As a way of supporting you guys in YOUR Beauty Detox Solution I am going to start featuring questions I think would help others in our Beauty Detox community. I’m getting tons of questions, and I know it can be hard to pick through all the comments in the blogs sometimes. So I’ll be picking one of your comments here on the blog or Facebook, and will feature it verbatim. Don’t worry, I won’t post anything sensitive or personal of course, and I’ll only post your first initial. We’re all in this community to help and support each other!
If you haven’t signed up for the free newsletter be sure to do so right now (over to right), as we are sending out a newsletter very soon (the first in a while!). Don’t miss out! Also the next LIVE Q & A Chat on Facebook will be on June 21st at 9:30 EST. I’ll be answering your health and beauty questions live! We are conducting it in the evening this time, as last time I knew some of you were at work. See you there!
Here is the first featured question:
hi! I am currently a college student who is also a waitress and find it VERY hard to follow the diet plan..I am always on the go and in a pinch to eat the foods you suggest…i also am on a tight budget/ feel weird buying what most people consider such “out there” foods and bringing them back to prepare in front of my 4 other college roommates. Just curious what your thoughts were and if there was certain small important things I could do to at least start to help my body rid itself of toxins. I really am interested in living a more holistic lifestyle, but right now its very hard!
– H
Dear H,
Remember the idiom “Don’t miss the forest for the trees?” In other words, don’t get so focused on the details (trees) and intricacies of the plan so you miss the big picture and the main point (the forest), or in this case, the overall Beauty Detox philosophy.
The core of the program is about freeing up Beauty Energy to continuously cleanse our body, rejuvenate our skin, help lose weight easier, strengthen our immune system, grow younger, and increase our energy. Those of you that have read the book now know that a great deal of our energy is taken up by digestion, so we need to make to make digestion as efficient as possible to redirect as much energy as possible to the above beauty and health functions, to help us meet our goals.
Who said if you can’t find unpasteurized miso paste or raw tahini that you can’t apply the overall principles?? Use sea salt instead of miso, or skip some of the recipes. It is up to each of us how much of the philosophy we want to apply with specific foods. Some of us might have enough time to make Probiotic & Enzyme Salad every week, some of us might decide to just buy raw sauerkraut. Some of us want to make the GGS every day and make more salads, and some of us are just making a better effort at better Beauty Food Pairing combos… and that’s fabulous! You are still improving and are better off then you were before, when you indiscriminately ate anything in any order!
If you stop eating fruit for dessert and try to have more salads at the beginning of dinner, if you try to separate starches and protein when you can, if you started taking probiotics and know what they are now, if you cut back on dairy…you are still on your Beauty Detox Solution path! Forget about the specific foods, and know that they will fit in when/if it is right for you. But the point is now you have more knowledge, which you can apply in varying ways!
Here are 4 easy ways to apply your Beauty Detox Solution right now- no matter what situation you are in:
1)Try to limit all liquids with meals. Liquids dilute digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid in the stomach and make digestion slower and harder. Hydrate in significant quantities between meals.
2) Only eat fruit on an empty stomach, and never for dessert. Remember the Ferrari analogy? Fruit digests very quickly out of the stomach, and if we eat it after heavier foods it may cause a “traffic jam”, and we may become bloated and we may create more toxicity in body, in the form of fermented (rotted) matter.
3) Try to keep protein and dairy out of your mornings. We’re in cleanse mode at that time and our bodies haven’t started digesting food yet…forget calorie counting. This is about cleansing your body on a daily basis. Having animal protein twice or more a day- ie an omelet in the morning, then chicken at lunch and dinner, is too acidic (aging). If you like eggs have them later in the day. Instead, have the Glowing Green Smoothie, or if you can’t have that try the suggestions for Blossoming Beauty. Also, fruit followed a bit later by oatmeal, or by almond milk and a quality granola is not “wierd.” If you can find gluten-free bread, have a piece of that with some avocado. Again, that isn’t too hard or weird!
4) At lunch and dinner try to separate your proteins and starches. Have one or the other. Simpler meals with fewer food groups digest easier. For example, at a restaurant order fish with veggies or brown rice with veggies but not fish with brown rice. You can also try making my tabouli salad recipe to save some money and eat greener!
We can all do these 4 things right now! Keep your eyes on the beautiful, radiant forest ahead…and don’t worry about each individual tree!
Love,
Kimberly

Hey Kim, thanks for this post and for your plan to continue answering reader questions on your blog. As a longtime vegan, I was wondering: Since beans and lentils are more starch than protein, and therefore combine better with starches than proteins (I understand that they still aren’t an optimal beauty food because of their inherent miscombination), are nuts, seeds and fermented soy products like tempeh really the only things that vegans have to worry about combining with starches? It seems like those are the only true proteins in a vegan diet in terms of food combinations. True?
Also, for Blossoming Beauty, if we do the millet toast breakfast instead of the raw rolled oats sometimes, is it a good idea to eat it with coconut oil or avocado as the fat instead of the butter that you mention in the book?
Yes to both!
Thanks for these practical, easy steps, Kimberly! The food combining stuff seemed overwhelming, but you laid it out so simply here!
One thing I’m a little confused about is fermentation. When we’re talking about raw sauerkraut, fermentation is a good thing, but fermentation is bad when we pile fruit on top of other food. What is the difference? Thanks! xxoo
Hi Ginger, I know it sounds a little confusing. Esp. when you consider the soy products like tempeh which are fermented are good! Long fermentation processes involved in creating wine, creates alcohol. Excessive and premature fermentation created from eating fruit after cooked food, early in the digestive tract, is also not ideal. There is some fermentation created as part of the natural digestive processes. And when foods are cultured to create healthy bacteria in the fermentation process, that is a positive effect. This is because In this case it isn’t “rotting” but allowing probiotics to proliferate, so in other words nurturing forth something that is positive and healthy.
Hi Kimberly,
I just found your blog and love it. I have a question..I have been to multiple doctors including ayurvedic, acupuncturists..etc. who have told me my spleen is weak and I don’t have enough fire in my body to digest raw vegetables at this time. Can you make the GGS with steamed greens until the body becomes stronger or how do you adapt the detox for people who don’t do well with raw vegetables yet?
Thanks!
Alex
Hi Alex, from my studies in India and w/Chinese and acupuncturists here in States, their training in predisposed to believe that cooked foods always digest better. Think about it- what traditional Indian or Chinese dishes are cooked? None! At the very least, they are steamed.
You have to do what feels right for you, but raw vegetables blended, with their enzymes intact are easier on the digestive system then eating raw vegetables plain. You can take digestive enzymes before as well. But since I don’t know your history, conditions specifically, again you have to listen to what feels right to you.
xx
Kimberly, thank you for these tips! Three quick questions:
(1) After a meal, how long should someone wait before drinking liquids?
(2) Is it okay to drink liquids with the smoothies?
(3) After eating fruit, how long should someone wait before eating another food group?
Thanks again!
After eating, ideally wait at least half an hour, or 45 min-1 hour to start drinking large quantities of liquids. Wait 25 minutes after fruit to eat other foods.
Thank you, Kim! This is just what I needed to get back on track! I’ve been doing my GGS but needed an extra kick and this what is!
*Thank you, Kim! This is just what I needed to get back on track! I’ve been doing my GGS but needed an extra kick and this was it!
Hello! I’ve loved reading the blog and watching your videos online! And I’m getting your book for my birthday!
I have a somewhat serious question. A couple of years ago, I lost my period because I rapidly lost too much weight. I slowly put on more pounds (lots of avocadoes and nuts!), and now, my doctor says that I am at a good weight, but I still haven’t gotten my period back. They want to put me on hormone-replacement therapy, but I don’t want to take pills! It seems so unnatural. I know you aren’t a doctor, but do you have any ideas for making it come back using nutrition? I know a lot of other health-foodies have the same issue with their periods (I am an avid food-blog reader, haha).
Hi Rach,
You do have to consult with your doctor, but also be sure to have loads of chlorophyll-containing greens, which has been associated with hormone-balancing properties. Be sure you’re getting enough good fat in your diet, especially omega fatty acids.
Some people believe when your period fully vanishes you are free of toxins, but I wholeheartedly disagree with that opinion. One’s period may lighten and cramps may go away, but not the full period itself.
hi kim, wondering why you advocate against protein in the morning?? don’t all nutritionists agree that’s it’s the key to a good day of health?
and i don’t mean animal protein. typically i make a smoothie with vegan proteins… thoughts?
HI LB- I explain it in depth in The Beauty Detox Solution. My program is not about calorie counting, but keeping our bodies cleansed, and growing more beautiful, healthy and youthful day by day. There’s a lot of recycled information out there, but people in general aren’t becoming more beautiful, healthy or youthful are they?
i don’t count calories but have always been a believer in protein in the a.m. – looking forward to receiving your book this week to learn more about your approach. thanks for replying!
I am very underweight now due to depression-anxiety-IBS-and past orthorexic tendencies. I need to gain weight so I’m counting calories (hate that). I have no hunger cues and always full (very low stomach motility and poor digestion). Not a vegan. I am interested in this because it seems healthy (I guess the meal plan is in the book?). But I really need to gain weight. I do eat 6x a day. Wish I had goood mealplan to follow to gain backhealth, viatality, and passion for life.
Hi Kim
I have just read your book and have started implementing some of the Beauty Food ideas. My issue is with the smoothie. I live in Perth Australia, and although it is sunny and beautiful MOST of the year here, right now it’s chilly. And since central heating doesn’t exist here, it’s quite cold in the house in the morning. I’ve started drinking hot water and a lemon before breakfast, but downing a cold smoothie is just not appealing!
Do you have any warm breakfast food suggestions that will go wtih the second phase of your eating plan?
Would love a response from you! Thanks xxoo
by the way..it says in your book there are some “beauty products” on your website..but i cannot seem to find them..
See my response in the FAQ blog!
Hi Kim!
Thank you so much for that pick-me-up!
I have just read your book and love it! I started the GGS before finishing the book (no Apple, pear, banana or cilantro but adding ginger and a whole peeled lemon) and I thought I would stick wit that during the blossoming beauty phase. I have been looking for the miso I need for the probiotic enzyme salad but now I learned I can use seasalt instead :) Didn’t know if the miso did more than “just” adding flavour.
Thank you for helping me improve my life!
Love
/Linda-Marie
Hi Linda-Marie,
Yes the miso is just for flavor. :)
You can do the GGS or the GGJ with no fruit, but can add stevia. Try it out!
xx
Not even lemon?
Will try it with stevia, thanks :D
So glad you asked this question. I have been doing the same thing in the first phase and wondered if it was ok. I love the smoothie for breakfast. and i can’t ever remember to soak my oats…lol.
thanks
Hi, I read your book and love it. I am 105lbs and 5’3. I want to feel more energetic and gain about 10 lbs of muscles with great tone. I started the green smoothies 2 days ago but am still eating regular after that. I feel faint without food in my system. My question is I have a 9 year old daughter, she sipped the green smoothie and didn’t like it. I want her to eat/drink better as well. I would appreciate if you can post a smoothie recipe that will be healthy yet delicious for a kid and some snacks that I can give to her. I love the way you help everyone. You are a wonderful person and I wish you the best always.
HI Jackie! Thank you so much!
Try the Rainforest Acai smoothie for her. I made it for my clients’ children and they love it. It has: unsweetened almond milk, unsweetened acai (in frozen smoothie packets), banana and/or dates. xx
Hi!
Since starting your program I have been loving the green smoothies, avocados, millet, oat groats and really yummy vegan food but I have a problem….
I’ve been doing the program about a month and about every three days I have intense sugar binges, like cravings I can’t stop and I go mad and eat way too much. It’s almost bordering bulimia I feel the binge cravings get so bad. I’ll do fantastic and feel awesome for a coulple of days and then BANG! Bread cravings or Oatmeal cravings or anything with sugar….It’s like we don’t eat enough carbohydrates or something. Help!
Have you been taking probiotics or any raw sauerkraut/Protibiotic & Enzymes Salad? Probitioc-rich foods are really important to help balance sugar cravings. I used to have the same thing.
I have the cravings too! Really, really strong.
Making my first probiotic & enzymes salad tomorrow.
Thanks for the question and answer :)
Thanks for your response! I don’t make the salad because I’m in the hot deep south and I’m afraid of bacteria. I buy a brand of fermented kim chi called rejuvenate foods that is awesome…I also drink alot of kombucha for the probiotics. Will keep pressing on but I’m really afraid this binge eating will become a problem! The cravings are MAD!!!
I’m experiencing the same thing, especially when I’m at work and feeling pressure or at night before bed. I’m pretty sure I’m dealing with candidiasis too which I’m scared if I can’t get over the sugar binges, I’ll never get past it and be able to move on to the next phase.
I love the Q&A, it is very specific. I’ve been looking for the “sick skinny” post you did on a client (as it relates to me) and couldn’t find it. Skinny people wants to be healthy, glowing and toned too. I appreciate all your time and effort in all that you do for us, blessings.
Hi Kimberly,
You may have heard about that current ehec epidemic in Europe… https://thewatchers.adorraeli.com/tag/ehec-europe-epidemic/
Bottom line is we cannot eat any raw stuff until they find out the root of the problem… can you approve of switching to organic frozen spinach for example? It’s a tough one, as at the moment they assume it comes from salads, cucumbers and/or tomatoes.. Also in general, if it’s hard to get fresh organic produce, how about bulk buying frozen organic veggies / berries etc?
THANKS a lot for your advice!!
:-)
wow… that is amazing Kim..
.it has really helped me. i have been on the diet for a week now but i sometimes cant help but miss the foods i used to eat.
but this time i eat them but combine them well..
am so glad you posted this because i thought i was doing everything wrong but now i know am on the right truck and will get to that stage i want to be.
i want to be a full vegetarian and have radiant beauty.
thanx again Kim x
Great, good job Brendah! Do your best to make the best choices you can in a given situation. And if you are going to eat “bad” or badly combine, at least have a big raw salad before, to help minimize the damage. ;)
xx Kimberly
Hey Kimberly,
I was wondering if you could share some ideas about traveling or going on short vacations (up to 7 days); do you make a green smoothie or green juice during shorts trips? What do you eat (during the True Beauty phase) when you dont have access to making a GGS or juice?
Thanks!
Hi Kim!
I am loving your book and also check your blog regularly, so I was excited to see that you will be answering readers’ questions along with doing live Q & A sessions. It is wonderful to feel so supported, thank you! : )
I would love to know how you handle entertaining larger groups of people who might not be into such healthy eating, for instance, if you host a family gathering or a bbq. Do you ever serve foods that don’t fit the principles outlined in your book? I know that you gave some great tips for how to stick to your diet at a bbq, but how would you go about hosting one yourself? And if you tell people you are having a special menu in advance, do they still come? haha
Hello Kim,
I just started my journey to a toxin free life style. Thank you so much!!!! I am new to all this and it would be helpful if I had a list of brands that I should buy. I went to whole foods and it was overwhelming. Which blender should I get? Which cleansing product? which pro-biotic product? I have never done a colonic before..I am kind of scared. In which facility should I get it done? Thank you for helping me get started….
hi kimberly!
i know you’re not a doctor, but i have severe bloating the second i eat food every day until the next morning (my stomach deflates at night). no matter what food i eat in the morning – and ive experimented with a lot including kale and other non traditional foods – from toast to protein shakes to even just fruit – i react to everything. it is life inhibiting. and the thing is, i do a lot of the things you and your book suggests. i do all the de-bloating things, i eat healthily, i exercise, and still the bloating persists. it makes me so self conscious. because that’s really all it is – just bloating. no other gross symptoms. oh except despite eating all the top beauty foods practically daily, my nails are cracked, my skin is dry, im anemic (though on iron supplements) and my hair is dry. it seems like im not absorbing anything. i already have celiacs disease and have tested negative to other food intolerances. i would be so grateful to hear any of your thoughts/opinions.
Hi Kate – I know this is an old post but I just wondered if you had found a solution to this problem? As I have the same thing!!! Been bloated every day for over 2 years :-(
Just wondered if you had heard of or tried the low FODMAP diet?
Thanks so much,
Claire
Hi Kim,
I just ordered your book and I can’t wait!! Do you have any diet advice to get rid of fibroids? also, if it’s not too much to ask, which school did you study nutrition at? thank you. I think you have a lot of knowledge.
hi – thanks for all the great info! Just finished your book and loved it.
I purchased my probiotics and digestive enzymes today. I’ve never taken either one. How many times a day should I take them AND should I take them with food or before food ?
thanks!
Stephanie
Hello Kimberly!
I am THRILLED beyond words by your program! I’m still waiting for your book to arrive in the mail, but I got started right away after reading half of your book in the store and then came home and read the majority of your blog (yes, you read that correctly) – I was that blown away! I’m fascinated by all of this and am very excited to learn more!
Some questions:
1. On a sliding scale, where would you put evaporated cane juice (eci)? I see it’s a common ingredient in the foods I enjoy. I know you recommend stevia first (and I’m very eager to try your date syrup, too!) and Agave is the worst on your scale, other than refined sugar, of course – but I’m curious about how ecj affects the body, etc? Is it worse than agave? The same?
2. What about tapioca for dessert? Is there a recipe you could recommend? I saw one that had corn starch, but I figured that any corn ingredients would be bad? Is it possible to just make it with almond milk, vanilla extract and the soaked tapioca beads?
Thanks so much!
A.
I keep trying to subscribe to your enewsletter for the last couple days and it keeps saying “an error has occurred go back and try again” ???
Dear Kimberly,
I have become a huge fan of your GGS – I have been drinking one each day for the last 6 months and feel wonderful! I was wondering if you could speak to the gluten debate. A show dedicated to gluten and the take-home message was that if you do not have a gluten allergy it is actually worse for you to eat gluten-free. I find all the conflicting information confusing!
Thanks!
Laura
great post kim for healthy life
Hi Kim,
I have attempted to look up this up on the internet without luck in finding an answer. I am going through the “Blossoming Beauty” diet and view the switch to raw foods/vegan diet as a long term process. But I am not sure if I should be following this one or the next stage. I am assuming I have candida because I have Tinea Versicolor (over abundance of type of normal fungus – very very mild case) on my skin (under breasts and a little on my back. I do not have the adverse reactions to fruit (gas, etc) but have searched and found that Yeast and fungus are kind of interchangable so I assume I have candida. The book is unclear about how you know if you should be following Blossoming Beauty and for how long. Can you tell me your feedback on this? Just thinking about the fungus and candida makes me itchy all over. Thanks, Kim from the Bay Area
Did the blossoming beauty stage help get rid of the tinea? I am in the same boat and was about to try it to help get rid of it. I hope it works! I figured I would start with a month in that stage before moving on to the next phase.
Hi I just found your book…AMAZING!!you make so much sense I read it in a day…. I hope you could answer a few questions for me ..I am from NYC is there still a way to have apts with you in person? Also what are your thoughts on food sensitivities testing and the blood type diet? Thank you so
Much and so excited for your reply… Have an amazing day
I’m very excited about your book (ordering it today)…I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of years now and appreciate your commitment to your readers! Last time I wrote to you, I was preparing to become pregnant with my first child and you provided some excellent nutritional advice. I am now pregnant with my second child and have a question I hope you can provide me with some guidance on: Ever since I became pregnant with my first child, I have been suffering with hormonal acne. It actually became worse during the year I breastfed him. Now that I am pregnant with my second baby, the area to either side of my chin and mouth is scarred red and still has daily breakouts. I’m horrified when I look in the mirror and it has been devastating to my self-esteem (shallow, I know!). I don’t eat beef or pork or drink dairy milk and haven’t in over two years. I probably consume more sugar than I should because I am naturally thin and spoiled by not having to watch my weight…but I also eat a lot of greens and love fruit. I would sincerely appreciate any guidance and advice you can provide that may help me clear my skin or at least attempt to moderately control the acne by methods other than medication. Thank you, Kimberly!
Hi Kimberly,
Thanks for the book, the food combining is really helping with my digestion. I am underweight and very active so I am finding it difficult to get more calories in my diet. I am trying to cut out more animal protein and include more nuts and seeds to get the calories I need.
1) Can different seeds and nuts be combined?
2) Do you soak hemp seeds? Your recipe does not suggest to but I thought you were suppose to soak seeds.
Thanks!
Hi Kim, I have been taking an enzyme/probiotic combination pill. Is that ok or should I take 1 of each? Your book says to take a probiotic in the morning and night and then an enzyme before each meal, but the instructions for my combo meal say to take 1 before each meal. Just wanted to make sure I was getting the most out of my new lifestyle. Thank you for book. I have been following it as much as I can and I feel soo much better:)!
Also, can i eat raw saurkraut found at my health food store?
I meant combo pill:)
Hi Kim,
I just started drinking the GGS but after I drink it it upsets my stomach. Is this normal? Is there something that I can add that would stop this.
Thx
Hi Kimberly,
Love your amazing, informative book!
I am unable to sign up for your newsletter. I recieve a message stating “error” every time.
Also, about a week before my period I crave carbs like white pasta intensely. Any suggestions on how to curb this?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi
This nice way explaning
HI Kim
Just fiished the book and I have 2 questions
1) Can I just start doing the GGS in the am without any other of the suggestions on the plan other than trying to eliminate processed foods and food pairing some in the ways you suggest?
2) How many hours after lunch or dinner is it ok for me to have fruit if at all?
Thanks- these are just a few small steps I want to try at first
Hi Kim!
Your book is wonderful and I’ve been so inspired to change my diet! I’ve been making the glowing green smoothie as well as some other recipes…
My question stems from the safety of raw food such as raw sauerkraut and honey since I’m breastfeeding still. I plan to have more children, God willing, and breastfeed but wanted to see if you have any suggestions as to how my diet should be while breastfeeding or pregnant
Also, I know most doctors encourage a SAD diet for babies on solid foods and as parents we are encouraged to give them dairy and meat… If I wanted to have my daughter eat a more raw diet, where can I look to make sure I’m feeding her well?
P.s. My one year old loved drinking the green smoothie :)
Hello Kimberly, I wish to know which whole food vitamin supplement you recommend? I am also taking Rainbow light all-zyme double strength digestive enzymes – your thougths on those? Thank you!
Do you have any specific suggestions (brands, exactly what to look for / what to avoid, etc.) when purchasing enzymes, and probiotics? I have read your book and reread the part about supplementing with probiotics and enzymes but it is still a bit unclear about what kind to buy. Thanks
p.s. would kombucha tea be a good substitute for the raw sauerkraut/P&E salad…sometimes I get so sick of it when I just think about having to eat it again? lol
Thanks :)
Ania
Like many others, I enjoyed the book and all the great info, however it would be helpful if you could tell us some of your favorite of the supplements.
I know you mentioned Dr. Ohhira for probiotics on your blog, but what about the digestive enzymes and the Mag-Oxy supplements. Thanks
Hi Kimberly,
I really appreciate and admire all the hard work you have done. My question is with green smoothies and juices. I find that when I consume them I become incredibly thirsty, even if drinking tons of water. Even putting lemon in water seems to give me a weird reaction. I would really like to continue incorporating them, but find it too difficult. I wanted to know if you had ever heard of this or what your thoughts are?
Thank you
Hi, Kim
you are so smart. I love all your suggestions they are so helpful to me. Im trying to lose belly fat, can you please help me with that issue? Can u please suggest a meal plan for me? what foods should i eat that can help me lose belly fat?
Thanx,
Lin
I have learn a few just right stuff here. Certainly price bookmarking for revisiting. I surprise how much effort you place to create such a wonderful informative web site.
How do you dry the nuts once you soak them. I purchased a raw sunflower and pumpkin seed mix; soaked them for 24 hours; laid them out to dry in a styrofoam plate….they sprouted! How do I dry the nuts, please?
Using nuts like almonds or hazelnuts shouldn’t have a problem- you were using seeds, which obviously given the conditions to flourish decided to sprout! You shouldn’t need to soak SEEDS for 24 hrs. You can always give them a quick rinse if you’d like, but keeping them wet will make them sprout. Hope this helps!
hi, i have been following your book for over three months. i lost wt immediately and love all your information. my problem is that i have lost too much wt i am 5’3 and now weigh 100 pounds. what should i eat to gain wt but still feel great? i only want to gain 5 pounds? more nuts and avocados? how much? i eat one avocado a day and 1 ounce of almonds . I appreciate your help thanks
Hi Kimberly,
I have just recently discovered your book (it was mentioned in Who magazine in Australia) & am maybe a 1/3 of the way through. Fabulous & am very inspired & motivated – just what I needed & thanks so much for getting this important info out there!
I used to not eat meat actually & then read that blood type diet book &, as I’m blood type O, I started eating meat again! Apart from that, I had really let things slide for the last few years & had gained quite a bit of weight (I’m in my early fifties) & was having issues with heartburn & reflux (I know – my system was/is way to acidic!)
Anyway, have just started with the GGS & the water/lemon in the mornings, in the last week or so, & endeavouring not to combine proteins & starches (finding it a little hard not to drink with meals, so working on that one!), & obviously just not eating as much shitty stuff, which I was doing quite a bit before.
I’m finding really good results so far, & have barely started!! I was a big coffee drinker, but haven’t had one now for a couple of days & didn’t get that normal sick withdrawal headache (gotta be due to the smoothie!) & feel very balanced after drinking the GGS – sort of like I don’t need anything for quite a long time, & can go well into the afternoon, before I feel like eating something! Incroyable!
I’ve dropped a couple of kilos already & I know it will keep happening! As well, I’m starting to feel an aversion to meat & possibly dairy a bit as well…pretty amazing, as I’ve only just begun this process!
A few of quick questions (hopefully you haven’t been asked them a million times!) – do I put the spinach stalks in with the leaves in the GGS? And also Romaine lettuce is not familiar to me – I’m wondering if it’s called something else here in Aus?…the photo you have of it, looks like Butter lettuce (which is what I’ve been using).
And my last question is – the quanities you give in the recipe for the GGS seem to make a big amount (the blender flask is filled to the brim) & I’ve just been having one tall glass in the mornings, so there’s lots left over for the next few days. Is this typical – people surely don’t drink the whole amount in one hit do they?…or perhaps my blender isn’t powerful enough to really smooth it down to a more condensed quantity (unfortunately can’t afford the Vitamix right now – working towards that!) Anyway, just a few little things that came up for me.
I really feel like The beauty Detox Solution is THE health book for this time, so my thanks once again Kimberly – a fantastic contribution! I’ve been putting the word out in various ways, so might score a buddy to do this with, which would be fun :):)
In the US butter lettuce is not the same plant as Romaine lettuce. Romaine tends to be stronger tasting, producing longer leaves and a more compact, tighter head. In the US some Jews use it as “Karpas”, the bitter herbs, at the Passover seder. Look in a US based heritage seed catalog online for pictures of the plant. I have no idea of the nutritional comparisons of the two varieties.
Hey! I’m in Australia too and I know it as ‘cos’ lettuce. I wondered the same thing when I read the book!
I know this was an old post, but hope it helps someone!
Claire
Hi Kim,
What is the best thing to do after you make a mistake and eat either a bad food pairing or an unhealthy meal?
Thanks!
There is obviously a bundle to know about this. I assume you made certain nice points in features also.
thank you for this article. It helped me remember the suggestions. I have a question tho…I am afraid of eating the probiotic salad. Leaving it out to ferment makes me feel like I’ll get sick from it.
Also, is it possible to gain while following your diet? I am having a hard time losing and don’t know why.
I made the probiotics, sterilized jars and lids. When I opened the first jar and ate my 1/2 cup within a few minutes I had these big huge red itchy welps from head to toe. I called my doctor and he said it was a histamine reaction. Keep rubbing Benadryn cream all night and he said to take Claritin to dry up the histamine in my body. It took 3 days to finally be rid of it all.
So, unfortunately as much as I loved it, I am terrified to eat any fermmented cabbage every again.
That’s a good thing!! Our bodies heal from the inside out… You were cleansing and suppressing that sticks the problem deeper inside of your body. Try again and maybe go a little slower to avoid detoxing so fast. Try not to use the drugs/creams that are harmful to our bodies.
Hi i love this way of eating and my energy is up but i lost 5lb and
can’t afford to lose any more, i’m 5’3″ 103lb.
I am eating nuts and avocado each day, what do you suggest?
Thanks for inspiring me to eat well
I started my 2013 with a healthy lifestyle. Acceptance and getting in fit. Not likely achieving the 6 packs but enough to keep me going through out the day and time with my family. And so I did Detoxification. I tried LifeBotanica and it works well with me. From my hectic schedule, polluted environment, overloaded work, my body starts to worn out and my immune system seems like falling into pieces. My friend (living at New York) suggested me this great way of Detoxifying. It consist with special Herbs that have been used for centuries to cleanse, purify, soothe and support various body organs and systems include: Milk Thistle, Dandelion Root, Cascara Sagrada, Echinacea, Yellow Dock, Mexican Sarsaparilla Root, Burdock Root, Golden Seal, Cleavers Herb, Rose Hips, Carrot Oil, Aloe Vera, Slippery Elm, Nettle, Couch Grass, and Ginger Root.
It works well with me and I’m sure it will with you too.
Coffee is a brewed beverage with a distinct aroma and flavor, prepared from the roasted seeds of the Coffea plant. The seeds are found in coffee “berries”, which grow on trees cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in equatorial Latin America, Southeast Asia, India and Africa. Green (unroasted) coffee is one of the most traded agricultural commodities in the world.”

Where is the recipe for “Veggie omelet made with two organic eggs” that is listed on page 79 of Beauty Detox Foods?
Hi, I just finished reading your first book ad while I was on it I read about candida and it just made me curious because I have many of the problems listed there. I suspect I might have Candida because I get chronic bloating (after eating and depending on what I eat), constipation, heartburn, and a few time ago I had something like a small eczema in my arm which quickly disappeared with the help of my dermatologist. I had an food sensibility test and yeast and candida albicans (among other things like honey, beans, etc) appeared in the results of what I should not eat.
My problem is that in your book it suggest staying in phase 1 at least three months which I find very hard since there is only one breakfast option and I am completely clueless on what else I can/should have. Besides, I live in a small town where there are not many options of healthy foods it is really hard to get them. After looking everywhere the closest to raw organic oat groats I could find was Bob’s Red Mill steel cut oats (not 100%gluten free tho).
I really need your help. I’ve been to many doctors and even nutritionist (which suggest I eat dairy, many fruits and stuff that I know are not good for me right now after reading your book)
Hi, I was wondering how long should I stay in each phase? One month? And if so should I follow the same recipes every week?
Hi Joana, It is best to do what feels natural in your body. You can switch up the recipes so you don’t get board with them. Once you feel you can move forward than you can try the next phase, see how you feel after a month.
