Heirloom Tomatoes

Okay now, let’s dive into my favorite part about writing up these recipes for you. If you have been following me for a while, you know that I have so much fun sharing with you some of my favorite facts about the ingredients I use. With literally hundreds of wonderful items out there, it is such a joy to tell you why I use the foods I do to create these recipes for you.

For starters, I’m excited to talk about tomatoes. Sadly, this humble fruit too often is robbed of its rich flavor. If you aren’t a fan of tomatoes, then Beauty, I challenge you to try something new. Instead of picking up a plain Jane tomato that looks so perfectly red and round in shape at the store – try out an organic heirloom tomato. Heirloom tomatoes are bursting with flavor. In my opinion, they are absolutely remarkable and look so much more vibrant than your standard non-organic tomato. They are so sweet, and packed with juicy goodness!

Tomatoes are a summer superstar crop. If you are lucky to have a farmers market in your area, you might be able to score some right now. Buy a few organic heirloom tomatoes for yourself. After you try this salad once, I can guarantee you that you’ll be wanting to make it again next week too. And for all the right reasons!

These mighty powerhouses are linked to boosting the immune system, fighting cancer and preventing heart disease. With high mineral and water content, they are top cleansers for your entire system. Plus, they come loaded with various vitamins, iron, and potassium. So if you’ve been that person who tends to forgo tomatoes in your salads, give them another chance. They are so good for you!

Radical Radishes

Do you know what veggie is totally radical??? (I just love that word.) Radishes are just totally radical. They are so exciting in my eyes. With a zesty, almost peppery taste, they truly make this Harvest Salad with a Tahini Citrus Vinaigrette recipe pop in all the right places.

What’s more, radishes help make your skin and hair glow in all the right ways. That’s right, Beauties. Radishes are a top beauty food. Not only do they look gorgeous in your salad bowl, but also they offer more than just that. Coming in hot with tons of sulfur, silica and vitamin C, they have the perfect combination of nutrients to boost your beauty in all the right ways.

In fact, radishes are the only common food high in BOTH of the beauty minerals – sulfur and silica. When sulfur, silica and Vitamin C are together, a little magic happens. Working synergistically, they make your skin glow and help to build healthy connective tissue formation. Radishes also contain raphanin, a substance to help balance thyroid hormones, to help keep you at your perfect, beautiful weight. Can we all say, “I’ll have more radishes, please?” :)

Are you interested in another way to get your glow on this summer? Then you’ve got to try out my Feel Good Vitamin C Serum. This potent vitamin C serum boasts up to 10x more active vitamin c with Asc2P, with more stable and powerful antioxidant boosting benefits. It deeply penetrates the skin’s surface and effectively aids in the repair and rejuvenation of skin cells damaged by harmful free radicals found in our everyday environment. This super vitamin-rich formula also packs a punch with a blend of Hyaluronic Acid, Licorice Root and anti-inflammatory natural hydrosols, offering anti-aging and curative benefits. Vegan skincare never felt so good!

Flavor-Filled Fennel

Now, this Harvest Salad with a Tahini Citrus Vinaigrette recipe also calls for a quarter bulb of fennel. And if you have yet to jump on the flavor-filled fennel train, it’s definitely time you do so! With such an aromatic smell, you are guaranteed to reach the “wow” factor when you are testing it out for the first time. Often compared to the hint of a licorice taste, this veggie is one that fills my senses with pure delight. Plus, it is relatively easy to source at your local market. Just look for a white or green bulb, with large feather green stalks growing out of the top. The entire veggie is edible and can be enjoyed raw in salads or cooked in soups.

With immune-boosting thoughts top of mind these days, let me share with you that fennel has got you covered in that department. Just one cup of fennel bulb contains almost 20% of the daily requirement of vitamin C. As you know, vitamin C improves our general immune system health. It also helps to form collagen by producing and repairing skin tissue. And let me be sure to share that it is also antioxidant-rich, helping to fight off the effects of free radicals damaging the body.

To all my lady Beauties out there, fennel is also linked to soothing menstrual issues. For years, Ayurvedic medicine has used fennel to help with menstrual pain. Since it helps to properly regulate hormones in the body called emmenagogue, fennel can help reduce the effects of PMS. It may even help to create a more relaxed state of mind as it is used in a number of different products on the market. With such a long list of benefits, it is totally worth jumping on the fennel train. For more fennel recipe inspiration, check out my Summer Fennel Beet Salad recipe

Tahini + Sesame

When it comes to making a healthy and still delicious salad dressing, there are a few things to consider. For starters, if you are going to use a fatty component, it’s so important to seek out only healthy versions. For this recipe, you’ll notice that it calls for tahini, which is made up of ground up sesame seeds. Sesame seeds provide a small number of healthy fats, and protein. Plus they offer a good deal of calcium, zinc, B-vitamins and other minerals. Both tahini and sesame seeds bring a wonderful nutty taste to this salad recipe that compliments all the other ingredients so well.

Ready for an insider tip? Sesame seeds are actually a beautiful hair-strengthening food. If you have ever colored your hair or blasted it with a blow-drier, then these little seeds should become your best friend! Seeds are such amazing and fortifying food. They protect our vitality and keep us strong in so many ways.

You may notice that you can find both black sesame seeds and white ones in your local market. Black seeds are more traditionally used in Asian dishes, and you’ll commonly find that tahini uses white sesame seeds. To keep this Harvest Salad with a Tahini Citrus Vinaigrette recipe cohesive, I suggest sprinkling on a tablespoon of the white sesame seeds. It will give your salad a nice little crunch and give you an extra boost of wellness!

There you have it, Beauties! Just a few takeaways for you to think about and inspire you as you make my Harvest Salad with a Tahini Citrus Vinaigrette recipe.
