Dreams Really Do Come True: Beauty Detox Foods Hits #2 on the NYT Bestseller List (and is the #1 health/diet/nutrition book in the country!)

I am feeling really humbled at the moment, but at the same time I feel really impelled to share this with you like a news flash…Dreams Really Do Come True: Beauty Detox Foods Hits #2 on the NYT Bestseller List (and is the #1 health/diet/nutrition book in the country!) Yes, dreams do come true!!!

Of course it’s something we’ve all heard a million times, at least in a wish-upon-a-star kind of Disney fantasy way. And if you watch the Oscars or the Olympics you hear those people talking about their dreams, but maybe you think that such goal-achieving “stars” were born with superhuman talent or features or athletic bodies, which you don’t believe you have.

But let me tell you that dreams do come true, for “normal” householder people like me and you! Mine just did, when I was crowned a New York Times Bestseller yesterday! I want you to know that it really does happen. The reality is that we all have an infinite reservoir of creative power and unlimited potential. So if you tap into the infinite power that you have within you, you can achieve your dreams also. Movie stars and Olympic athletes may have different pursuits, but it in no way makes your dreams any less valid…or unattainable. You have to work your butt off, but if you can realize that truly, the potential is there, you would see that you too can make your dreams a reality!

nytbr2

If there is something that stirs you, there is a good chance that a piece of your heart lies in that pursuit, or is at least related to some creative aspect of that subject. That is not something that should be ignored or pushed away. Success will follow you when you follow your passions and inspirations. What inspires you?

For me, ever since I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a published author. The idea of freely writing about what you love and believe in, and getting paid for it, and getting to spread your ideas spread far and wide into the public consciousness has always definitely been a huge dream of mine. Do you remember the movie Miss Potter? You might have missed it- it’s a tad on the girly, slightly “slow” side, but I love it! Renee Zellweger plays the part of Beatrix Potter, a British author…and anyways, the whole point of my little story on this is that there was a part in the movie where she gazes into the windowfront of a store and sees for the first time her book displayed in a neat little stack in the window. And she whispers to herself in the most satisfied, joyful way (in a British accent)…”I am now a published author!” That part of the movie literally made me sniffle and  cry, and touched something in me. Also, my apartment in New York is in Greenwich Village, and I would always wander around the one-way streets reflecting on all the famous writers that used to write in the neighborhood. I too wanted to be a published author!IMG_2288

Some years ago, I mustered up the courage to even thinking about writing a book. I started to pull together some writing samples, and did research on putting together a package for literary agents. I didn’t even think about the book selling well, I was just thrilled at the notion of having my writing published and be in actual bookstores. Who the heck was I anyway? I had only started a tiny nutrition blog that had like 50 readers. I was thrilled when 50 people would read one of my blogs!  It didn’t even occur to me to focus on making it a best-seller. Or maybe and probably, I didn’t dare to dream that big.

Things didn’t come together fully for a while, but I kept the dream in sight, as I kept writing away on this same original blog, which has had many design changes since but retains the same heart and spirit of the blog I started years ago. Finally, I finished the writing package, and after many months of sending it out to literary agents, and dozens of rejection letters, Hannah came into my life. Just like that, like a poof of magic. I believe there’s magic in all of our lives, if we are receptive to it. Hannah was a literary agent that believed in me, and we hit it off, and she liked my writing and my philosophy. More months followed as we worked on perfecting a package to go out to publishers with. I loved the writing and editing process, though there were many long and hard nights. I kept the dream in sight. Then we were ready. After more rejections, Sarah showed up. She was an editor from a big publishing house. Another woman who seemed to really understand me from the start…or saw the potential light beneath the muted confidence.

Anyways, we’ll speed up with story now. We worked on the first book, The Beauty Detox Solution, which was an enormous challenge. It took me over a year to write it, and it was a major process to piece the philosophy together in the right way so it would read in a logical and cohesive way. I spent many a long night working on it, and I almost broke down a few times, it was so much solitary and hard work. By that time, I had kept writing on what I believed in, and gotten national magazine and TV attention for my work. I had also attracted celebrity clients, who I started working with (though I didn’t necessarily seek them out or plan to be a “celebrity” nutritionist), and so my prospects for writing an actual successful book seemed brighter.IMG_2034

Dare I dream of being a bestseller? No, you silly thing! I sometimes caught myself telling myself. Just be happy if you can actually publish a book! But I did dare to dream. I would imagine it and started picturing the “bestseller” banner etched on the top of the book. I believed to the core of my being in my philosophy and how it could help others as it helped me, and every day my passion grew. I tried really hard to be a bestseller, and we did a lot of press and threw a big launch party. But I did not make the list.

Then…book #2 was offered. From the start, I verbalized that my dream with book #2, Beauty Detox Foods, was to be a bestseller. I was determined. I started saying affirmations to myself (yes I believe in them!), “I’m a New York Times bestselling author!” when I walked to yoga sometimes- though people walking by thought I was a loony toon. I printed the NYT best seller stamp and taped it to my fridge and bathroom mirror, so my eye was always on the prize.

When I got the call yesterday evening, and both Hannah and Sarah were on the phone, telling me that not only did I make the New York Times Bestseller list, but we made the #2 slot, and Beauty Detox Foods is the topselling health/diet/nutrition book in the country, it was very surreal. Because I could think back to when I first dared to dream about being an author…then allowed myself to dream I could be a successful author. My dream actually came true!IMG_2056

What about you? Are you daring to dream your dreams? Are you pursuing them? It doesn’t have to be limited to career- it could be in learning a skill, a hobby, being a great mom or dad. Maybe you want to start your own business or do something you love. Believe in yourself! Believe in your light and power. If you are really and truly authentically passionate about something, you will be supported if you relentlessly keep your dream in sight. You have to keep pushing forward.

We are all actually drops of consciousness from the Source, so just as one cell gives you a picture of the whole, a drop of the consciousness contains the unlimited potential of the Source. And that is the truth. You can achieve what you dare to dream. You have to dream it first. Then you have to follow up and keep working. But dreams do happen!!!

So if a girl that loved talking about health and inventing recipes in her kitchenette with 1 two-foot counter, that started a tiny nutrition and beauty blog in her tiny apartment can become the author of the topselling nutrition, health and diet book in the country, imagine what you can do!? If you dare to dream. I dare you.

Sending lots of love and gratitude,

Kimberly

Amazing story Kim! I have a insane amount of love for animals, especially dogs, but I can’t seem to come up with an idea that will incorporate this. I live in NYC and am currently in the Real Estate industry, feeling very stagnant because this is not my true passion. I hope I can figure out what my dream is so I can really go for it! I too have always considered trying to write a book, but again I don’t even know where to start, material wise. Nevertheless your story made my eyes get watery with tears of connection, respect and happiness for someone I’ve never met. You go girl!!

Congratulations Kim!!! I am one of the oldschool readers and it does not surprise me that your message has resonated and reached a huge audience. Not only does your nutritional advice get amazing results but it is very obvious from your writing and your spirit that you live your message. I am so, so, so happy for you!

I had been lax on my diet in the winter and suffered for it but starting April 1 I made a commitment to be vigilant about the program to get back on track. I am already having incredibly noticeable results (mostly in my mental state). I also decided starting April 1 to commit to writing 1000 words minimum on my book every day and apply to at least 10 jobs. It’s only day 4 but for the first time ever I’ve stuck with it every day (instead of just when “inspiration” or “motivation” hits) and I’m starting to fall in love with the process instead of the ideal and completion seems possible instead of just a far-off dream. Thank you for sharing your story. Everything is possible! We just have to love ourselves and often that starts with loving our bodies. 🙂

A breath of fresh air and you have presented health/nutrition in a way that people are actually receptive to! I am a huge fan of yours. I start of everyday with a Dr. Ohira probitioc, glass of lemon water and a glowing green smoothie! Working on cutting out dairy and gluten for good!!! I have suffered from acne my entire life and still do…I’m hoping that making some major changes will improve the quality of my skin as it is my biggest insecurity. You give me hope!

Congratulations Kim! What an inspiring story. I have to thank you for your first book – it truly changed my life. About a year ago I was feeling run down, exhausted, my skin was breaking out horribly and I knew I needed a change. I went to my doctor and he told me I had allergies and prescribed me a prescription nasal spray! (which I did not fill, and never went back to him) It was definitely not allergies. Then one morning I saw you on the Today Show talking about how your skin is indicative of your overall health – DUH! It made total sense, but it never even occurred to me that what I was eating could affect my skin, and then I realized it was probably the reason I was feeling so sluggish. I bought your book, The Beauty Detox Solution, read it in one day, and WOW was I floored! It lead me to do even more research, and long story short, my fiance and I have been on a vegan, plant-based diet for over a year and I feel better than I ever have! It wasn’t overnight, by any means, but you inspired me to go see a holistic nutritionist, and we did some blood work and found out that I had a Vitamin D deficiency and I had low blood sugar issues. That helped to explain my lethargy. Removing processed and sugary foods helped to balance my blood sugar, and I made sure to take my Vitamin D supplement and get a little sunshine. I also stopped taking birth control, which I had been on for over 10 years, based on your warnings about the harms of artificial hormones and it helped to balance my hormones and clear up my skin. After the first month, my hair started to fall out which was a little scary, but I persevered and made sure I was getting enough calories, and it’s all growing back. I had little baby hairs at my hairline that were annoying because they were hard to tame, but were awesome because it meant my body just needed to detox and start fresh! (To anyone reading this – don’t be alarmed by temporary hair loss. It will grow back after the initial shock of your diet change.) I thank you, my fiance thanks you, the thousands of animals I will save from abuse over my lifetime by not eating meat thank you, and my future babies will also thank you! I feel great every time I choose my plant foods over junk food or meat, and of course I tell everyone I’m with WHY I made that choice. Thanks again!

I bought your Beauty Detox book a few weeks ago and I’m glad I did! Really good info on why we should avoid certain foods like dairy and soybeans (which sucks because I actually love tofu) for better health. Trying to consciously avoid those types of foods and include more organic veggies and some of your recipes into my daily meals.

Reading your first book not only brought me to a complete state of health but inspired me to leave my job which I didn’t enjoy and study a degree in nutrition (which I am still completing now). I have always had such huge dreams but sometimes feel very doubtful they will come true. However I never doubt my passion for nutrition and reading blog posts like this really make me believe I can achieve my dreams. You should know that you, your blog and your both your books have changed my life completely. Thank you so much xxx

I’ve been reading your blog for a year or so, but this is my first time commenting. 🙂 I wanted to let you know how touching this post is; it literally brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for the inspiration, and congrats on making the NYT bestseller list! I purchased Beauty Detox Foods and am loving it; I can’t wait to go grocery shopping this weekend and make my first batch of Glowing Green Smoothie!

Beautiful story Kimberly!! Just today I was feeling a bit down wondering where I’m going in my life. I really needed to read this today. I’m truly happy for you. I get excited everytime I hear people on the streets mentioning your book as well! 🙂
    Also…
I know you’ve heard(or read?) this before, but you literally changed my life. I am so soo grateful I came across your first book (and saw you on Dr. Oz :p). I suffered from severe eczema, asthma, depression, anxiety, being overweight, infertility, being borderline diabetic…
I never thought that changing my diet was the answer to all of that. I never thought I could feel this fantastic or feel this confident in myself. Thank you thank you THANK YOU!

That was very inspiring. I really needed that. Holistic health and wellness is my passion, but the thought of failing at my entrepreneurial attempts cause me to stall my work’s progress. I have to keep reminding myself that there is just as much chance to succeed as to fail, so why not focus on succeeding? I read somewhere once that whatever the mind dwells on, the mind works towards. I plan to focus on succeeding! thank you for your post 🙂

    Kimberly —

Congratulations! Thank you for sharing your journey with us… and encouraging everyone to Follow Their Dreams — it can work out! (Although I think it helps to have a heck of a lot of passion, and a message that people want to hear.) I must say that I have some version of your GGS almost every morning and am much the better for it.

    Enjoy the ride!

ps — a very minor point. At the beginning of one par, you have — “Anyways, we’ll speed up with story now…”
With all due respect, “anyways” is not a word. Should read “Anyway,”

Congratulations, Kimberly! I am so happy for you!!! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Book #2. I ordered my Kindle copy so I could read it immediately. I will eventually get the paperback, too. For Book #1, I did the reverse, I bought the paperback and then ordered the Kindle version. I am also a member of your Glowing Lean System. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful way of living!

    Kimberly,

I can’t even begin to describe how much your words inspire me. Your first book, The Beauty Detox Solution, changed my life (for the better)! I began to follow you on your blog, and put your plan to action.

I’ve always been passionate about health and nutrition, and unfortunately am not in that field today. I keep contemplating the idea of going back to school, getting my degree and furthering my career in nutrition as this is truly what I’m passionate about. I started a blog called sofreshnsogreen.wordpress.com because you inspired me to. I share your tips and knowledge with anyone and everyone I can because I truly believe in it and want everyone I know to be as happy and healthy as possible.

Please keep on doing what you’re doing, you truly are making a difference. If you can do it I have confidence I can too!

    Hello Kimberly
Love your story and it does inspire me to pursue my dream of opening up a Healthy Happy place when adults and children can come and sip their way to great health and great times. I have this idea in my head for over a year now and I have to pursue it. But sometimes I just do not know how to start or go about it. Finance plays a big part as well but that is something that I working on. For example Non dairy seasonal smoothies, seasonal juicing, real hot cocoa, tea made from fresh tea leaves, organic coffee in the near future. I gave up eating meat over three years ago and I feel great. I recently went on Gluten, Dairy, Caffene and Meat free 2013 Action Plan and I dropped a whopping 15 lbs in less than two months. The meat and dairy was easy not to miss because I don’t eat meat or dairy anymore, I had my sister come on board with me and she lost 15 lbs as well and the good news she has not gone back to eating meat. I follow your blog all the time. Keep up the great work and I did buy your first book and will be buying this one as well. Thank you

Congratulations! I loved reading about how your success happened. About a month ago, I got a copy of your first book from the library. I’m trying now to transfer my husband and 3 kids from the SAD diet to a plant, based diet. They’re pretty good sports, but it is definitely challenging. I just got your 2nd book in the mail and am looking forward to trying some of the recipes. Congrats again and may God continue to bless you!

This is so heartwarming. I myself am very passionate about my dreams but it is inspiring stories like yours that resonate and reach people like myself. Through my faith in God I stumbled upon your first book. Let me tell you that I was instantly hooked every morning until I finished it. I thought to myself how amazing it was to finally find the information I was looking for.It was so easy to understand and I could totally feel the passion of loving to share beautiful information. I always wanted to know what the heiroglyphics on nutrition lables meant. I wanted control of what I was eating, and eating what God intended me to eat. I wanted the truth behind the líes of the corporations. I wanted to be empowered about the food I ate. Because of your beautiful gift, your book is helping me accomplish my goals. And I do this all with less stress, energy, better sleep, less carvings, all while in the best mood ever. All of this thanks to your wisdom. Thank you for always beleiving in yourself, because it helped me beleive in me

I took my 13 year old daughter for a three day trip to Chicago last week. I walked past Borders several times until I finally decided to go in and buy this book. I have been wanting it for a long time. I couldn’t put it down. I love it. Now, it’s right on my kitchen counter opened to page 170 so I can make my glowing green smoothie. It’s so delicious and so easy. Thank you Kimberly!
