My Vegan Vanilla Latte

I’m still in LA, but even here it still gets cold at night! I really like hot drinks this time of year. Sometimes a milky hot drink is really special, and extra comforting. If you haven’t already, I suggest you check out my Vegan Almost Raw Hot Chocolate.

Sometimes you either don’t have raw cacao in the house, or don’t want even a tiny bit of caffeine, OR you just want variety! In these cases, for my hot drink lovers, you will love my Vegan Vanilla Latte!! I am excited to share this with you. It is yum!

It contains cinnamon, which has been shown to help regulate our blood sugar levels, and has an anti-clotting effect on the blood. It is even recommended for people with Type 2 diabetes to consume. Cinnamon is even believed to boost boosts cognitive function and memory.

I hope you love and enjoy this drink. I know I truly do, and it is a great alternative to a desert if you want something sweet after a meal- but still easy to digest. A great pairing to this yummy drink is my truffles recipe, the perfect combination for super deliciousness!

Lots of love,
Kimberly

    hellou kimberly,

i’ve been reading your blog since summer 2009. i really like this! good tips and delicious food! i also appriciate you seem to support vegan diet from an ethical point of view and reject must count calories -manner 🙂

what do you think of organic oat milk? is it healthy? it’s ecologial to use it here in scandinavia – at least. soon i will test your hot chocolate recipe but use oat milk instead of almond milk. we have almost 20 minus degrees so hot chocolate is really timely here atm.

    best regards,

    sanna

      Hi Sanna!
Yes, by all means use the oat milk. It should taste quite good actually in the drink. Just be sure to avoid dairy and soy milk, which I always emphasize.
      Stay warm my friend!!!
It is snowing here in NY as I write this…

        Hi Kim,
I just started reading your blog and i am fascinated, and ready to try everything the you have suggested. I have been a vegetarian for about 3 months now, which was a hard transition, because you realize all the things that you no longer can eat and wonder….hmmm so then what CAN i eat? I gained a bit of weight because i was eating too much bread, but i must say i feel a lot better! I have tried eating a little bit of meat maybe on 3 different occasions and it does not do it for me anymore. But i do still eat fish because my lack of knowledge on what to eat has left my body malnourished. Anyways I am happy i found this, so thank you for being so inspirational! 🙂
I did want to ask, what is it about soy milk that you don’t recommend (mind you i think it tastes awful but my mom and dad drink it so I’m concerned about that)?

        Thank you,

        xoxo Gladys 🙂

I will be making an exciting announcement soon regarding this topic. So stay tuned!

Do you know what the shelf life is? Would it be safe to stock up for a couple months in advance?

      Thanks!

shelf life for almond milk? It does keep for a while, and you can check the box for the expiration date. xx

    Hi Kim,

what a yummmmm drink to make! I guess you could also froth up the milk a bit to make it even more latte-ish. Can’t wait to try it! thanks 🙂

A bit off topic here but I’m confused about something i keep hearing differing opinions about. I have spirulina/chlorella in my green smoothies and was wondering do you know if it’s alkalising or acidifying?? some people say its acid, some say its alkaline and its left me feeling confused. im trying to look for evidence to back up these claims but am finding it hard. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

Hi Elisa! These green algaes are still alkaline. Chlorella is great in tablet form when you are on the go! It can keep you feeling really satisfied if you chew like 10 of them. So I don’t add any chlorella to my green drinks, but do use them for backup or in separate recipes.

Love this recipe. And once again, you’ve inspired me, Kim. I foamed the vegan vanilla latte in the blender (very low-tech) and also came up with a different take on it–a Rice Pudding Latte. Here’s the link: http://westofpersia.wordpress.com/2009/12/29/rice-pudding-latte/

I love this latte! This was my first attempt with almond milk and I really enjoyed it. Does it matter if I microwave the milk instead of heating it over the stove? I noticed they also carry chocolate almond milk. Any thoughts on that? What about the coconut milk based “ice cream” that I’ve been seeing in stores?

This is funny. A while back I tried to make my own version of Horchata that was dairy-free. Since here in California, most people make it with milk. I used all of these exact ingredients and method of warming the almond milk. Yummy Yummy Yummy.

I remember the first time that I tried real Horchata in Mexico that’s made with rice milk.

I haven’t made this in a while. It always brings a smile & light warmth in my belly. So thanks for inspiring my good memories.

Looking forward to making the almost raw hot cholocate as I made a choice to leave the ones at Starbucks behind a couple of months ago. Still find myself thinking about them,
Also will be trying the vanilla lattee as I made a choice to leave green and white tea behind. I used them as a sneaky way to give myself a caffeine kick. After being away my emotions have improved. Thanks VLL

    Hi kim

Just made the vegan vanilla latte! I am not a cinnamon person but i tried it with almond milk (which I steamed and made nice and frothy) It is truly delish! Will replace my morning latte with it for a week to help me detox off the caffeine!

I’m just beginning the blossoming beauty phase of the diet and I have been having problems for awhile now with yeast infections and other infections where I have too much bacteria. I was wondering if stevia and cinnamon were still okay to consume during this period, I know that sugar is a no no, but I really love the vegan vanilla latte!

Interesting.!!! I used to do that years ago with a little bit of caster sugar because of the cold and my sweet tooth. I actually did it becasue it made me sleep better and I felt calmer. Weird, I know. But that was with regular milk. I’ll try it with almond and see if it has the same soothing effect.
