or post-afternoon, versus the first (whole) food of the GGS in the mornings.
Simplicity & the Optimal GGS Ratio:
There is a simple elegance in nature, and therein lies her power. We have a tendency in our society to think more is more. Not always so. Sometimes too many ingredients at once can dilute the power and create more stagnant digestion. For your GGS stick to this simple ratio: water as the base, about 70% greens, 30% high fiber fruit. I encourage you to mix and match your greens and fruit to get a wide variety of plant foods and nutrients.
I recommend saving almond milk, chia seeds, protein powder and the like for your Power Protein Smoothie… the GGS is meant be simple, powerful, cleansing and easily digested.
