Beauty Travel Tips: Stay Gorgeous on the Go

Here are some of my Beauty Travel Tips for you. I hope these are useful to you not just when you are traveling but anytime, especially when you are busy.

Digestive enzymes are a great boost for beauty and health in general, as they promote better digestion, and help improve the absorption and assimilation of beautifying nutrients into the body. One of the brands I like is the Rainbow Light Digestive Enzymes, which I stash in my purse at all times, so I can eat 1 or 2 right before a heavier meal.

I love my Mia II Clarisonic brush, which I use a few times a week to ensure that old, dead skin cells are cleared away for maximum benefit of your creams. It whisks away old cells without overly tugging on your skin.

Along the same lines, one of my favorite beauty products is the Sally B’s Antioxidant Skin Boost, which is powdered vitamin C and resveratrol which you mix right into your serum or cream right before applying to your skin, so you can reap the full benefit of vitamin C’s wonderful brightening effect. Vitamin C can lose its potency when it’s already mixed into certain creams and stored, or in beauty creams that are in an open jar container and are constantly opened and closed and exposed to the air, which can cause oxidation.

Cranberry acts as a natural diuretic by flushing excessive fluids out of your body, as you may inadvertently consume more sodium than usual when traveling by eating out at restaurants and on the go. I often keep concentrated cranberry on hand and pour into a glass fresh water with some stevia to drink in the evenings. I wake up and pee a large amount, which is a huge relief from feeling bloated!

Even when I am traveling to a place I have never been before, I try to take time out of my day to get a small workout in. Maybe I will go for a quick jog or drop in on a yoga class. Whatever I am doing, I always make sure to have a post workout snack handy with me- that way I never overeat and maintain an active lifestyle.

Totally “blacking out” when you sleep is key, as some research has shown that even small lights may interfere with deep sleep patterns and melatonin production. I cover my eyes with any old t-shirt I have on hand, to make sure little lights aren’t affecting my sleep. I also unplug hotel alarm clocks on bedside tables and completely power down my computer.

Hope these help you out! xx Kimberly

Thanks for the beauty tips! I already do almost everything mentioned so we’re on the same routine. You stayed at the Marriott on the Venetian! Awesome location! I grew up in the building right next to it, the Grand! Welcome to Miami! I hope you enjoy your stay!

Kimberly, you have TRANSFORMED my life! I got your book last November, read the book, looked at your blog and was completely overwhelmed wondering how I was going to change the way I ate so drastically. However, I slowly made changes and I am now living an amazing, healthy life. I started out thinking I was still going to eat eggs and fish, but now, the thought of either is disgusting! I have digestive enzymes in my purse and a kombucha on my desk right now (although now I want a cranberry one instead!).
Thank you so much for promoting not only a healthy diet but a healthy lifestyle.

Wow Piper, that is so amazing! I am so happy for you, and thank you for sharing that with the community.
I know it seems drastic at first, but I always encourage people to make smaller steps that will stick, and let the experience of starting to feel healthier and more energized become the natural impetus for going forward, and sticking with the changes.
Keep up the great work! xx

How are digestive enzymes different than probiotics?

    Reply
    • Kimberly Snyder
Kimberly Snyder on October 9, 2012 at 9:03 am

In a simplistic sense, probiotics help balance the healthy bacteria levels in your gut, which is important for immunity, optimal nutritional absorption and many other key functions. I encourage taking them on an empty stomach in morning.
Digestive enzymes can be taken before eating and contain different enzymes (lipase, amylase, protease, etc.) to help break down and digest your foods more efficiently.

    Hi Kimberley!
I absolutely love your book and all your blogs! This post came at a great time! I wanted to get your advice on traveling while still maintaining the beauty detox lifestyle. I will be in Bali for 7 weeks this January and have concerns about food. I won’t be able to drink a GGS in the morning since I won’t have a blender. I know they have a lot of vegetarian options in Bali, but I was hoping I could get your insight. When you traveled in Asia what did you eat? Any tips would be great! Thank you!

Hi Jessica! I love Bali and Indonesia (and all of Asia really!) so much.

Bali has amazing fresh fruit and veggies. You can take greens powder with you (like Green Vibrance) and have some in the morning with water, like how I did in Morocco. If you don’t have serious candida issues I recommend having a lot of fresh, enzyme-rich fruit through the morning as well. There and in Thailand, I got a lot of simple soups, with greens and other veggies in it, and brown rice.
Be careful of the Gado-Gado dishes in Indonesia though- they are full of peanut sauce, which I don’t recommend b/c of possible mold contamination.
In general though, there are a lot of great veg options if you just specify that, and you can get chillies, curries and lots of yummy spices to accompany the options so it doesn’t get old.
Write to us while you are there! xx

    Hi Kimberly,

Absolutely love your book and blog entries!

What are your thoughts on Kombucha? As you recommended, I take a probiotic supplement both in the morning and right before I go to bed. I also pour raw apple cider vinegar into my liter of water that I drink throughout the day. I heard Kombucha is great for you, but would it take place of any of the above? Or should we also be drinking it everyday as well?

    Thanks!

    Best,

      Hi Atthena!
      Thank you.
Kombucha is great as a probiotic source, but some believe that Kombucha has somewhat acid-forming properties in general (even the low-sugar varieties), so I always recommend drinking it in moderation.
I certainly do not drink it every day- but I do eat Probiotic & Enzyme Salad (raw kraut) most every day, and if you eat a lot of it it may possibly replace a probiotic supplement (but you can do both for insurance). If you don’t eat the raw kraut get on it! xx

Can you take the Rainbow Light Advanced Enzyme System along with heartburn medicine or are they the same thing? Reading the reviews on Amazon people purchased them with the intention of replacing heartburn medicine.

    • Kimberly Snyder

I wouldn’t necessarily say that. But a lot of indigestion and heartburn is caused by eating heavy, acidic foods in improperly combined combinations. It can be alleviated by first and foremost adjusting your diet, and secondly, having the extra aid of digestive enzymes to help break down the foods more efficiently can help.

I also use the Nutribullet everyday but didn’t want to take it when I travel. I bought the Hamilton Beach Personal Blender from Amazon and it worked great for a compack blender. It weighs 2.8 pounds and did a great gob with frozen fruits. I did use ice with it too but prefer the frozen fruit. I made sure my hotel and condo I rented had a frig. My husband would eat at the buffet and bring me back fruit from the breakfast bar. I would freeze the fruit for the next day. When I ate dinner I would save some of the salad for the smoothies also. Worked out great.

I know you cant respond to every question someone asks because there are sooo many, but I was hoping you could help! I read the article you wrote about anti aging/wrinkle creams and you suggested a few all natural lines. You also said sometimes chemicals can help to prevent wrinkles. Is there a line you can recommend for an anti aging cream that combines chemicals with natural ingredients for a more powerful, wrinkle fighting punch? Thank you so much! Ive looked everywhere!

      Hi Misty,
Thank you for visiting. It is frustrating b/c most all lines are “all natural” or are synthetic (and possibly toxic) but benefit-driven. I personally use some lab samples of products I hope to manufacture one day soon. The Sally B night cream is pretty good though, combined with the Boosters (see the link above). I also like the AHA wash by Beauty without Cruelty. xx

I am currently reading your book and loving it!!!
I have a few questions for you (and for anyone who may be able to help)
On page 143 of your book, you mention to take a magnesium-ooxygen supplement, can you please tell me the brand and form that you use or recommend and the dosage please.
I heard of NATURAL CALM which is a relaxing magnesium supplement, (I ahve tried a sample of the powder, it has no taste) but have not purchased it yet.
I have just started taking Dr. Ohhira’s probiotics (original formula, and am interested in trying the professional formula aswell) and would like to know if you know anything about it and also would like to know which probios you take or recommend.
I am going to be purchasing the enzymes this weekend and am very happy of making inteligent purchases so I do not put my body thru any unnnecessary burden.
Thanks again for everything…. you rock!!!!

I tried taking the Lady Soma Cranberry Pills every day for about a week, but it gave me a stomach ache. I now take one once a week or one a day for three days if I feel a UTI might be coming on. I haven’t had a UTI since I purchased the product which it great, but I will probably purchase a lower mg dosage that I can take for everyday use, and save these for emergency situations.
