My Crispy Rosemary Turnip Fries Recipe is flavorful, and a great comfort food, without the deep frying. I am a recovering French fry-aholic. Fries were one of my favorite go-to treats.
I even had a rating system for all my favorite fries from all the different restaurants we went to. I was literally obsessed. These days I rarely eat deep fried foods, but I do like to find versions that emulate my old fav fries.
Plus, a great ketchup alternative!! Ketchup- which I also loved so much- often contains lots of added sugar and preservatives. But we still need a great dipping sauce, so I have a great one for you to try as well. I got you! :)
Beauty herbs (like rosemary), really can turn a plate of food into a satisfying delight. Just a few, fresh ingredients can make a simple dish really delicious.
Herbs also contain powerful antioxidants, essential oils and important vitamins. They have phytonutrients, which help our bodies fight disease and bolster our immune systems, not to mention our skin and hair.
Rosemary’s active components are antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic in nature, making it an important food to protect our health, as it adds a wonderful flavor.
This amazing herb also acts as a stimulant for the body—boosting the production of red blood cells and blood flow—helping to oxygenate vital organ systems, ensuring their metabolic activities, and stimulating the movement of nutrients to cells that may need repair.
Interesting to note, is that rosemary can help increase the rate at which water leaves the body, helping to flush out excess salts, toxins, and even excess fat when consumed on a regular basis.
When it comes to choosing fresh over dried, just remember that while a portion of the nutritional value of many herbs may be lost in drying, you will still reap the benefits. Whenever possible, fresh organic herbs are preferable- but sometimes convenience wins and in those cases dried herbs are okay too!
The typical ratio is three times the amount of fresh herbs as dry. For example, if a recipe calls for 1 tablespoon of fresh rosemary, you need only 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary, since 3 teaspoons equal 1 tablespoon.
As you know, dairy has a reputation for being a fantastic source of calcium- but upon digesting dairy, our bodies actually draw calcium out of our bones in order to neutralize the acidifying effect of dairy.
Why are we talking about dairy? Because when it comes to getting the calcium needed for a healthy diet, you can actually find healthy sources of calcium, turnips being one of them. Turnips are also rich in phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and magnesium. They also contain vitamin C, folate, and niacin, and are high in fiber, low in calories, and generally inexpensive.
It’s time we start adding more of this cruciferous vegetable into our meal prepping, for a variety in nutrients, flavor, and overall wellness.
