Saturday was the last day of shooting on the film I have been working on in New Orleans as the nutritionist, and last night I left the city, which has been my home since mid-April. I’ve had such an amazing time I’ve had the last few months, and forged such a connection to the city and it’s people. I’ve put together a little picture album to share with you, of my favorite people and places in NOLA:
The French Quarter was literally across the street from my hotel, and I love its architecture, music and energy. How could you not?
Since my hotel room was on the 47th floor, below was my view of the Mississippi River, taken from my hotel window.
Here we are at Jazz Fest, which was so much fun. I also heard a lot of jazz throughout my stay, as live music is such a big part of life in New Orleans! It has been great working with Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan, who are not just clients but dear friends. They are incredibly nice and down to earth, and working for them was truly a dream job!
I found a great pottery studio on Magazine Street in Uptown (where I pretty much spent all my time) called Hands of Clay. If you live in NOLA I highly recommend taking a class there! I had never worked with a potter’s wheel before, but the teachers are great- especially mine! Her name is Jacqui Lincoln and she let me throw huge blocks of clay I really had no business working with. :) It was so fun to talk to the ladies in class for a few hours every Wed. night. I miss my pottery friends already!
Here’s Jacqui, who’s very talented at ceramics!
I also found a yoga home, which is hugely important to me. It is a wonderful yoga studio called Wild Lotus Yoga. If you are passing through or live in the city, you must go by!
Here are the two teachers that touched my heart, and that I will never forget. I took their classes faithfully every week, 2 classes each for both of them. I LOVE their classes, and I treasure them as yogis, teachers, and wonderful human beings. On the left is Amanda Rubinstein-Stern and on the right is AC Lambeth. I can’t recommend them enough!!!!! Amanda’s classes are very alignment focused and AC’s are like riding a beautiful flowing wave. Saying goodbye to my new yoga home was a very sad day, but alas, unattachment is a (hard) yogic teaching.
Um, yeah, you could say I really made my hotel room my home. How does one live in a hotel room for almost 3 months, you might ask? Well I decorated it like an apt., and the walls were lined with mini fridges!
Here’s Christine at the Skin Studio, which is next to Wholefoods on Magazine Street. She gives great facials! I had a few while I was there, as I was in WF every day and her relaxing office would beckon to me. And I like her Derma Potion natural facial SPF 30 sunscreen.
After many, many good times, Glowing Green Smoothies, walks in Audobon Park, growth, new friends, new adventures, and falling in love with a new city…
It’s time to say goodbye for now New Orleans! But I’ll be back for sure. :)
And now a new adventure starts, and I have a very exciting summer ahead! I am really happy to enjoy my home in NYC for now, even if it is for only 5 days before I move again. But life is a flow, and as AC would say, “surf the waves of life.”
Love to all,
Kimberly
Goodbye for now Kim! New Orleans and Louisiana embrace the light you’ve brought to our area.
Still sharing the Beauty Detox principles…
Take care and God Bless!

Thanks Angie! Love NOLA and I’ll be back!
I love these kinds of posts. So touching… “Surf the waves of life.” I’ll keep that in mind :-)
Yes that’s right. We always have a choice: see it like we’re surfing, or get pulled down into the swirl!
Thanks for this Kimberly! I had a really stressful weekend, and it really made me smile to see my old stomping grounds again. Thank you–I needed that!
Great! NOLA is pretty special!
Hi Kimberly!
It was great running into you in New Orleans! I hope you received the picture I sent to you. As always, thank you for everything you do for others…you are truly the light of the sun.
Tamara
I love your photo album. Thanks for sharing it with us. I’ve gotta check out that sunscreen. It’s so hard to find a good natural one.
Hey Kim,
You mention that you are specific and discerning when looking for a “yoga home” [such a cute phrase, I know exactly how it feels to have an environment, community, and teachers you love to practice with and are sad to leave!].
I was curious as to what you look for and what styles you do.
I did Ashtanga/vinyasa for years then recently got pretty hardcore into Bikram. Like the emphasis on alignment and the spine but I find it’s too taxing on the body and I’m bulking up.
In your yoga videos your alignment is symmetrical and perfect and I can tell you have a very strong and bendy back so I guess that’s why I am asking.
Rachel
Thanks Kim! My son goes to Tulane right across the street from Audobon Park. I’ve passed along your recommendations and he’s totally looking forward to trying them. He loves NOLA too. You can’t help but be enchanted with that town.
Hi, thanks for sharing those lovely memories. Yeah, you are in NYC, I am in Queens. Love the pic of the green smoothies in the refridge. The only change I am able to make after 2 months is taking the green smoothies, which taste great. I am unable to do it all the time. I also lose weight easily and am 105 to begin with, so I can use 10 lbs. I am not feeling more energetic and my skin is a mess. So I think I am doing something wrong. First I can’t find organic whole spinach, is using baby spinach leafs ok. Second I find romaine hearts, is that different from heads? I want more energy and clear skin, I can’t even find organic whole bunch kale. Help! Where do you buy from when in NYC? I would like to make more changes but finding the ingredients and the time to commit is not easy but I will keep trying. Is there anywhere on this site that I can find more recipes for meals and smoothies to be healthy and put on some lbs. I do have the book. Anyway, Can I meet with you and see how you make the smoothies? It would be like winning a sweeps for me. lol :) . Thanks for being so helpful and down to earth. If you decide to have win a day with Kimberly sweeps let me know.
HI Jackie,
Besides just making the smoothie, make sure you are practicing Beauty Food Pairing and Light to Heavy, and eating the Probiotic & Enzyme Salad every day, as well as implementing the cleansing recommendations I mention in Chapter 6. If your skin is off, there is something going on inside.
Review those sections in the book then check back!
xx
I started reading your blog a few weeks ago, and I SWORE I saw you in WF on Magazine St, but then thought I was probably wrong. Now I know I was right! So glad you loved NOLA :)
oh hilarious!!! You should have said hi. :)
wow nice moment
Good post kim and nice place
Hi Ms. Kimberly! I’m so glad you had the chance to experience my city and that you had a great time!!
Please do come back!! ^_^
Loved seeing you in pictures in New Orleans! And, of course, seeing the pottery studio. You have totally touched my life and already improved my health (I finally got your book). We will miss you on Wednesday nights, but have a great, adventurous summer. Thank you for all your words of wisdom and your obvious care and love for others.
Ann (pottery classmate)
Hey Ann!!! I miss you guys so much already. :)
I can’t explain how happy I am that I took the class and met you guys. It definitely happened for a reason!
Please keep in touch. Let me know how you do with your food adventures, and yes, wheatgrass on an empty stomach.
Love, Kimberly
Hi Kimberly
Am pregnant, and have felt better than ever since following your diet!!
I have three questions:
1) may I substitute a cucumber for the banana in the glowing green smoothie. I Feel that I am overdoing on bananas and I love the cucumber taste.
2) My probiotic and enzyme salad totally works, but does not taste right. Is there a specific kind of cabbage or am I doing something wrong.
3) Am going a a week vacation with NO WAY to make the glowing green smoothie or bring it along. What do you recommend as a drink that I could either pack or just an alternate plan?
Thanks
Betsy
I moved out of New Orleans at the end of June, so I just missed you there! Wow, and am now seeing this blog of yours for the first time, which is funny bc I’ve been a blog follower of yours since January. Anyway, It made me extremely NOLA sick. You’re absolutely right in saying New Orleans is a very passionate and energetic city. It’s infectious and it got me good. Once I’m finished doing what I need to do here back in Georgia, I’m on the first flight back to that ol’ soup bowl city!! It’s where my heart is. Thanks for such great blog post about New Orleans. It could always use love and positive support :)
I am impressed with your life experiences and how you got to where you are. I have been planning a career change toward nutrition / health counseling as I soon finish my present, unrelated career. Your book (_The Beauty Detox Solution_) was one of many, many books read this past few years. I want to find the most direct route to specific knowledge that will impact the people I help. Your story and how it synthesizes the science behind nutrition is inspiring.
