This coconut-ty, pineapple and mango infused smoothie has one ingredient – ginseng, that won’t have you scrounging for those prescriptive drugs we won’t speak of today! :)
Why Use Ginseng?
This slow growing perennial plant, with fleshy roots, is among 11 species of ginseng, all belonging to the genus Panax of the family Araliaceae; the botanical name Panax means “all heal” in Greek. All of us, I am sure, could use some healing. Who doesn’t, really?
Whether we’re feeling sluggish, fatigued, run-down or tired, this root has been known to not only restore but enhance normal well-being. Providing and improving energy and cognitive function, as an anti-inflammatory, this is one plant you’ll want to start adding to your weekly grocery list.
You may pick up the bitter notes when you first try ginseng but it is also a bit sweet and earthy all at the same time. It’s all about how you combine it, and in this new smoothie, I think the combination will make your mouth water and get you daydreaming about the islands in no time. ;)
Give this recipe a whirl…
- 8 ounces coconut water
- ½ cup fresh mango
- ½ heaping cup fresh pineapple chunks
- ½ teaspoon ginseng powder
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- Pinch of nutmeg
- Add the coconut water, mango, pineapple, ginseng powder, cinnamon and nutmeg to the blender. Starting the blender on a low speed, blend until smooth. If needed gradually increase to higher speeds and blend until smooth.
