Featured On Dr. Oz: 4 Drinks to Boost the Beauty of Your Skin, Hair and Nails

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAcKBV1LerU

kimberly snyder and dr. ozOn this segment of the Dr. Oz Show, I talk about some of my favorite beautifying drinks, which will increase the beauty of your skin, hair and nails from the inside out.

Regular readers will probably guess what my “hero” beauty drink is: The Glowing Green Smoothie® (GGS) of course! I was also thrilled that Dr. Oz loved my Chia Protein Drink and compared it to a milkshake.

So milkshake-lovers out there take note of this really great alternative for you that is actually beautifying and has a lot of health benefits.

Enjoy the segment, and by all means be sure to get these Beauty Drinks into your life, especially our Beauty Detox community’s beloved GGS. Everyone always asks what is the best blender for green smoothies and I always reply “Vitamix!” There are many cheaper alternatives I know, however the Vitamix has never let me down!

        Hi Carrie,
I give GGS to my clients’ babies, who are coming off breastmilk right around 1 year old, along with easy foods like bananas mashed with avocado, etc. 🙂 Babies love the GGS!

Hey Kimberly, I ADORE your blog and I’m learning so much! I’ve been making green drinks for breakfast for a while and would never go without now. They’re incredible and energizing! =)
Loved your segment on Dr. Oz…I was wondering what your thoughts were on coconut milk? I like the idea of your chia ‘milkshake’ but don’t know how I’d do with almond milk since I have a nut allergy. Is there a huge difference nutritionally between nut milks and coconut milk?

      Hi Franklin and Christine,
Thought I would answer your questions together since they fit!
I am not a big fan of rice milk because it is pretty low nutrient, and often contains polyunsaturated vegetable oils.
I am a huge fan of coconut milk, and like the kind they sell in cartons now (I think by So Delicious). Try it for the Chia Protein Drink! xx

        Kimberly,

Have you tried Trader Joe’s coconut milk? I was using rice milk to soak my oats in the morning (to have after lemon tea and a GGS, of course), and I supplement the oats with pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flax meal, hemp seeds, raisins and walnuts. Not sure how you feel about that combo, but the point of this question is that I switched to a coconut milk since I’ve dropped 16 pounds after becoming vegan and I teeter right on 100lbs. I fear that I’m too little, so I switched to have more fat and nutrients like MCFAs. Anyway, after using coconut milk, I feel much fuller and satisfied in the morning and I can wait longer to have lunch.

Then, I read these horrible things by Chris Kessler about coconut milk. http://chriskresser.com/3-reasons-why-coconut-milk-may-not-be-your-friend

Mostly, he is concerned with the BPA lining of the cans, and the problems it can cause for folks with IBS. Well, I get the Trader Joe’s coconut milk that’s in a carton, so no worries of BPA here, but still, what are your overall thoughts on his accusations of coconut milk with IBS sufferers? I used to have IBS, but it went away when I became vegan, so maybe I should not be concerned.

That’s why I always do a search on what you have to say because I regard your word as my nutrition bible! 🙂

        Thanks,
        Evra

I don’t feel deprived at all, but privileged, and have been sharing your name and book title with friends here in the NW suburbs (Chicago area). You are doing a great job spreading the word, and your hard work and healthy messages are adding to the well-being of many people. I don’t think there can be too much emphasis on this subject, as it effects so many aspects of life: the future of food production and distribution, the welfare of the animals and our one planet. Kimberly! You rock!!

Thanks for always focusing on & seeking truth and not letting health fads or gimmicks influence you. Also I think many times people taste simple food and they are expecting a flood of overstimulation to the taste buds or a dopamine rush. They are missing out on all of the complex flavors you experience when you eat this way on a regular basis! Plus there are plenty of recipes that are truly decadent & still fulfill beauty detox requirements!

I guess sometimes I watch your videos and think omg that must be really tough with all those naysayers & close minded folks!

Thanks for doing the dirty work while we reap the beauty & health benefits! You’re so smart! Can’t wait for book 2!!!! 😉

I don’t even hear the naysayers, to be honest. They do not enter my consciousness in any way or form, so they have 0 affect on me. I just focus on what I’m doing, and don’t worry about what others are saying or doing. If you live your truth, then people (the right people) become attracted to you.

The levels shouldn’t be a major concern, though you can ask your doctor. It also contains trace amounts of calcium and other minerals, but they are so trace that they are discounted as well.

    Hi Kimbery, hi all,

I really don’t know where to post this question, so plz forgive me for posting it up here.

The blog on the diapers triggered something in me. The questions is: How safe are the kitchen utensils we use?

Why do I ask this? I’m a fan of pans with a non-stick interior. But I noticed that after a few weeks I start to see dents in the non-stick layer. Asking myself where did the layer go when it dented….. Into the sink or into our food, and so into our body? What is this non-stick layer actually made of and what are the health consequences if remains of it come into our food and our body?

Does anyone know the answer? Or is their any research available?

For the time being I switched to enamel pans, but with those also wondering if the used materials (the painted interior) is safe enough…..

    Hope you can enlighten me.

    Thnxx,
    Grace.

Oh yikes non-stick pans are uber toxic. I will do a blog on this soon! Teflon is what they often include, which when scratched can go into the body and be toxic. Use stainless steel. More soon

Well done, it is the best smoothie I have tried … EVER! It is very refreshing, sweet and so yummy that I wanted to drink the whole batch I made for the next few days 🙂

Thank you, thank you, thank you and once again thank you for introducing GGS into my life!

Hi Kim!! I have read in one of your blogs that if you were not able to make your GGS one day due to your schedule that a good thing to do was to take chlorella tablets and you had recommended the Kyoto Brand on amazon. Would that be the Growth Factor 275 mg ones or just the Chlorella 200 mg ones. The growth factor ones are more expensive so I wanted to be sure I was doing the right ones. Thanks Kim..I look forward to reading through your blogs each night!!

Great drinks! … but why are calories mentioned? In BDS you said no calorie counting again! I understand that mentioning calories can appeal to some people but I prefer being strict with not mentioning calories. The calorie-centered way of thinking does not change if we don’t challenge it all the time. Mentioning calories once or twice isn’t a bad thing but still not so bds the way I’ve understood it.

On the topic of protein: how do you rate Quorn as a meat replacement, Kimberly? I don’t know if you have it in the States, but it’s a popular meat replacement here in the UK (quorn.co.uk). It uses a type of mushroom to replace meat, textured to replicate the texture. Atm I use their “chicken” pieces in stir fries from time to time, the ingredients for which are:

Mycoprotein (87%), rehydrated free range egg white, flavouring.

So what I’m really asking is- is mycoprotein okay? I already eat organic eggs once a week, so the fact that it’s not vegan doesn’t phase me 😉

    Thanks!

A few months ago I was feeling extremely exhausted to the point where I could barely stand up for short periods of time. I went to my doctor to check my iron, which, to no surprise, was extremely low. My doctor recommended that I start eating red meat (haven’t eaten animal protein, aside from fish, in almost 10 years) and take iron pills to get me healthy again. I agreed to take the iron pills but instead of taking the recommendation of eating red meat, I decided to follow your nutrition plan- GGS in the mornings, eliminating dairy, eating lighter to heavier and trying to eat more plant food. I have gained so much more energy and my iron level went from a dangerously low 4 to 39. My iron level isn’t quite at the level it should be yet, but judging by the way I feel, I know that I am a lot healthier….and I didn’t need any red meat to get me here!

    Hey Kimberly!

I absolutely love your glowing green smoothie. Since I’ve been drinking it I have noticed heightened energy in the morning and better focus!
I have a question regarding wheat and gluten, though. I test negative for an allergy, but would you still recommend I avoid it?

I have an immense amount of appreciation for your book and often find myself skimming through it.

    Thanks a bunch!

What is your opinion on Erythritol? It is often used with Stevia, for example in chocolates. It is thought to be easier to digest. Is it a better Xylitol? What is your opinion?

    What do you think?

    Hey Kimberly,

For some reason I have built up a resistance to raw spinach. Do you have any idea why this would be? I am bummed about it b/c I am having trouble with recipes such as the GGS. Thoughts? Thanks in advance. You’re the bomb!

Hi there, I had the same issue and did some research. Turns out this is completely normal and you just need to rotate greens you use in your GGS. I switch to a new green every week, then back every 4 weeks or so and it works just fine.

Do you still make fresh vegetable juice every day along with your GGS??? Just wondering if I should still be drinking both on a regular basis. Thank you!

Kimberly, so glad I signed up. Love the green smoothie and all of your great ideas. Am very excited to try your meal recipes too. Question: Do you have a good healthy smoothie recipe for grapefruit. I love grapefruit and would like to incorporate more of it into my diet. Anything good out there?

Kimberly, I am proud to say I have read through your book already and even read some parts twice. I am a huge fan and have been reading your blog religiously. I do have a question however. The book seems to be geared more towards a woman. Do you find a lot of men who use this diet? I am more worried about losing too much weight. What do you suggest?

    Thank you in advance!

      Hi John,
I have lots of male clients. You should follow the basic principles and customize for you. For instance, my male clients drink upwards of 64 ounces (a full Vitamix full) of GGS a day. You can increase portion sizes of quinoa and healthy foods with more bulk to ensure you aren’t losing weight, have millet bread sandwiches, etc. My Pure Protein Smoothie is also a great snack, with the chia seeds included.

Check out my upcoming blog with my Avengers superheroes! Those guys are BIG, sturdy guys. 🙂

    Hello Kim:
    I love, love your book.
Just had a quick question regarding coloring gray hair. I know that hair colorants can be very toxic, is there anything you recommend for women especially during pregnancy? Thanks!

    Hi Kim!

I LOVE your book! I also LOVE the Chia Protein drink. I run allot of half marathons and this is my go to drink after long runs!

I am in the blossoming beauty phase and have a question. Is it possible to not need the Mag07 Oxygen Cleanse? The increased fiber in my diet paired with my long runs keeps everything moving quite allot down below! I know, TMI. 🙂

    Thanks for you help!

Thank you, Kimberly! I have been following The Beauty Detox Solution for only a few days so far with AMAZING results! I have been searching for a lifestyle plan, and am so grateful to have found this!
My boyfriend has Chron’s disease, and I am wondering if this diet is recommended for those who suffer from this?
And if so, are there restrictions/modifications needed?
    Thank you so much.

    Hey Kimberly!
I have read your book…and now practicing the green smoothie 5 days a week with salads throughout the day. When the weekend comes…I am eating like my old self…and lots of carbs…my question is how bad is it to revert to other foods (splurge a bit) on the weekends and go back to a more strict diet during the week?

    Thanks!

Hey Kim, after reading your book I’ve been vegan for almost 2 years & love how great it’s made me feel. Thank you!
Question about hair issues I’ve been having. I’m an actress, so my hair has accrued a lot of damage in shows and on sets from all the hot styling tools/teasing etc. I’m an avid GGS drinker and my hair grows fast but seems to be very prone to breakage- more so than ever before. It’s “fuzzy” as my hair dresser calls it and she started asking questions about my diet recently and saying that the lack of iron & protein is what is causing all the breakage and excessive shedding I’m experiencing. After reading your book- I know this is not the case- & sometimes I just “yes and” people in those types of conversations- but was hoping you could suggest some remedies to stop the breakage & itchy scalp I’ve been dealing with. It definitely feels like my dry and itchy scalp is the “root” of the problem. I’ve tried Argan oil, coconut oil, non- sulphate shampoo and lots of other home remedies like peppermint oil but the issue keeps coming back several times a year. I even resorted to a prescription shampoo from my dermatologist which helps for a little bit but I’m really not a fan of using chemical substances. Any thoughts or suggestions? Possibly a blog post about dealing with scalp and hair issues?

Regarding your protein shake (the one good for the hair) — is this good for the scalp as well? I keep getting bad flaking scalp (even though it’s not dry) and my hair keeps falling out in clumps. Would this be the drink to help this, or do you have another recommendation? Thanks!!!

    Hi Kim!

I have read your book the beauty detox solution and am aware that you usually suggest certain things to be eaten at specific times of the day.

Where would the Chia drink and teas come into place?

    Thanks!

    Hi Kim,

I am a 25 year old female and I have been following your dietary guidelines for about 6 months now. I am seeing fantastic results in my body’s tone. However, I have started rapidly shedding hair from my scalp. My hair is noticeably thinner and the scalp seems to be a bit flaky. This is very worrisome to me. Some of my friends are questioning if my change in diet is the cause of some of this hair loss. I would greatly appreciate any feedback on this issue.
    Thank-you so much!

I had the same problem… eventually my hair was falling out in chunks, and was dull and lifeless… I came accross doTerra essential oils and started taking their “Lifelong Vitality Pack”. It’s been almost 6 mo. ago, and my hair is nice and shiny and I get compliments all the time!!! For the scalp,
I used doTerra’s “Root to Tip Serum”. It’s been great.

I will definitely be checking out some of these drinks. We put so many creams, moisturizers, and anti-aging serums on our faces that we forget that what we consume can have an impact as well.

    Cheers!
