Ready for a great energy booster but something that’s a ‘lil different?

I don’t see banana and ginger combined that much but it’s actually a pretty awesome combo. I present to you my brand new Banana Ginger Smoothie, which is loaded with fiber and vitamins, is low in fat, easily digestible and will help keep your blood sugar levels balanced.

Coconut water is hydrating, and optimal hydration is essential for healthy skin and hair. Coconut yogurt contains enzymes and live, gut-balancing probiotics, and ginger warms the body and fuels your metabolism. Just what we need in a functionally beautifying yet delicious afternoon smoothie snack!

Haven’t had a banana in a while? Let’s find out why we should get peeling…

Aren’t Bananas For Monkeys?

When I was recently in Nicaragua and staying in a tree house, I underestimated how smart the monkeys are and a few times they used their little monkey fingers to peel open the door, climb into the kitchen, and eat all the bananas I had on the counter! Sneaky little suckers!! I only wish I had a camera on to capture them in the act. :)

Bananas are also one of the perfect foods for humans— not just monkeys. We have monkey-like fingers which were designed to peel, not only bananas but other fruits too. We don’t have sharp claws designed to rip apart other animals (thank goodness!).

Monkeys eat bananas. Monkey forest in Ubud Bali Indonesia.

I absolutely love bananas! I eat a few bananas every day- both plain and in my Glowing Green Smoothie. Many people avoid them because they worry that they are “fattening” somehow. But if the rest of your diet and your gut is balanced, you will definitely thrive on bananas. Learn all about this amazing fruit here!

But for now, just know that bananas are high in potassium— which is an important mineral and electrolyte necessary for muscular function and digestion. Potassium also helps balance the effects of sodium on your body.

Bananas also contain fiber (3 grams in a medium-sized one), and vitamins A, B, E, K and C as well as 6 mcg of folic acid (essential for red blood cell formation). (And even though we don’t follow calorie counting in Beauty Detox, for those of you that feel comfortable eating something once you know the calorie content, this tasty package only has about 105 calories and 0 grams of fat.)

Bananas are also great in helping your body to easily break them down and digest them, thanks to their natural oils, fiber and enzymes. They won’t weigh down your digestive tract and will actually help to lubricate it. The electrolytes in bananas help restore electrolytic balance while the fiber helps keep bowel movements regular.

Let’s face it…Bananas are amazing!
