If you are looking for a mysteriously eerie sweet treat this Halloween, that may just turn some heads, try my Feel Spooky Spirulina Lemon Bites. These spooky balls of goodness are sure to creep out people that are scared of eating anything green. But once they sink their teeth into my Spirulina Lemon Bites, they will be asking you to please share the recipe!
It’s the time of year when festive treats come in abundance. To make it easier on yourself when you are trying to avoid all those processed sweets, keep these Spirulina Lemon Bites around. No need to feel guilty when you indulge in one or two.
Spooky Strengthening Spirulina
For all my plant-based Beauties looking for a boost of protein, listen up. Spirulina contains over 100 nutrients, and boasts around 60% protein content. Yay! I know you are always looking for plant-based sources of high protein. But before you go loading up on this green algae, I advise you to use it delicately. It does have a powerful pungent taste, and using too much of it might just spook you out. A little goes a long way.
Spirulina is amazing at providing energy, restoring hair and skin health, boosting brain function and elevating immunity. It contains the highest levels of carotenoids, promotes health and longevity with its high antioxidants, and is one of the most complete food sources in the world.
The plant-based, non-heme iron in spirulina is best absorbed in the presence of vitamin C, which is why it’s beneficial to enjoy spirulina with lemon whenever possible. And that is exactly why I paired spirulina and lemon together in my Spooky Spirulina Lemon Bites Recipe. Plus lemon helps to tame the spirulina bite!
Dark Dazzling Dates
Another key ingredient in my festive treats is one of my favorite natural sweeteners around, dates. I like to think of them as nature’s candy! They are super soft and chewy, kinda like a gummy bear but without all those nasty fake ingredients.
Dates are dazzling because they are like a healthy sweet treat loaded with nutrients. They are a good source of the mineral copper, an important mineral that the body uses to help absorb iron, form collagen, and red blood cells. And more bonus points. Date contain calcium! Just one cup provides you with 58mg, helping to strengthen your bone and teeth health.
Powerful Perfecting Pecans
Keeping in theme with nature’s gifts, I like to think of pecans as the perfect addition to making my Spooky Spirulina Lemon Bites taste nice and creamy. These buttery gems are one of the most antioxidant-rich tree nuts you can find. Studies rank pecans as one of the top foods with the highest levels of age-defying antioxidants. They are also rich in magnesium, which is a known anti-inflammatory. Next time you are craving something creamy pop a pecan in your mouth and know that you are doing your body a favor.
It’s always good to remember Beauties, that we like to practice eating everything in moderation. You likely know that consuming too many nuts can be heavy on our systems. But eating a balanced consumption of raw organic nuts can actually help enhance satiety and increase your metabolism. It’s all about balance!
Pecans contain more than 19 vitamins and minerals. One, in particular, I want to bring attention to is the perfect trace mineral called zinc. Zinc works to help our immune functions, our thyroid functions and to help maintain our skin healthy by guarding it against infections. Who would have thought that pecans pack such a powerful perfect punch?! Now you know :)
Pairing dates with spirulina, pecans and pumpkin seeds in my Spooky Spirulina Lemon Bites is bound to give you heaps of energy.
These festive bites will keep you running around all day and night long! They are the perfect treat to indulge on as the ‘trick-or-treaters’ come knocking at your door.
Wishing you a safe and happy Halloween!

Hi Kimberly,
Thank you for this recipe. It came at a perfect time.
I would like to let you know the search option on your new website does not work properly. When I am searching for a recipe, I get 4 results in Blogs & Recipes and a ‘view all’ option. Once I click the ‘view all’ option, I am being directed to the Shop page and can no longer see the search results. Your old website allowed searching by both the ingredients and the name of the recipe. It was amazingly useful.
Thank you for your work. I have been your devoted follower for quite some time now and cannot wait to see what the new Fell Good Cycle will bring.
Thank you,
Natalia
Hi,
Do you put the entire 1/2 cup of shredded coconut in the mixture? How much do you save for the topping or for rolling the bites in?
Thanks
Hi Heidi – thanks for checking out my recipe! I use the 1/2 cup combined with all the other ingredients and then just pour extra onto a dish according to how much you need to roll all the formed balls. Let me know what you think and sending you lots of love! ;)
