LA to me is a combination of the wonderful nature all around (desert and all!) and of course the obvious and enormous entertainment aspect of the city. What is so interesting to me is that most people I meet here are either really into the natural elements and ocean, OR are highly involved in the entertainment world and sometimes seem to be oblivious or don’t really pay attention to some of the natural wonders around.
I enjoy the balance of both! I love the trees and flowers, and interesting plants, like exotic fruits! I love being able to pick scrunchy looking natural lemons from the local trees in all the various shapes and sizes nature created them in, and being able to go down to the ocean every evening to watch the sunset.
But I do enjoy aspects of the entertainment world here, of course, which is part of what I do. On Monday night I went to the premiere for the film Going the Distance. It comes out Sept. 3rd. It was great and you should go see it! Very relatable and real!! I loved it and thought it was adorable. Since a lot of the movie takes place in New York, seeing the scenery really made me miss it!
PS: If you scroll down you might notice I wore the same outfit to the Emmy’s party the night before. :) Oops! I just moved into a new apt. in Santa Monica and I couldn’t be bothered to go through all my stuff and find my dresses and other clothes. Hee hee….our secret!! :) Very NOT Hollywood I guess to be seen at two events in the same outfit!! (gasp!)
I have to say I thoroughly enjoy the drum circles down at Venice Beach. I love percussion of all types, especially since my long journey through Africa where I could hear drums everywhere I went!
Plus I love seeing people like this um Native American-eque (?) guy!! :)
Rock on my friends!
Life is so interesting! I am taking in my new surroundings, and I am starting to really love it here!! There are always positives and negatives to anywhere you go, but there is so much beauty around everywhere in creation if we pause to feel it.
Have a great rest of your week!! Keep seeing the beauty all around… and in each other- we are all the ONE.
Love,
Kimberly
Hi Kim!
Glad you’re enjoying LA, I used to live in southern CA as a kid and can relate to what you’re saying: we had a lemon tree in our backyard, did weekend trips to the desert and of course spent maaaany memorable days at the beach. I’d love to go back!
I have a question for you concerning green smoothies…I’ve been having them a few times a week for about 1,5 years now. A while ago I tried adding in some chlorella..at first it was going ok but about a month after starting it I got soooo nauseous after having a smoothie that you wouldn’t believe it. I felt like staying off the smoothies for a while, but started gradually again, with just some spinach + banana, nothing fancy or exotic. They tasted more or less ok, so today I tried adding in some wheatgrass powder and man it’s difficult to get that stuff down! What I wanted to ask you is have you ever come across an intolerance to chlorella/other green powders with your clients? Or do you think I should just tone it down and start adding just a fraction of a teaspoon of green powder and slowly increase? What’s really odd is that last year I went through a whole container of Spirulina and rather enjoyed it. Go figure!
Sorry for the long question, I really hope you are able to answer, I’m really frustrated with being so put off by the greens since everyone else seems to be so in love with their smoothies! Thank you!!!
Hi Annie, with the Green Smoothies you don’t need to add any green powders- stick to the fresh produce! If your getting nauseous from something, listen to your body and avoid it. You can try it again in a while. Your body and its sensitivities can change.

Hi, Kim! I have a question for you –
I’ve been doing my best to eat mostly raw and clean food in the past few weeks (including your smoothies, which I love and have recommended to lots of friends), but occasionally, I’ve indulged in non-clean food (i.e. I made a cheesecake for my husband’s birthday and had a slice).
Afterwards, I’ve not felt wonderful and have regretted indulging, but not so much that I don’t think I’ll occasionally have a non-clean dessert or special meal in the future. :)
Do you have any advice for how to best recover from those kinds of indulgences, if and when they happen? Are there any foods that will help clean out my system (I drank the detox smoothie the next day after cheesecake), or do you recommend just immediately going back to eating clean and raw, drinking the smoothies, etc?
I’m attempting to lose a little weight and tone up (I’m probably 4-5 pounds away from my goal weight), so it’s important that I get back “on message” in a good way, I think! Thanks for the advice. Love your blog!
Hi Jennifer!
If you binge, the next day you should drink a lot of water in the morning, and have hot water with lemon. Then the next thing (when you get hungry) should be the Green Smoothie. Then get right back on track!
Come visit me again soon :)
I agree with you. Balance is good. Most people are one or the other. I appreciate you and your knowledge.

Please tell me your thoughts on WHey protien
It is a derivative of dairy, so it is pasteurized and homogenized. I don’t use it.
Hey Kim nice sharing. Hope you really enjoyed the trip so much. More blog and keep in touch.
I love the drum circles. Glad you are enjoying LA.
Hi Kimberly,
I found your blog while searching some recipes and Oh my goodness, I’ve often seen you in the noon class!
Wishing you the best for your new life, but I hope I will get to see you again in class when you come to NYC.
