The Hunger-Killer Combo

I had a rather harrowing morning. I got stuck with a taxi driver that did not know how to get to JFK airport via the highway (I mean really???). So we took Queens Blvd, full of stoplights every few feet. I wasn’t paying attention until I was like – “What?? How come instead of going 80 mph down the highway I’m seeing strip malls and condo complexes in Queens??” I told him about 5 times I was going to JFK, when I got suspicious of his route, but he still took me to Laguardia!!! It was only THEN that he decided to pull over on the side of the highway and pull out his GPS, which he had the whole time! Unbelievable. Once I knew we were actually going to the right airport, I decided to tune it out and not let it annoy me (Yogi Puifier Breath!!). To make up for it, there were no lines checking in or getting through security though. 🙂

Anyways…I’m actually eating my Hunger-Killer Combo on this plane, which I started eating often when I started traveling often. It goes like this: 3 (give or take) clementines, or an apple and an orange, or any similar fruit combination, chased by a whole avocado. You can but you don’t have to worry about waiting 20 minutes after the fruit to follow with the fatty fruit of the avo, since that combines pretty well (esp. if you are starving). The fruit acts like the quick water to put out the hunger fire, as you can gobble it up immediatey, then the avocado acts like the anchor. All the healthy, creamy fat and fiber really settle you down, and signal your brain that you just ate something very satisfying. On this flight, they did not have knifes, so I peeled the avocado like an orange and ate it like an apple! 🙂 Of course, napkins are a must!!

Sometimes people are scared that avos have a lot of fat and calories. But we have to understand that this type of raw fat digests very easily by the body, and much easier than even raw nuts or raw, healthy oils. It still contains water, and is not as concentrated as the first two. However,  I wouldn’t recommend eating lots of nuts and avocado at the same time- that is a combination for weight gain. But not the Hunger-Killer Combo!!

This is so much better than any alternative you can find on a plane. The Hunger-Killer Combo is full of minerals, vitamins, and beauty fat. You won’t screw up your diet so when you are in a bind, such as on a plane or stuck at the office and resort to less than ideal alternatives, you already feel heavy, crappy and fat.

Incidentally, you can also use the avocado to chase your Green Smoothies, if you get hungry afterwards. That would be a good, easily digestible combo to get you to lunch without snacking.

Have a great start to your weekend!!

Lots of love, Kimberly

    Hi Kimberly,
Funny, I’m on a flight from NY to LA right now too! I love that I can be on the Internet!

I would also love to have the hunger-killer combo right now too. I’m starving, and the only thing edible on this plane wasn’t food….just Smart Water. I’ll plan ahead next time.
I hope I run into you in LA 🙂

This is great info, Kim. I’m definitely going to try it on my next trip. And I love that the green smoothie can be chased by some avocado. Good to know. Usually the smoothie’s enough for me, but some mornings I have more of an appetite.

Oh, and btw, I finally posted the Double Cabbage Salad to my blog. If the tahini-lemon-garlic dressing’s not your thing, just use whatever dressing you prefer:

    Have a great weekend! Xoxo.

That sounds like a great idea! Since I don’t really love the taste of a plain avocado, do you think it would have a similar effect if I just threw the avocado into a green smoothie?

    Hi Kim

I’ve beenb vegan for many years but since I recently went raw i havebeen having frequent episodes of binge eating. It is making me so sick and miserable. What do you think is going on?

I think you probably did not transition correctly. When we go raw, even if we are vegan before, we can kick up a lot of toxicity that needs to be eliminated. Be sure you are taking a probiotic, going to the bathroom frequently, and I suggest some gravity colonics. If you are feeling miserable have some cooked food at dinner to help slow down cleansing= something like millet or quinoa or cooked sweet potatoes, to add some heaviness and denseness. check out my blog, the post 4th of july cleanse, for some simple eating plan ideas. xx Kimberly

Thanks!! I’ve been incorporating your wonderful suggestions but was at a total loss as to flight nutrition. We left for Orlando last Wed. and after green drink I opted to have nothing until we landed and got to our resort. That was a long day and I just pretended I was fasting. Obviously I was ready for dinner and it was very hard to eat right. So this came at the right time for my flight back. While I was here I have been having a green drink every morning (Green Vibrance by Vibrant Health) and in the parks when there are no good options I take a packet of whey protein to mix with water for lunch. Hopefully these are good options for travel.

I would have hemp protein instead of the whey. But the Green Vibrance is a great option! xx Kimberly

    Dear Kimberley
That’s really interesting – I recently ate peppers with avocado and I was suprised how filling they were. I am not sure whether peppers have the same impact because they are vegetables and not fruits but it might be something similar.

Haha. I was going to thank you last week actually but I got too busy and forgot. On my flight to Utah last week I had a bag packed with clementines, avocados, celery, and hummus. I was able to bypass all the salty nuts in the terminal that I usually go for. And it was so much more gratifying to pull it out and have a real food meal midflight instead of subsisting on Larabars for hours. Thanks so much for all your advice. And its your birthday? Happy Birthday!!!!!!!! Aww its my mans bday today too. Feburary 6th people are good people!

I have a lot of weight to lose and I am currently having 2-3 green smoothies/day with a small meal at some point during the day.
I love avocados and I would love to think that eating one instead of my other “meal/snack” would be better for my health and weight loss. Could this be true? Better than a handful of raw nuts each day too?
Thanks for your answers and inspiration!

    Hi Kimberly!
Congratulations on your recent announcement and upcoming endeavors! You’re an inspiration to us all!
You’ve been so helpful to me with some questions I’ve posed to you that I wanted to ask you for some help with my children. My son and daughter both have always had trouble with constipation (he’s 9 and she’s 8 years old). They go every 1-2 days now (better than before) but they have rather large BMs for their size! I’ve been giving them aloe juice from Whole Foods and they eat fiber gummies. I encourage lots of water but wondered if you have any other suggestions to get them on a more frequent schedule that would make them not so large. I refuse to put them on Miralax as suggested by the pediatrician. Thank you so much.

Hi Laura! Kids generally do well with some dried fruit, like prunes and figs and dates, which can be substituted for sweets, ice cream, and constipating sweet pastries. If you could get them to drink some Green Smoothie that would be great!! Also more salads, and no white bread or refined bread products. Lots of fresh fruit also!

Can I put avocado into my green smoothie instead of banana? Just wondering–sometimes I just want a little more…

By the way, I’ve been drinking the smoothie every day for almost 2 weeks, and I. Feel. GREAT. And my skin looks better than it has looked in years. Thank you so much–i’m so glad I stumbled onto it.

Hi Tracy, that’s wonderful! I’d rather you separate the avo from the smoothie if possible. Keep it non-fat the way it is, so it can pass faster. Then eat the avo after! xx Kimberly

    Hi Kimberly,
Do you prefer your diet to consist of more fruit than fat, or more fats than fruit. I know you practice balance and variety with nutrition, but which path do you take with your diet? Is eating an avocado, nuts or seeds, and oils on salads too much fat for one day?

    Thanks,
    Dawn

Hi Dawn! I personally think most raw foodists eat way too much fat. My favorite fat is avocado. I’ve really cut back on oil and the quantity of nuts in my diet. The amount of fat we eat has to depend on our constitution and our lifestyle though. And all these fats are better than any cooked animal fats! xx Kimberly
