Do you have a morning routine, Beauty? Even if you don’t think about it very much, you probably do! All of your morning habits— big or small— create your morning routine.
Do you get out of bed immediately or hit the snooze button on your alarm clock?
Do you start your day with some physical activity?
Do you immediately go for your morning coffee and a healthy breakfast?
Do you meditate or practice deep breathing exercises to center yourself?
Or does your morning routine revolve around getting your kids ready for the day?
A healthy morning routine is so important. Every morning is a fresh start! It’s another opportunity to go out and get what you want. And your morning routine is setting you up for success. However, you might accidentally be sabotaging your day if your morning routine isn’t ideal.
Small daily practices can lead to big shifts in your life. Creating and sticking to a new healthy habit can foster good physical and mental health in the long run.
So how do you create a successful morning routine?
I’ve found that for me consistency— or practicing these habits daily— is so important!
If you stay consistent, you’ll remember the big picture and why the small things, like a good morning routine, matter to attaining your goals.
So let’s start by taking a look at how your daily morning routine sets the mood for your day.
How Your Morning Routine Shapes Your Whole Day
Picture your morning today. What did it feel like? Was it calm and collected? Or did it feel rushed, hectic, or like you were drained and forcing your way through it?
The morning sets the tone for your day— so if your morning starts off well, then your day will probably go well too! But if your morning is a bit of a struggle, then your day may not be as productive or as easeful as you want. That’s because a consistent and productive morning routine allows you to control your own schedule, rather than let it control you.
Starting each morning with a clear and open mind will help give you the focus you need to make the most out of your day. And I find that if my morning goes well, I usually feel less depleted at night too— which is a huge bonus!
One of the best things about mornings is that the possibilities can be endless.
Mornings can be when you have the most control of your day— if you’re getting up early enough. You might feel you have more control at night, but at night we’re often so tired or depleted that it doesn’t matter as much. So as a result, we don’t tend to get as much done at night.
Mamas, you probably know this feeling well! I never know what to expect with two young kiddos, so I always rise early and get in some “me time” before the chaos hits.
If you feel like your mornings are filled with everyone else’s needs and you barely have any time for yourself, I recommend you give this a try. I know getting up earlier can be hard sometimes— not everyone is a morning person. But if going to bed 15-20 minutes earlier is a game-changer for you like it is for me, then it’s worth it!
So now that you know how a great morning routine can help you take on the day, let me share what I do each morning to get the most out of my day!
My Morning Routine
Even on mornings that are a little more unpredictable— they can be that way with the kids!— sticking to a few healthy morning rituals can make a huge difference.
So here are my four “non-negotiables” for my morning routine.
I find these healthy habits and activities work really well for me. When any one of these gets skipped or missed I really notice. I hope you’ll feel inspired, and perhaps implement one or more of my morning routine activities into your routine!
1. Probiotics
I always take my Feel Good SBO Probiotics+ in the morning. My gut health is at the core of my overall health so I never want to forget to take them. When I do it first thing, I never miss a day!
Want to learn more about your gut health’s impact on your overall health? Check out my podcast where I talk to gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz about how to restore your gut health!
2. Hot Water with Lemon
Next, I warm myself up with some warm water and fresh lemon juice. Sometimes I add a little fresh ginger, too! It’s an energizing antioxidant boost for my body’s cells and helps flush toxins out of my body!
Tip: I always drink a large glass of room temperature water first with my probiotics. But even if you’re not taking a probiotic, drink a tall glass of water first. You lose a lot of water while you sleep and you’ll start the day dehydrated if you don’t.
3. Glowing Green Smoothie
It’s smoothie time! I start every day off by giving my body the fuel it needs with the Glowing Green Smoothie (GGS).
There are a lot of great smoothie recipes out there! I have dozens here on my website, but they NEVER replace my GGS in the mornings!
This is because the GGS has a unique blend of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber, high-quality amino acids— which build protein— and countless other phytonutrients. It also doesn’t slow down your digestion like high fat and high protein smoothies can.
Stick to GGS in the mornings and drink your other smoothies for snacks or during lunchtime. There’s never a bad time for a healthy smoothie. :)
4. Meditate and Connect Inward
Meditation is an important part of my morning ritual because it allows me to check in with myself and set intentions for the day.
Meditation and mindfulness are so important to a productive day. They help you stay anchored to your “why.” It can be so easy to brush aside what can seem like the “little things.” But these “little things” produce BIG shifts in your energy, your mood, and your motivation throughout the day! That’s why it’s so important to dedicate time in the morning to center yourself. It can really help you roll with the punches when— not if— things don’t go exactly as planned.
If you need some help getting started with meditation, here are some of my practical enlightenment meditations. They’re short guided meditations that are great for building a consistent practice!
These four habits are the non-negotiables for when I start my day. They are part of my core morning routine, but I also dedicate time to healthy habits like journaling, reading and movement. I personally love awakening my body with gentle yoga.
Morning Routine Isn’t Perfect? That’s Okay!
Let me be clear, Beauties— there’s no such thing as a perfect morning routine. In our perfectly imperfect lives, not every morning is going to go according to plan. And that’s okay.
Slip-ups are bound to happen. Just remember to stay consistent with your morning routine and be kind to yourself, my loves.
So what does your morning routine look like? I’d love to hear what you’re already doing in the mornings, and what you’d like to add to make your mornings even better! You can leave a comment below on this blog post, or share your routine or goals with me by leaving a comment on IG, where I shared a video of my routine!
With big love and gratitude,
Hi Kimberly!🦋✨ There’s a lot of diffrent information out there, when it comes the timing, when taking SBO Probiotics. I would love to know from you what’s the ideal timing.
It would feel so nice to have some confidence in the way to take them for optimal results!
If I take them in the morning with a glass of water, how long should I wait (ideally) before drinking hot water with lemon? xx Ellie
Thanks Ellie! I completely understand you wanting to feel confident in the way you should take your SBO Probiotics. Really, let your body intuitively guide you if you have the time. I personally take them first thing and then allow about 5-10 minutes to go by while I’m preparing my hot water and lemon. If you have additional questions, you can contact love@mysolluna.com. Lots of love to you! Xo
