Check-In With Your Adrenals
One of the things that too many of us are unknowingly dealing with is adrenal fatigue. We might see dark circles or puffiness under our eyes, which can be our first indicator of this pesky problem. When adrenals are overtaxed, it can contribute to a whole host of problems, like reproductive issues in both men and women. In fact, I once read a study that showed that stress and anxiety contribute to infertility in women, partially because they increase the amount of cortisol in the blood.
Cortisol, if you are unaware, is basically the body’s natural stress and anxiety hormones. Chronic stress can throw so much of your life out of balance and your fertility is one of them. Eventually, the adrenal glands become too exhausted to keep up with the body’s cortisol demands and production of estrogen, progesterone, and DHEA (hormones needed for fertility) decreases to lower than normal levels.
So you are probably wondering, what on does this have to do with this Tropical Berry Fruitfulness Smoothie? Oh, Beauty, it has so much to do with all my recipes. One of the number one ways to reverse the effects of adrenal fatigue is to nourish yourself! Cut out the refined carbs and fast food. and fuel your body with whole plant foods, as you will see in this smoothie recipe.
Bananas for Balance
You might find yourself craving more junk foods if your adrenals are taxed out. Really what you need is to fill you up with the vitamins and minerals and let your body come back into balance. By eating whole, plant foods you’ll realize that your energy levels are maintained throughout the day. Bananas are especially good for this. Being rich in vitamin C, they also help ward off irritability and help keep anxiety at bay. This, in turn, relieves your adrenal glands.
Another way that bananas can bring you balance is that they can help keep you regular in so many ways. Bananas have a wonderfully high concentration of fiber. They also have large sources of potassium. Potassium helps regulate the fluid levels in your body and keep hydration balanced. Together these players help promote good digestion in your body. This, in turn, helps prevent constipation from occurring. Bananas help our bodies balance in such a wonderful variety of ways, which is why you’ll see them in so many of my recipes!

Micronutrient-Rich Berries
Here is another wonderful tip, Beauties: Make this Tropical Berry Fruitfulness Smoothie recipe to deliver a whole range of micronutrients to your body. Remember when we work to create a healthy body, there are a lot of micronutrients that we can all benefit from. According to the National Institutes of Health, simply getting in a wide array of different micronutrients might have the most positive impact on fertility and pregnancy. Amazing, right!?
For a quick reminder, micronutrients are the essential nutrients that are so important for healthy development. I am talking about all the vitamins and minerals that offer a huge range of physiological functions in our bodies, no matter what stage we are at in our lives.
This Tropical Berry Fruitfulness Smoothie is truly loaded with micronutrients! Blackberries, for instance, provide a whopping 32% of your daily vitamin K needs. Our bodies use vitamin K to make proteins for healthy bones and to help foster normal blood clotting. Blueberries and raspberries contain a special group of antioxidants called carotenoids and flavonoids. These are your vitamins A, C, and E. They also contain selenium, zinc, and phosphorus. Altogether, these micronutrients support things like building your connective tissues and strengthening your immune function. Who knew such little things could provide so much power?
Hydrating Coconut Water
We are lucky to live in a time where coconut water is easily accessible. You can find boxed coconut water in almost every market today and if you haven’t tried it yet, let me suggest to you that it is time. Though I love coconut water best straight from the source, these boxed options are convenient when we aren’t living in places where coconuts fall from the trees.
Plus, one of the best hydration options out there is coconut water. Which is why I love to find ways to incorporate it into my recipes. Again, no matter what you’re trying to achieve – healthier skin, fertility, increased energy – coconut water can help! Lauric acid, iron, potassium, magnesium, and calcium are the mighty coconut’s key ingredients. And they play a major part in fixing dehydration issues, which can hinder us in many ways. Don’t be a stranger to this liquid gold! Enjoy it in your Tropical Berry Fruitfulness Smoothie or sip it straight. Your body will thank you for it!
Maca Magic
Lastly, I like to think there is a little extra magic in this Tropical Berry Fruitfulness Smoothie recipe in thanks to maca. Maca is a powerful root that has been praised for centuries for its adaptogenic-like qualities. For a quick recap, adaptogens are natural plant products that increase your body’s ability to deal with internal and external stresses and normalize imbalances.
When consumed regularly, maca is believed to help balance hormones, minimize menopause, and even boost libido and fertility. It’s like magical pixie dust that can work wonders in so many areas of our body. :) This adaptogen also helps protect the brain from damage, improves cognitive ability in healthy people and improves bone health. It’s also believed to lift energy!
If you realize that you may be dealing with a little adrenal fatigue, maca can help with that too. You don’t need to only use it in my Tropical Berry Fruitfulness Smoothie recipe. Rather, take maca regularly as a great way to help your body adapt to stress and counteract the negative effects of tension and anxiety in your body.

Thanks for this new recipe.
Just wondering if this is properly food combined though? Don’t berries only combine well with greens? Do they also combine well with the slower digesting fruit (banana)?
Hi Tina and thanks for your great question. You answered it correctly! Yes, bananas digest well with berries as they are a slower digesting fruit. You can look up more on my website where I have a whole article on bananas and well as ones discussing food combining. Sending you lots of love! ;)
Hi Kimberly!
Just needed a little more to fill up my day and of course came to check out your smoothies and came upon this one!
Only had blueberries so I used 3/4 cup, a few frozen cranberries and half an acai packed and added some hemp seeds.
Delish! 💖 💖 💖 💖
Thank you again!
Amazing!! Thanks for sharing Linda and sending you so much love and continued support! Xo
Following Ayurvedic principles for optimum digestion, I normally don’t mix fruits with vegetables or even one vegetable. What is your opinion on that?
For the green smoothies if I have to, I only use a very small amount of apple or pineapple for little sweetness.
Hi Alessandra! I’m all for you listening to your bodies needs and incorporating Ayurveda. Check out my articles on my website where I discuss this topic and how to incorporate Beauty Detox/Solluna in with your Ayurvedic principles. Let me know how you do and sending you lots of love! ;)
Is there a go to substitute for banana? I cannot eat them.
Hi Brenda and thanks for your question. You can skip the banana all together or use avocado, mango or chia gel for some other options. It will taste great either way. Let me know how you do! Lots of love! xo
Hi, Kimberly – what type of maca do you recommend? I know there are a bunch of options, though I have not tried any yet (red, black, yellow, gelatinized, raw, etc…) Thanks in advance and thanks for the recipe!
Hi Amy – thanks for the question. I try to find an organic brand like Terrasoul Gelatinized, which is more digestible. Here’s a link: https://amzn.to/2LGJvr0. You can also try Garden of Life mykind Organics Fair Trade Organic Gelatinized Peruvian Maca Root Energy Boost:https://amzn.to/2WS9QsF. Shop around and see which brand you like better. And let me know if you try this smoothie and what you think. Lots of love! xo
So delicious and nutritious.
Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it, Beauty! Sendings you lots of love xx
Hi Ms. Kimberly! I just want to ask when will be the perfect time to drink this? I recently just finished reading your detox book and I’ve been sharing what I learned with friends and family! Is there any advice you can give me about consuming this drink? I started drinking the green smoothie on a daily and I’m not sure when I can drink another smoothie with fruits!
Hi Beauty! Thank you for reading my book and sharing this wonderful lifestyle with your loved ones! You can certainly drink this smoothie as an occasional alternative to the Glowing Green Smoothie, if you want to shake things up or based on seasonal availability of produce. You could also enjoy it as a snack on an empty stomach – just make sure you give yourself some time (at least an hour) to digest this fruit-based smoothie before consuming other foods. Sending you lots of love! xx
