I wanted to share some photos and experiences from Greece. I was there last year and I’m can still feel the rejuvenative energy of the caldera (volcano) and mythic Greece.
I’ve been to Croatia and Italy, and Turkey just before the trip, but this was actually my first time to Greece! It is a lovely place, and the white houses and structures on the cliffs are breathtaking, as is swimming in the “charged” volcano water itself. It also has some of the best travel food I’ve ever experienced- VERY Beauty Detox friendly, shall we say!
You’ll see that a lot of this photos don’t need much explanation. I was doing a lot of yoga there, and we made a daily pilgrimage down to the caldera to swim, so a lot of the photos are from these daily activities, which were a big part of my journey there.
I hope you can feel some of the energy held within this asanas (poses), just be looking at them.
This is my friend Ola. A lot of these yoga shots were taken at sunrise. Within a few hours after that, it gets way too hot to do much yoga- and that is when we’d go down to the caldera to swim. Sunrise was magical, with no one around, and we had free reign of the roofs to climb to practice on for stunning views.
This is horta, a traditional Greek dish made of cooked wild greens, which is served with lemon. Delish! We ate it every day, along with big raw Greek salads (sans the cheese).
Here’s one of our caldera spots. There’s no “beach”, so you just have to find a little flat spot in the rocks to put down your towel and relax.
The water is super cold! But refreshing and magical. It feels like you’re really getting recharged from plunging in. And so we did, each and every day.
Local singers. Greece is a soulful language!
Sacred morning time for stillness.
This church is in the main square of Oja, Santorini. Again, it’s sunrise! A few hours later and it’s packed, and boiling hot.
We were taking a PranaDanda workshop this week, run by Demitri Valisarius primarily, and his partner Shiva Rea, who are co-founders of this type of yoga that involves using a 5-foot long bendable staff, which among other things, is a dynamic teacher about the energy within our own spines (shushumna nadi).
Ola and I took a boat to the volcanic center and hiked there with the rest of the people taking the yoga workshop. There it is, below, looking like an island.
Every day we’d hike up and down these stairs, sharing the path with the donkeys, to get down to the caldera, below to swim. It was a steep climb uphill, about 30 minutes. Whew!
Hiking on the volcano…you’ll see that it actually is living and steaming (a bit hard to see in this picture)! But next to my hand it was super hot and spewing out steam.
Standing on that column is the highest point of Santorini. I just did it, and am feeling so energized I’m skipping back!
This is a lone Titanic moment. Too bad John wasn’t here! :)
I ran into this beautiful Beauty Detoxer from Long Island who was traveling with her husband and her friends. Her hubby is below. Hub, I hope you too have taken up drinking the Glowing Green Smoothie, as you told me you were going to! Let me now know how it’s going for you both. Lots of love.
PS: If you ever happen to see me, no matter what country I might be, please do say hello! I absolutely love meeting readers and members of our community!!
The resolution on this pic isn’t awesome, but basically this is Ola and my’s porch at sunset, overlooking the cliffs and caldera!
The water here is clear and simply gorgeous!
We hiked all the way up Skaros, this rock formation in the distance, which used to house an ancient castle long ago. For the last bit, you have to do a bit of free rock climbing to get to the really top, flat surface, but it is well worth it. I had an incredible sunset meditation on the top.
Watching the sunset just settles your whole being down, doesn’t it? It’s therapeutic and a way to reconnect with our natural rhythms with all of the universe.
Here are the wonderful Demitri and Shiva, who ran the PranaDanda yoga training!
More rooftops, more inspiration.
Everything seems worthy of a photo in Greece — so much character.
Sometimes it’s easy to forget our incredible inner strength, which is why reconnecting back with the earth is so important. Nature is the best teacher to help us feel that we are truly part the limitless energy of the universe.
For me, practicing yoga outside sometimes is an incredible gift, as being in the elements and opening up your spine and feeling your own strength rooted in this expansive creative power.
Beautiful Greek salads and Fava (a stewed yellow lentil dish), were also daily staples.
OM.
Picnic on the rocks from our favorite Greek restaurant on the caldera- Dmitri’s!
Just go for it!
I hope you’ve enjoyed the journey through Santorini with me!
And feel inspired to get outside and do some yoga outdoors or whatever outdoor activity you love.
See you back here soon!
With love and gratitude,
Kimberly

Ahh, thanks!
Beautiful, beautiful photos Kimberly — I am in awe of your Yoga abilities — how do I get started — what type of yoga can I start with — my body is telling me to get up and move and do something — I am intrigued by yoga, but have no idea how to start – can you send me an email and help me please. Thanks for sharing
Hi Cat, thanks. I would recommend any type of yoga you are drawn to, perhaps wherever there are classes near you. The most important thing in the beginning is getting into a rhythm of practice and building the habit. We will be releasing a yoga program this year as well, so stay tuned for that also!
Kim,
Your skin color is so beautiful. Are you naturally tan, do you use sunscreen, do you use body bronzer or self-tanner? The UV light from the sun can be aging but it also produces such beautiful color.
Best,
Patricia
Hi Patricia, this is my natural color — I get some sun exposure but no tanners or artificial anything. Thanks for the compliment. You are sweet.

Wow Kim,

Dear Kimberly, thank you for inspiring me with all your beautiful pictures from your time in Santorini, all the way down here in Australia! It was very uplifting to read about your time there as I’m about to have an operation to remove part of a slipped disc in my neck & haven’t been able to practice yoga for sometime & I miss it. I have been keeping up with the glowing green smoothies though! Love Julie :)
Hi Kimberly,
I am wondering What kind of yoga have asana pose? My goal will be hand stand. Thanks
Hi Kim, I wanted to start yoga but I want to know what kind of yoga teaching asanas pose and more hand stand work? one more question is R U 100% Rawish?
@Mai – I know Bikram yoga has advanced classes with some 80 asana poses I believe. I am a Bikram girl for life going on my 11th year!
Your skin oozes radiance! Looks like an amazing holiday! Perfect way to rejuvenate …
Excellent photos! Your travel buddies must be quite the photographers. Looks like your visit was fantastic from the views, to the water, to the food, to the yoga!
I have been traveling to Greece for years, and LOVED seeing it through a Beauty Detox lens. Greece, for me, has been meat, wine, cheese, bread, late nights….and incredible passion. While several things in that list have drastically changed in my more recent years, the passion is still so part of their culture. I loved seeing this journey, since it is really the hybrid of 2 passions of mine: Greece and beauty detoxing/healthy living. Thank you for sharing and letting us see that you CAN love something like Greece with a health-focused approach.
Kim,I love your photos very much! They are very beautiful!
