Today’s meditation is about trust and specifically about Trusting Life. When we try to control external events, it means that so much of our energy is flowing outside and we’re focused on the external. And really when we get underneath what controlling is about, it’s really about fear. And it’s about thinking that we have to guide everything specifically, otherwise bad things can happen.
And this actually isn’t true. What we want to put our energy into is our inner state and opening more and expanding more into trusting life. And when we do this, we open more to love. We open more to higher energies. And these tendencies to control, to have all this fear around us, they just start to melt away and they start to want to shed off us like an old snake skin that we don’t need anymore. Trying to control and grasp and hold actually pushes away the things that we want to hold on to.
It’s much more powerful to come at life with this open energy, more loving energy, more trusting energy, and to allow more to unfold and to feel that state of inner bliss and inner peace that is possible for us, no matter what’s going on externally. We start to build that more and more in our inner state.
I invite you to go into our meditation today with an open heart. And to know that this meditation on trusting life is always available to you. And now, let’s begin our meditation…
Go ahead and take a comfortable seat. Either sitting on the floor, legs crossed, hips elevated on a meditation cushion. Or if you prefer to sit in a chair, please sit forward so that both of your feet can be nice and flat on the ground.
Take a moment and lift your spine, shoulders over your hips. Chin parallel to the ground and take a nice deep breath in through your nose. And a nice, slow exhale out through your mouth. Just getting into your seat, getting into the space.
And now as you take another deep inhale, I’d like you to lift your shoulders up towards your ears, gathering all that tension into your shoulders, and then exhale, getting out through your mouth, release your shoulders down. Two more times, inhale. Tense the shoulders, lift them all the way up towards the ears. Exhale, release it out. One more time, inhaling, lifting up towards your ears and then exhaling.
And now re-lift your spine. So your spine feels erect and lifted, but not tense in any way. Let your palms rest face up on your thighs or on your knees so that you feel open and receptive. And now we’re going to start a nice, slow count of four in and four out on the exhale, nice and relaxed, feeling nice and smooth. I’ll do the counts to start.
Inhaling now, two, three, four. and exhaling out, two, three, four. And again, nice, slow inhale two, three, four. And exhaling two, three, four. Just continue like that. Nice and smooth.
Really feeling this fluidity between your inhales and your exhales. And feeling with every exhale you start to relax a little bit more, noticing how your spine can stay nice and lifted but relaxed. Keep your shoulders relaxed. You can relax your neck. You can relax any tension anywhere in your body.
Remember that we do not need to try to cling or control. We just need to breathe and open up and feel expansive and trust life more and more, trust this moment, trust the peace and the joy that is always available to you right in this very moment.
Setting the Intention for Today
Now I’m going to say an affirmation and you can say it along with me out loud, or you can say it to yourself, or you can simply listen to my words. I’m going to say it a few times.
I am in the flow of life and I trust that I am right where I need to be in this present moment. I am in the flow of life and I trust that I am right where I need to be in this present moment. I am in the flow of life and I trust that I am right where I need to be in this present moment.
Let’s take another moment to breathe and let the truth of those words start to settle deep down, deep, deep to your core and to every cell of your being.
It is safe to trust.
Be present in each moment and we meet life in each moment.
Taking another deep breath in, and a nice slow exhale.
Finally bring their hands together and prayer in front of our heart.
Taking a moment for gratitude, anything that arises spontaneously or maybe just general. Thanks for life, for this breath, for this moment, for this beautiful life.
