Have never heard of this fruit except from you. It looks yum. Is it unusually hard to find?
Hi Kimberly! Totally going to ur durian guy when I’m in NYC. Do you recommend any healthy spots to ck out? Also when you go out how do you find wine w/o sulfites?
Hi Trang! You should check out my wine video on organic and biodynamic wine. There is a great wine shop here in the city called Le Du’s, that has hundreds of such wines. They can also give you more tips…I’m not a huge wine expert myself!
xx Love Kimberly
Thanks Kimberly! I’ll check it out. Take care & much love.

Just got back from getting a manicure. The woman I go to is Vietnamese and always has something new for me to taste. I ask her about Durien and she knew immediately what I was talking about (go figure). Anyway, she told me they are very odiforous. In Singapore she said that the buses have a sign that says if you are eating it to walk home. That’s because us American tourists cannot stand the smell! She’s going to get me one (&she said I would need to hold my nose) so I can taste. When she has one at home her husband likes them so much he takes it and hides to eat it so he doesn’t have to share. How can anything that stinks that bad taste so good. I’m going to find out.
OH hilarious! I’ve always heard that about smell but I’ve never gotten that!! If you leave it around I think it gets stinky. You have to sort of eat it right away! I’ve taken friends down there and most people really like it! Worth a shot love! :)
My cousins have terrified me of the smell, esp. with a Wikipedia entry. You did not mention anything. Did you ever notice the smell at the beginning? What are the benefits of this fruit so it makes it worth the reputable bad smell, if I muster up courage to try it! :) (You mentioned good skin but anything else?) Thanks Kimberly!
I love Jay; seems like such a sweet sweet man!! :) How happy! I found a store in San Diego that carries a lot of great Asian food sometimes carries durian too so I’m going to check it out. Fruit that tastes like ice cream how awesome is that!
taste like ice cream??!?..i wanna try it
I love Durian! I’ve never had it fresh! Gasp! I can only find it frozen in NJ! Next time I am in NYC I am going to see Jay! ;)
Jay is awesome! I’ll try to visit his shop this weekend and check out durian.
I haven’t ever tried the real stuff. Years ago, I tried some durian candy that was naaaaaasty! It had that awful stink that many people associate with the fruit. Plus, I heard that overripe durians have been known to fall off trees and kill people in Asia (that heavy fruit with all the spikes–recipe for disaster). But your description sounds so tempting! How could I not want to give it a try? Thanks for helping me get over my durian discrimination!
Have you ever tried jackfruit? It looks a bit like durian–hard brown rind with spikes. I tried it in Australia (at the best tourist attraction ever, Tropical Fruit World, Queensland). If only our supermarkets would just take out all the junk in the middle aisles and fill that space with fruits from around the world, man would we see some wild stuff.
I am going to NY end of July and I am GOING to find Jay(Jason?) and try Durian for the first time!! thank you Kimberly!
Hi Kimberly,
It was a pleasure to meet you last night before your flight to LHR at ORD. I am so pleased to learn about your blog, as I need lots of encouragement to stay on a path of clean eating for my health, of which I have many issues. I have many good intentions but sometimes stray. I knew there was something special about you when I saw your amazingly bright, clear eyes, skin and hair, and you are a walking testament to the commitment you have made to your health.
I have a very hard time eating out anymore, knowing the poor quality of food that is presented to us. I will read through your archives to learn how you deal with these problems and to help me on my path to better health.
I have a feeling that meeting you was not totally coincidental. I am struggling to eat to nourish myself the best I can, and am always trying to learn.
Wishing you the best and hoping I will have the opportunity to talk with you again.
Hi Kim,
I am from Malaysia and we have lots of durian which we call the ‘King of Fruit’. It is so delicous and you will find It in abundance during durian season. There are also different grades and type of durian. The story about people getting killed by durian dropping are so not true, well at least not in my country. Do come over to Malaysia to experience the exotic tropical fruits (coconut included), beautiful islands, beaches and mountains.
Nice video kim
I appreciate seeing sites that comprehend the worth of providing a prime useful resource, his help to make this website worth coming back to for even more info,2
