Powerhouse Beauty Fruit: Bananas
If you’ve been a part of the Beauty Detox community for any length of time (or if you are new, welcome!!! ) , you will have gathered just how much I love bananas.
In my most recent book, Radical Beauty, I share just how important bananas are in filling our bodies with vitamins, minerals, fiber and long-term energy.
When you follow The Beauty Detox Solution plan, you will never miss out on all the amazing vitamins and phytonutrients that other diets may be lacking in.
It’s not just about counting calories, or avoiding a whole macronutrients like carbs. It’s how you balance your overall diet and choose the highest quality whole foods in optimal combinations for digestion.
When I created the Beauty Detox plan, I was thinking of the most effective way to naturally slim you down so that you can feel your best, and look amazing in the process. This will set you up for amazing energy and overall life!
Bananas are high in potassium (about 600 mg per medium banana), potassium (balance the effects of sodium on your body), and fiber (3 grams in a medium-sized one). Bananas also contain vitamins A, B, E, K and C as well as 6 mcg of folic acid—essential for red blood cell formation. (All of this comes in a tasty package that has about 105 calories with 0 grams of fat).
Bananas are really a force to be reckoned with, as you can see from the list above. With natural oils and enzymes that help your body easily digest them. They won’t weigh down your digestive tract, and will help lubricate it.
The fiber in bananas helps keep bowel movements regular, while the electrolytes help restore electrolytic balance. Say, if you are experiencing digestive issues such as diarrhea. You can see why bananas are a perfect, natural, human food.
Not Your Average Chocolate: Cacao
This powerful superfood originated in the foothills of the Andes and has been known to shed fat and boost immunity. In addition, it will create loads of energy, improve your memory, and increase your bliss!
When it comes to the bliss part, I think we can all agree that we associate how we feel with foods we choose to eat. So all the more critical to promote feelings of love and joy to really help open up the energy of the heart chakra.
And cacao is one way to do this since it contains the neurotransmitter anandamide known as the “bliss chemical.” In yoga, ananda means bliss.
If you’re interested in elevating your bliss, then you’ll want to click here!
Raw cacao contains nearly four times the antioxidant content of regular processed dark chocolate, 20 times more than blueberries!
Cacao also contains anandamide inhibitors—keeping the compound from breaking down quickly and the feeling of cacao anadamide lasting longer—so we feel great longer!
Cacao and Caffeine
Because cacao contains the stimulants of caffeine and has theobromine. This is the case, even when labeled as “raw”. We need to be aware of over-stimulation, since this can tax our nervous system, which can make us feel worn out and stressed.
And don’t worry, cacao has plenty of flavor so you don’t need to add much to this yummy bowl. And because I love chocolate so much, I frequently have to remind myself that it should be used as an occasional treat.
You may choose to purchase cacao at any health food store, or find some great online sites where you can buy it raw, organic and in bulk.
Beauty Berry: Acai
I love acai and use it in my smoothies almost every day (** obsessed** :) ). Acai berries have powerful detoxification capacities in the human body, and are super high in antioxidants. Filled with fiber (a natural cleanser), minerals, and naturally sugar-free. You can feel good about what’s going into your afternoon snack and how it will show up later in your glowing skin.
Acting as a natural cleansers, we’ll be keeping our colons free of these harmful substances and helping to alleviate constipation and other digestive problems. What’s pretty amazing about acai berries, is they are capable of speeding up bowel transit time. It also prevents foods from fermenting in the intestines, which can contribute to the dreaded bloating, constipation, and gas.
If you haven’t tried acai yet or don’t know where to purchase it, it can be found at most health stores (in the freezer section). My favorite brand that I’ve been using for years is the Sambazon Unsweetened Acai Smoothie Packets. Made from delicious, organic acai, wild-harvested from the heart of the Amazon and using fair-trade practices. You can feel good about supporting and benefiting the local farmers!
Not too long ago I did a podcast on acai, so please check it out if you haven’t listened yet! It’s a super fun interview and I think you’ll enjoy it. xx
Let’s get started towards a healthier and more beautiful you!
