Hey Beauties,
Today we are going to talk about 3 tips on how to keep your kidneys healthy. This is a really important topic because your kidneys are workhorses that play a very important role in your body. Healthy kidneys have been touted in traditional Chinese medicine as absolutely essential to our vitality.
How Your Kidneys Work
Envision your kidneys as 2 bean-shaped organs, about the size of your fists, resting below your rib cage on either side of your spine.
Healthy kidneys filter about a half cup of blood every minute.
- In 1 day, your kidneys are filtering through more than 200 quarts of blood!
- Your kidneys also remove acid (that is produced by the cells of your body).
- This means they filter around 2 quarts of waste products!
- From the kidney, waste products and water filter to the bladder, that is released via urine.
Your kidneys work hard to maintain a healthy balance of water, salts, and minerals.
Healthy kidneys balance sodium, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium—in your blood.
Your kidneys also make hormones that help control your blood pressure, make red blood cells, and keep your bones strong and healthy.
Without this balance, nerves, muscles, and other tissues in your body may not work normally. Now you can see why it’s important to keep your kidneys healthy.
My 3 Tips For How to Keep Your Kidneys Healthy
You can protect your kidneys by preventing and managing health conditions that cause kidney damage, such as diabetes and high blood pressure. We can love our kidneys and give them all the love and need they deserve.#1. Make Healthy Food Choices
Keep a balanced amount of protein in your diet. We live in a world where often we think that it’s ok to get too much protein. A high-protein diet may cause or exacerbate existing kidney problems because protein metabolism places a heavy load on the kidneys. Ultimately this makes it difficult to eliminate waste products. The average women only need about 40-60 grams of protein. Too much protein overloads your kidneys.
Avoid carbonated beverages such as soda (with or without artificial sweetener). Avoid energy drinks as they are also associated with the formation of kidney stones. Lastly, try to avoid drinking carbonated water all day long. Opt for warm lemon water instead.
Limit your consumption of caffeine. I know sometimes this can be a special treat. But there is a difference between having some caffeine in the morning vs relying on it all day long for energy. Caffeine can stimulate blood flow, increase blood pressure and place added stress on the kidneys. Healthy kidneys deserve a break from added stress, so try to limit your caffeine.
#2. Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is very very important to your kidneys. Sleep is where your kidneys regenerate and repair. It gives them a break from all the work they have been doing. The power of sleeping well cannot be over-emphasized. So much so that I created an entire Sleep Well Program for you. there is a lot of little tweaks and tips you can do for your sleep that will boost your vitality.

We have some great free meditations on our website. I advocate for you to check out whatever works for you but be sure to make it part of your life.
So I hope these tips really help you on how to keep your kidneys healthy. By focusing on your diets, not eating too much protein, limiting caffeine and carbonated beverages, and practicing stress-reducing activities to you nurture your self, you will be on your way to having healthy kidneys in no time!
