I love your GGS (and zucchini hummus – so yummy!) Also a huge fan of chia seeds – this looks delicious.

What time of day do you suggest having a protein smoothie? If we workout in the morning or afternoon, would it be good afterward? Thank you Kim – you’re awesome!!!

      Hi Kimberly-

I am entering a weight loss competition at my gym (Lifetime Fitness). The winner gets $5k. Based on their previous competitions, I think I can win. I am 6′-1″ at 225 lb and 30% body fat. Yuk. Very muscular but dont wont to lose muscle mass. I have 90 days to get to 175lb and 4% body fat. Any suggestions? I am going to follow your program including your protein shake.

Thank you! 🙂 The afternoon is a great time to have it. If you work out in the morning I would still have the GGS first thing, which also contains amino acids to help replenish from your workout. xx

Hey Kim! I love your book and program!!! I have been trying to follow your detox since October but lately I can’t drink the GGS! Does this happen sometimes and what should I do about it? Should I just have fruit or Millet products in the morning?
Thanks for all of your work!

    Dear Kimberly,

The green smoothies are wonderful! I “stumbled” upon your new book at the grocery store on Christmas eve, and treated myself to buying it. It is wonderful. I am 2/3’s through, and have been applying it. I’ve already lost 5 lbs within a month without a loss of energy.

I have been health conscious and have read health books for nearly 20 years, but your Beauty Detox Solution is like the “best of” of all I have read. You really put it all together in a practical way which is very readable.

    I have a few questions:

    1. Do you ever recommend fasting? Why or why not?

    2. I have noticed I go to the bathroom now more often at night. My gut feeling is that toxins are “knocking at the door”, giving me an uncomfortable feeling. If I have a 1/3 glass of water before bed, that seems to dilute the irritating feeling. What do you think of my diagnosis and solution?

    3. Will you ever be coming to the Denver area for a book signing?

Keep up the good work. I really like your blogs – you’re tackling some really good issues – –

      Hi Tybz,
Thanks so much for reaching out to me.
I am not sure about my book signing schedule- but we usually coordinate it in cities where I happen to be working on a film. Unfortunately, not too many films are shot in Denver!
My program is about long-term lifestyle changes, but fasting can be helpful to some to help break food addictions and get on a healthier path, assuming they fast and break their fast correctly.
Perhaps if you recently made more changes to your diet, it is detoxifying itself by expelling more waste (a great thing!). Not sure about what’s going on with you for night or your digestion schedule. Do you go in the morning too?
      xx

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I do think toxins are being eliminated, so I will grin and bear the uncomfortableness for now. I made your Delish Squash Bisque the other night for the whole family – really good. Thanks for the recipes. Since Denver seems unlikely, I’ll check your blog for your next visit to Chiang Mai! ~ ~

    Dear Kimberly,

Well, while I’m here, just a few more comments. My family has lived in Thailand since 1997 (we are in the States on Home Assignment this year). I could relate so well to your world travels, especially your visits to Thailand.

Yes, durian is wonderful! Yes, the fresh Thai fruits are lush and out of this world. It is too bad the Thai eat so much white rice. I’ve had some of the Northern Thai unprocessed rice and it is delicious.

Hopefully we’re returning back to Thailand this summer. If you’re in Chiang Mai please drop by!

Love the glowing green smoothies… One on my favorite recipies is

      1/2 avacado
      1/2 ripe mango
      2 cups organic spinach
2 pieces of kale (spine removed)
      water

      Thinking of adding Chia Seeds…

Question: In your protien shake where do you get the Acai berry juice and in what form. Any recommendation on brand to look for?

      Many Thanks KK

        Hi Kyra,
On a daily basis, I don’t add avocado to the GGS, as it is a fatty fruit and will slow down it’s cleansing affects. If you are really hungry in the morning, try the GGS then have some avocado half an hour later.

I use the frozen smoothie packets, which are flash pasteurized and I think better than using the juice, which is more pasteurized. xx

    Hi Kim!
I’m curious about your insights into birth control. I realllllly don’t want to go on the pill because of all of the hormones and health risks, but I’ve heard mixed things about copper IUDs.
I don’t want to do anything to harm my body or alter my hormones, but (other than condoms) what can I do for birth control methods? I’m not ready to have a child any time soon, and I want to not be afraid every time my long-term partner and I get intimate.

    Thank you for reading!!

I had never had any problems with my vagina until I got an IUD. I started getting reoccurring yeast infections, which in 38 years I have NEVER had. Then I got Bacteria Vaginosis. THIS is a horrid thing to have! I did a lot of research and found quite a few women complained of this problem had gotten IUD’s as well. I say look into it. I don’t take antibiotics and am a clean eater. It took MONTHS of abstinence, unfiltered apple cider vinegar, probiotics etc to help myself out. I finally feel about normal again.

I have had bacterial vaginosis for 6 months and I can’t seem to get rid of it. I have tried going to the OBGYN and getting some cream, several natural cures and have just started taking 2 vaginal probiotics {1 wasn’t working}. I just bought Kimberly’s book and am going to start next week. I am hoping this helps, but didn’t know if you could suggest anything. What did you do with apple cider vinegar?
Thank you for your help and congrats on getting rid of it!

      Hi Jackie,
The birth control issue is a large and involved one, and one I should probably do a post on.
I’m really not a fan of hormones and I think most all modern birth control methods may have detrimental affects to your body, despite them being deemed “safe.”
You can combine several methods too, such as taking your body’s basal temp every morning to get an idea when you’re ovulating, using condoms and/or a diaphragm, etc.
You have to do what you feel comfortable with your body and what’s realistic for your lifestyle. I will write more soon- and added it to the list of blog topics!
      xx

      Hi Kimberly,

Love this segment! I really look forward to all your segments/blogs! I have been following your book since October last year. I absolutely love it! It made transitioning into vegetarianism easy for me, and I love all your recipes! I just thought I’d take this opportunity to ask you a few questions. I’m 31 and have had some health issues, particularly in the last few years. I had some blood tests done about 2 months ago (recommended by my nutritionist) and what was most concerning in my results was low protein levels, but also high estrogen, very high copper, low zinc, low DHEAS and high cortisol. I am taking supplements to help rectify things, but have been told I need to either increase my animal protein to having it every day and at least twice a day, or supplementing with protein powders, none of which appeals to me. I have only just started transitioning into vegetarianism with the help of your book and prior to this I just ate a pretty standard diet of fruits, vegetables, chicken, fish, bread etc. I have never felt as though I was someone who didn’t ‘eat enough protein’, and maybe why I feel like it is possibly more to do with ‘how’ my body uses protein, rather than how much of it I eat? I’m no expert though! I would like to try and stick with your meal plans, as I really enjoy this food and just feel more grounded & happy overall when eating it. I do feel very confused, and obviously I just want to be completely balanced and healthy once again, and in my opinion, following your book will help me achieve this. However, I know people that don’t agree entirely with this type of eating. I made the decision to compromise by reintroducing animal protein 4x/week like your book suggests. I have been having hemp seed salads and hemp/chia seed smoothies a couple of times a week as well. I would just be so grateful for your opinion on this Kimberly, as the way you live your life is something I truly aspire too. It is my dream to one day have you as my nutritionist! Thank you for everything and especially for all the kind energy you bring to the world!

      Kindest regards,

      Julia xx

        Hi Julia,
Thanks for reaching out to me. Since I don’t know your full background or eating schedule, I can’t give you super detailed advice. I will say though that if you keep the greens in your diet, such as with the GGS, you can balance that with some animal protein if you feel that you need it at this time. Probably the best choice would be free-range eggs, as fish nowadays is so toxic and the land animals are more acidic. Do what feels right for you, and keep cleansing your body with probiotics and probiotic-rich foods.

Remember that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing, and as your body balances and strengthens you can keep adjusting your diet. xx

OMG- I was SO proud of myself about my teeth!! 8 years not going to the dentist and he said I was in the top 1%! I am completely convinced it has to do with my diet. When I was a teenager I had many cavities, and now my teeth are in perfect condition! That is another way that an alkaline-diet helps with your health. 🙂

One of the best commercial toothpaste out there that is easy to find is Tom’s of Maine. It is better than the other bigger brands, even though it isn’t completely perfect. xx

        Kimberly,

Could you please clarify this for me–from reading your book I thought fruit was to be eaten alone. Are acai berries not a true fruit? Could the same smoothie be made with other fruit such as bananas? I was trying to apply the suggestions from your book by having the GGS for breakfast but I was feeling very hungry and not sure how to fit in some protein (like hemp, flax, chia, or almond butter–not animal protein) but was not sure if I was properly combining. Does that mean something is wrong with me or does your body just adjust to the difference in eating? So just as the question posted above, when is the ideal time for this protein shake. So sorry to be “thick”–just trying to get this right. I must agree I have been a silent blog reader and magazine reader of health issues for many years and I have learned by far the most from you and your book. Thank you so much.

          Hi Annette,
          Thanks for reaching out!
Check out the Rainforest Acai Smoothie in the book and you will see that I discuss the issue there: acai is a fatty fruit, so it is slower to digest than high water fruits (like an apple), so that is why I combine it with protein and seeds.
Bananas are okay too b/c they have very little water and are slower to digest. xx

Hi Kimberly! I just purchased your book and am reading it as fast as I can, as it’s truly informative and enlightening :). Please tell me what you suggest as a substitute for bananas in your recipes (I’m allergic to them in raw form). Would it be safe to assume that some or most of my food allergies can be reversed if I follow a diet more closely to yours? My allergies have really worsened considerably in recent years and get in the way of my activities. It can be very frustrating, to say the least! I’m so ready to make some changes that will improve my health and strengthen my immune system. Thank you!

Diedre, I obviously am not the expert. But I did Dr. Junger’s CLEAN program and bananas are not allowed on that particular cleanse. I subbed fresh pineapple in the GGS and it was delicious. Just thought I would share.

Good for you! As you strengthen your immunity and probiotic levels in your system, and cleanse on a regular basis, inflammation in your system can reduce and I have found in my clients that many food and other allergies alleviate.

For the GGS, just leave the banana out completely and follow the rest of the recipe, or add a bit more romaine. You won’t even miss it! xx

Also, thanks for the almond milk suggestion. I had no idea that even the 0% milk I was drinking as well as my 4&1/2 year old had so much sugar. That 1 change has helped the bloated feeling I always had. Thank you so much for all of the super advice!! I plan to continue to follow you and only you. Please keep the great recipes coming, I look so forward to your e-mails. Will be buying your book today.

    Thanks again,

    Dear Kimberly,
I’ve been applying a lot of your tips, thank you so much!
I also love chia seeds and I’ve been eating your Chia Seed Delight regularly.
However, I don’t have acces to acai berries.
Are there any other berries that you would reccomend for this smoothie?
I don’t want to mess up food combining.
    Thanks!

      Good morning Kimberly,

I am looking forward to making the zucchini hummus since I am allergic to chick peas….I am also allergic to almonds. What can I use in the power protein smoothie other than almond milk?

Btw I love your book. My mother and I both follow it. I received it from a friend of yours in NJ, Linda S. I go to her for colon hydrotherapy and she speaks so highly of you I became a follower immediately! =)

      Have a great day!

    Hey Kim!!

I live in a place where it is extremely hard to find acai. The only thing I can seem to find is concentrated juice packs. Would this be OK for the smoothie?

Also, I usually work out in the evenings about an hour after supper. Would this smoothie be OK to drink then?

    Thanks,

      Hi Michelle,
No prob. on the acai. Just leave it out, and make it a vanilla-type shake with more cinnamon, or add 1/2 a banana (as an option) which is an okay fruit for reasons I list above in an earlier comment.

Yes you can have it after your evening workout as long as it’s not right before going to bed. It digests well. xx

    Hey Kimberly —
I will definitely be trying this smoothie, along with already drinking the GGS. I did have a rather personal question for you. I battled bulimia for eight years and have really done damage to my body from it. I drink the GGS daily and I try to incorporate your recipes into my day as well. Is there anything (other than the GGS) that you recommend to have every day to help nourish my body from the harm I did to it for so long? Thanks for everything you do.

      Hi Christine,
Thank you so much for reaching out to me and being open about your past. I am sorry that you’ve had to struggle with an eating disorder, but I’m so happy to hear that you are ready to nourish your body now.

It’s really important that you accept that you, Christine, are already perfect as you are, and there is nothing that you need do or a specific way to look to be loved.

Aloe vera juice may be soothing to your stomach lining, as bulimia brings up a lot of acids. Eat a lot of balancing and chlorophyll-rich greens and green veggies like broccoli.

Please keep in touch here and with the community. We support you!
      Love, Kimberly

    Hi Kimberly,
I love hearing what you have to say and agree 100%. I have very bad IBD, however, along with GERD, lactose intolerance, and migraines. As you know, my disorders have many food triggers. I’ve gotten to the point where there’s so little that I can eat. It seems like all I can eat is rice and certain gluten free foods – but I know this is not meeting my nutrition needs. I definately follow your food combining principals and that really helps. The thing is, whenever I eat basically most fruits and vegetables, my IBD really gives me problems. I’ve lost a lot of weight since I have to avoid so many foods. I don’t know how to bring health to my gutt. Any suggestions? I haven’t bought your book yet – so maybe the answers I seek are there. Thanks for all the effort you put into helping others! Sharon

      Hi Sharon,
Yes read the book, where I discuss a more wide range of foods and issues.
Instead of rice, you can incorporate more grains like millet and quinoa, which are higher in protein and minerals.

You should work in more probiotics and probiotic-rich foods to start building up your gut. A lot of my recipes might work well for you, such as the ones with chia seeds. Check out my blog on GERD as well.
After you read the book, let me know how you are progressing! xx

    Hi Kmberly.

I just want to tell a little story about the GGS.

I started drinking GGS a year ago, during last summer I got my mum drinking them aswell. Her husband, who has never been eating raw veggies was making fun of her at first. He accused her of falling for “silly healthtrends” all the time. I don’t know how but she got him to try GGS aswell and now he is hooked!

Ha has had big problems with pains in his legs, som much that a simple walk would be a big strain on him. How he drinks the GGS every day and his pains at totally gone, hin energy levels are a lot higher and he goes for long walks almost every day. He is absolutely sure the GGS is the reason and I am too 🙂

Although his diet is exatly the same as before, appart from the GGS, I believe it is a good start for him and even if he will never change anything else it’s so much better than it was before.

Thank you for the inspiration you give us to change our lifes for the better.

    Love
    /Linda-Marie

hey kimberly, that smoothie looks amazing

also i had a question about the GGS. i’ve been drinking it almost everyday for months and have had amazing results in every possible way (skin, mood, sleep, body, undereye bags, energy). but i’m trying to deal with my candida overgrowth right now and you suggested to me a while back that i cut out all fruit except green apple from my GGS. i really don’t like it without the banana, i think i need the banana for texture…

so i started blending just spinach, lemon and ginger. is that okay? i love it because it has a much thinner, more pleasant texture and spinach is so mild tasting. the celery really changes the texture for me. i love YOUR recipe for the ggs but without the fruit it’s a different story for me. is it okay to have my celery as a snack later in the day like with almond butter? thanks!

    Hey Kimberly!

First, I must applaud you for taking the time to respond to all of the comments listed above. I have learned a lot from reading and think it’s great that you provide continued support to your readers.

I am really in need of your help! I stumbled upon your book after receiving a Daily Candy link, and am very intrigued by your philosophy. I have not been a meat eater for a long time, and rarely eat fish, so being a vegetarian is not an issue for me. However, I have a horrible diet based on carbohydrates, crunchy snacks and sweets and diet soda . As I just turned 40 and had my first baby, I’m in a place where I’m really ready to change the way I’ve been treating my body for so long. I do have a few pounds to lose, but it’s not about weight loss necessarily, it’s more about my wanting to feel healthy.

I’ve purchased a Vitamix, gone to the health food store and gotten most of your suggestions, but I still can’t seem to shake the cravings of wanting to eat pasta and drink Diet Coke. I’ve been playing around with recipes but haven’t really begun following your suggested daily eating plan “cold turkey”. Is that what you would suggest?

Many thanks in advance for your insight!

    Aimee

    Hi Kim,

Question about the GGS, I have been drinking it for a month or two for breakfast. It keeps me more full than any breakfast food, my stomach has flattened out, less gassy. All around improved =). My question is I have been talking to my mom about it and she would love to try it, but she has a few health issues. Currently, she is on Coumadin which is a blood thinner, many of the greens would actually thicken your blood because the high levels of Vitamin K, so she actually should not consume the quantity of kale or spinach, any suggestions on a good alternative for her? She also had anal cancer in 2008-2009 and is in remission now. Because of that health battle she had really focused on her health and her diet, although her stomach and GI tract is still very sensitive and irritable, which is why I suggested the GGS to her, but we just are not sure how to implement it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Kimberly, I love your website, I just have a few questions – i’ve been incorporating your detox diet into my regime and have been eating your large salads at lunch and salad for dinner followed by your meals, with no snacks in between, but I’ve been getting flatulence and its quite uncomfortable, I don’t know why this is maybe I have trouble digesting foods? I haven’t been taking any sort of probiotic or digestive enzyme yet but i’m looking to buy some, I made your probiotic enzyme salad on wednesday and followed the instructions and kept it in the cupboard until today, but when I took out the top leaves I noticed what looks like a white coating of mould around the cabbage and it smells pretty funky, is this normal? should I still eat it?!

    Hi Kim!

I’m loving your book and am really excited to embark on the adventure of food combining. However, I’m newly vegan and was wondering how beans fit into the starch/protein classification. I avoid eating them for lunch, but have been adding them to my dinner salads as “protein”, along with nuts and seeds. I’m worried they’re more of a starch though- can I still count them as dinner protein sources?

Thanks so much for your inspiration!!!

Hi Kimberly! I completely love the BDS and your blog 🙂 I am following your program and feel fantastic with the most joyful energy 🙂 I would really love to thank you for that. I never used to have energy after a long day of work, but after my afternoon GGS serving (which I pack in a cooler with an ice pack, along with a BDS lunch) I am happily jamming out in my car during my 1 hour drive home! I notice such a difference in mood and energy without a doubt. I am breaking out but am sure it’s due to detox effects. I’m considering an enema or colonics even though I am eliminating daily, as I saw you recommend another reader with the same problem in a previous post. Also : I read that you’ve replaced flax with chia as your daily seed and was wondering how you’ve incorporated it, I could be wrong but I am not under the impression that you consume this smoothie everyday? Thanks so much 🙂 PS – you’re amazing!!!

I actually consume the chia pudding- a little almond milk, chia seeds, stevia (very simple) almost every day lately. My diet shifts, but that’s where I’m at right now.

I have a few questions I hope you can answer, I’ve been on your beauty detox diet for about two weeks now and have been having the smoothie for breakfast most days, when I don’t have time (I’m at uni and am lacking a good blender!) I have a green drink made with vitagreens powder and almond milk and water, then some fruit. For lunch I have one of your salads with nuts or avocado, and maybe some chia seeds soaked for a snack, then dinner I’ve been making your detox dinners.
Everything was ok at the beginning of the week – no problems, but for two days I’ve had (sorry about this) really loose bowel movements (and green coloured!) and a bit of an upset tummy, bloating and gas, and feel a bit “sick”. I What’s going on? I was wondering whether I am not eating enough protein with all the fibre?

I definitely have a sensitive stomach after I got a horrible food poisoning illness in Thailand last year so maybe I need to be taking probiotics and digestive enzymes?
I’m really disappointed because I really reaaallly want to be seeing amazing changes and I know your diet works but somethings up with my body as it’s not digesting them properly..

Thankyou in advance, and i’m loving your blog and tips – the macadamia and sundried tomato mash is delicious!

I’d love to see a whole post on eating for athletes. I find the plant based diet works great as my every day diet. However I’m still eating the energy gels and energy drinks while in prolonged exercise. I’d love to drop the gels/liquids but I find I need them to get through a 2+ hour exercise. Suggestions?
