Why Is Green Tea Considered A Healthy Drink?

Green tea has gotten lots of great press for being a great health beverage, and rightfully so. It’s packed with antioxidants and nutrients. These have powerful benefits for your overall health and beauty.

Many of the bioactive compounds found in the tea leaves make it into the final prepared drink, which contains large amounts of important nutrients, such as polyphenols.

Polyphenols function as powerful antioxidants, just like flavonoids and catechins, and can reduce the formation of free radicals in the body.

The end result is protection from damage for our cells and molecules. These free radicals are also known in playing a role in aging and other diseases.

Why Is Green Tea So Powerful?

One of the more powerful compounds in green tea is the antioxidant Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG).

This compound has been studied to treat various diseases and may be one of the main reasons green tea has such powerful medicinal properties. Among other things, it helps with brain function, fat loss, and lowers the risk of cancer.

How To Use Green Tea

It’s great to use loose leaf tea or tea bags that contain loose leaves (as opposed to tea “dust”), which are higher quality and are less processed.

Whichever brand of green tea you decide to go with, try to choose a higher quality organic brand. And don’t hesitate to ask your local health food store for some quality brand suggestions!

This will ensure that you’re staying away from excessive levels of fluoride and pesticides, which are known to be in some of the lower quality brands.

The blueberries in this recipe are also backed with antioxidants, vitamins and beauty and brain-boosting compounds.
