I’m a huge fan of acai. In the busy/stressed/polluted world we live in we need to replenish our bodies with super-charged foods, and acai is one such amazing food. It is loaded with antioxidants, healthy fats, vitamins and is naturally sugar-free.
I called this smoothie my Acai Purple Beauty Angel Smoothie. Why “angel” you might ask me?! Hmm…to be honest, who knows?? I can’t give you a straight answer. It just kind of popped into my head when I was naming the smoothie. “Purple rain” is too cliched, as much as I love and respect Prince.
I’ve already used “rainforest” in our Rainforest Acai recipe. Well, angels protect and have healing powers, which is kind of like what acai does? I admit it’s a bit random. But I like it. And I hope you too like the name, but more importantly, love this smoothie too, as I do!!
Acai Berries
Acai is a bit different from your typical fruit, in that it’s a more fatty fruit that doesn’t digest as quickly as high water-containing fruits. Acai doesn’t naturally contain any sugars either – it’s just pure nutrients, healthy fats and water.
This is one of the reasons why I use it in desserts (I buy it in frozen packets. I love the Pure Unsweetened Sambazon brand smoothie packets best). Acai can be purchased frozen in most health food stores and if not, don’t hesitate to request that they start to carry it!

Hi Kimberly
When you give us these smoothie recipes are they to be used in addition to the GGS or to replace it for some variety? I have not found a smoothie recipe that I don’t like and they are all healthy too. Thanks for helping us all get healthier
Hi Kathy and thanks for being such a great supporter of my Smoothie Sundays. I always recommend my GGS first thing in the morning and then any of my other smoothies are great for an afternoon boost of energy and nutrients. Have fun choosing and Happy Blending! ;)
