Today our topic is CBD Oil Skin Care and Beauty. There is more and more emerging research coming out about CBD as it relates to different health conditions like anxiety, depression and heart disease.
Today, I want to focus specifically about CBD in skin products and beauty products which is starting to be very popular. We want to get right into what’s the deal, why is this all the rage right now? Is it effective, and how can you avoid CBD oil rip-offs because not every product is created equal as we all know well?
Let’s get right into the first topic, which I think is really interesting and it has to do with CBD oil and acne. There is research from the Journal of Clinical Investigation finding promising results with CBD and acne.
This study explored the effects of CBD on human sebocytes, which are the cells that create sebum that turn into pimples and acne. They found that CBD oil can actually trigger an anti-inflammatory reaction in these cells, and it can prevent inflammatory cytokines from activating.
There’s also a review from 2016 highlighting the antibacterial and antifungal effects of CBD, which again, helps to reduce acne in your skin. Very, very exciting, especially from someone such as myself that had battled acne for a long time.
CBD products are not all considered equal. With beauty products, there can be just a few little percentage points. It could be like a drop of CBD, or it can be up to 90% CBD.
Our skin is our largest organ and our epidermis absorbs a lot so you can really benefit from CBD if it is potent, powerful, and well-formulated. That’s a big if because there’s so many cannabinoid receptors on the surface of our skin. When CBD is applied topically through patches and through skincare it’s actually a really exciting thing for us to explore right now.
When it comes to CBD oil ripoffs, there was a study I want to mention here from 2017 where researchers from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine found that when they tested 84 different consumer products containing CBD, they found that 26% of them, over a quarter of them, actually contained less CBD than the label suggested. There were other compounds in there that were not what they said it was.
Research on CBD safety published in the Journal of Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research found that CBD has a very favorable safety profile. Although I do want to mention some of the potential side effects because we’re all different. Our bodies are all different, which can include fatigue, diarrhea and appetite changes.
In this research, it was largely found to be in people that ingested CBD rather than apply it topically. It’s always possible that you may experience an allergic reaction. You may have sensitivity to CBD products, so you want to really make sure that you test a small area as you do with any skincare.
Make sure that your CBD is real and it’s not a ripoff because the FDA right now does not regulate the purity or the safety of CBD oil supplements. You will really want to do your research and review the efficacy of a brand. Remember that if something is truly CBD, it will be more pricey because true CBD is quite expensive to extract in its potent form.
That being said, the ones that are pure and have the efficacy behind them, have the potential to affect your body, your skin, and your beauty through the topical application, I know specifically with acne, like we just talked about.
Do your research, Beauty. I’d love to hear from you. If there’s anything you’ve tried that you liked a lot, anything you want to share with the community, please leave them here in the comments below. Otherwise, we’ll keep communicating about some of these trends and applications and what’s real and what’s not. But I think this is really exciting at this stage.
Thank you so much for tuning in, Beauty, sending you so much love. I will see you back here soon. Remember, you can ask me all the questions you want over on the podcast tab. We have a Q & A podcast every Thursday.
I also do Instagram lives, and of course we have our Solluna Circle where we are building that community and really going deep with foods, practices, and meditations around our monthly themes.
Lots going on. So grateful for you. I will see you back here soon. Take care and have an amazing, lovely, beautiful day.
