This time of year Mother Nature is blossoming, and so are you! You probably feel an extra spring in your step right now. Even if youâre not, this strawberry smoothie bowl is a perfect afternoon snack that elevates your skin health and boosts your energy.
I canât wait for you to give my Spring Strawberry Smoothie Bowl Recipe a try!
Awakening & Blossoming into Spring
Spring fosters more bursts of creativity, energy, and a desire to be outdoors among natureâtaking more walks, hikes or even just being more motivated to crawl out from under those cozy blankies, and get your day going.
We change our clothes seasonally, so why wouldnât we adjust our diets too?!
Lately, Iâve personally start to crave lighter and more cleansing (raw foods), to help clear out any stagnation from winter.
Iâve been eating blueberries lately like a champ, and I went strawberry picking with Bubby and fam a few weeks ago, which was amaze! Strawberries are one of the most fantastic, in-season foods for spring, so letâs talk about itâŚ
The Amazing Beauty-Fruit: Strawberries
Why do you find yourself gravitating towards these red, juicy, conical-shaped fruits? For me, they are not only a treat to my eyes but also my taste buds, and really, to all of my senses.
Isnât that how we approach eating anyhowâŚit really makes the whole experience more joyful and pleasing. But whatâs really amazing about this delicious fruit is how packed it is with nutrition.
Note: Be sure to get them organic!! They have consistently been a top Dirty Dozen produce item on the Environmental Working Group list!
Here are a few reasons why I love these âlil red gems:
All-Around Skin-Beautifier
If youâre looking to brighten your skin and tighten your pores, then salicylic acid is just the thing to remove dead cells from your skin to encourage new cell growth. And strawberries have the presence of Vitamin C, salicylic acid and antioxidants.
Also, ellagic acid prevents skin damageâmaking your skin look younger and fresherâexfoliating and soothing your skin by removing impurities. When it comes to preventing acne, strawberries are amazingly effective in clearing acne and reducing oil buildup.
Not only by consuming these guys but here is an awesome little DIY mask: Mash up about ½ cup of sliced strawberries with 1 tablespoon of organic honey. Apply to your face for 10 minutes. Voila! This is a great natural aid in helping to clear up pesky blemishes. Donât you love DIY masks?! I love them!!!
And talking about prevention, strawberries also have the power to fight free radicals. How? By providing vitamin C which is involved in the production of collagen, for smoother skin all around.
Beauty-Gut Enhancer
When it comes to feeling beautiful from the inside out, it really starts in our guts. So we want to make sure we add beauty foods into our daily routine, that will make our assimilation and digestion run smoothly.
The great thing about strawberries is theyâre rich in variety of antioxidants and phytochemicalsâhelping fight inflammatory disorders. When we keep the inflammation down, we naturally keep our waistline down.
Hopefully by now, you know I discourage counting calories. I find itâs unnecessary when you begin to apply The Beauty Detox Solution principles. If you havenât read my book yet, you can order your copy of The Beauty Detox Solution now. If youâre skeptical and want to know how to lose weight without counting calories my recent article talks all about it.
That doesnât mean I donât advocate for highly nutritious and low calorie foods, like strawberries, which are amazingly delicious, full of nutrients, and also happen to be great for weight loss since they are low in sugar, calories, sodium and of course theyâre fat-free.
They also contain nitratesâwhich promote blood flow and oxygen throughout the bodyâresulting in weight loss.
These nitrates also prevent muscles from becoming too tired after exercise, so remember that the next time you want to prep your muscles before your next workout (just be sure to give yourself some time to digest any foods before becoming too active).
Being great for your overall health and skin, you will want to get strawberries every time you visit your local farmers market! But how do you choose the best and tastiest?
How To âPick Emâ
Thankfully, strawberries are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors (from deep red and pink to off white or yellowish). There are European Alpine, Virginia, and Chilean strawberry. I personally think the smaller varieties are sweeter and more flavorful than the larger ones, which can be watery. Watery strawberries are bleh!
Try to select firm, fully red berries, and remember, strawberries DO NOT continue to ripen after they are picked!
Because of their delicious flavor and attractive appearance, strawberries are a great addition to any smoothie and to this smoothie bowl. Isnât it about time we look at our local listing for picking your own berries and/or grabbing the prettiest carton full!
Letâs get goingâŚ
