Ready for a great energy booster but something that’s a ‘lil different?
I don’t see banana and ginger combined that much but it’s actually a pretty awesome combo. I present to you my brand new Banana Ginger Smoothie, which is loaded with fiber and vitamins, is low in fat, easily digestible and will help keep your blood sugar levels balanced.
Coconut water is hydrating, and optimal hydration is essential for healthy skin and hair. Coconut yogurt contains enzymes and live, gut-balancing probiotics, and ginger warms the body and fuels your metabolism. Just what we need in a functionally beautifying yet delicious afternoon smoothie snack!
Haven’t had a banana in a while? Let’s find out why we should get peeling…
Aren’t Bananas For Monkeys?
When I was recently in Nicaragua and staying in a tree house, I underestimated how smart the monkeys are and a few times they used their little monkey fingers to peel open the door, climb into the kitchen, and eat all the bananas I had on the counter! Sneaky little suckers!! I only wish I had a camera on to capture them in the act. :)
Bananas are also one of the perfect foods for humans— not just monkeys. We have monkey-like fingers which were designed to peel, not only bananas but other fruits too. We don’t have sharp claws designed to rip apart other animals (thank goodness!).
I absolutely love bananas! I eat a few bananas every day- both plain and in my Glowing Green Smoothie. Many people avoid them because they worry that they are “fattening” somehow. But if the rest of your diet and your gut is balanced, you will definitely thrive on bananas. Learn all about this amazing fruit here!
But for now, just know that bananas are high in potassium— which is an important mineral and electrolyte necessary for muscular function and digestion. Potassium also helps balance the effects of sodium on your body.
Bananas also contain fiber (3 grams in a medium-sized one), and vitamins A, B, E, K and C as well as 6 mcg of folic acid (essential for red blood cell formation). (And even though we don’t follow calorie counting in Beauty Detox, for those of you that feel comfortable eating something once you know the calorie content, this tasty package only has about 105 calories and 0 grams of fat.)
Bananas are also great in helping your body to easily break them down and digest them, thanks to their natural oils, fiber and enzymes. They won’t weigh down your digestive tract and will actually help to lubricate it. The electrolytes in bananas help restore electrolytic balance while the fiber helps keep bowel movements regular.
Let’s face it…Bananas are amazing!

Hi Kim! This looks delicious! Would this be a smoothie that I could have in the morning instead of the GGS some days? Also, what is a good Acai berry smoothie that’s good to have in the morning for breakfast?
Hi Kara…this is a smoothie to have in the afternoon. The GGS should always be part of our morning ritual, as it provides an abundance of nutrients for the rest of the day and breaks down in our system easily. My smoothie options are always for later in the day (afternoon time), as a pick-me-up and a boost of energy for the rest of your day. Here is a link for my Rainforest Acai Smoothie: https://bit.ly/2c9yeOV and my Skin-Plumping Smoothie: https://bit.ly/2cQt1KJ. Again, have this in the afternoon. Happy Blending! ;)
Hi! It’s my first time visiting and I have to confess I’m amazed with this combo! I love ginger (seriously, I’m known for it in my family!) and this is such a great idea for a smoothie! Thanks for this recipe :) Do you think I could use coconut water or coconut milk instead of the yogurt? I find it very difficult to get coconut yogurt where I live. Thanks!
Hi Lee and thanks so much for checking out my new smoothie recipe. Definitely give the coconut water/milk a try and see the consistency you like. I’m sure it will taste delicious. Let me know what you think. Sending lots of love! ;)

This is one of my FAVORITE smoothie! I just made it and I can’t get enough! so yummilicious!!!
That is so great to hear! Thanks for sharing and sending you lots of love! ;)
I forgot to ask … Can we add protein powder? (hemp)? to this smoothie? How do we know which smoothies it’s safe for us to add protein? I like to make them after I work out. or just direct me to a blog you’ve already answered this question :) I definitely know not to GGS! <3
Hi Linda – blending basically “pre-digests” the ingredients, so fruit can be combined with other nutrients in smoothies, such as healthy fats from hemp hearts, chia seed gel, avocado or plant protein that may come from a plant-based protein powder. First and foremost, listen to your body and see how it reacts to this combination. Keep a journal of slight changes you make in your diet so you can come back to it and make other changes, if need be. Let us know how you do. Lots of love! ;)
If bananas are for monkeys then sure I am monkey. Thanks for the recipe Kim. The coconut water/nectar must add smooth taste to this smoothie. Cheers! :)
I love bananas too! So thankful you checked this recipe out. Let us know what you think and sending you lots of love! ;)
