I created this short video to share some of what I am learning with you during my Ayurveda clinical hours. I’m learning so much about Ayurveda from Dr. Parla S Jayagopal…or Doctor Jay as I affectionately call him!
Right now as winter is approaching, a lot of people are feeling the effects of the cold weather and getting sick; there’s a big problem with immunity. Besides ginger, which we talk about a lot, I wanted to share some common herbs, spices and foods that we can incorporate right now to help keep the sniffles away.
Very commonly available are Echinacea tea and Goldenseal tea which can work wonders for your immunity. You can drink this tea two times a day. You may find it not very flavorful but you can add a little bit of raw honey or stevia into it. Raw honey is great as it gives a very nice flavor and it also has some anti-bacterial properties. Having this tea is good for clearing all the mucus toxins out. It helps to digest it and keeps the body immunity going.
The second thing that you can do is create this Lickable Immunity Paste… You can enjoy it every day in the morning or in the evening after meals. It helps to cleanse your system because these are warming herbs. And if you’re already sick with some type of congestion, you could also have this paste at the same time…it will really help! You can take this twice a day; especially if you feel like something is just coming on.
See the step-by-step instructions are below:
- ¼ tsp. powdered cloves
- ¼ tsp. powdered cinnamon
- ¼ tsp. freshly ground black pepper
- ½ tsp. powdered turmeric
- 1½ - 2 tsp. honey or maple syrup
- Mix all the dry ingredients together
- Add in the honey or maple syrup
- Blend well into a lickable paste using your finger
