I have an uber-delicious, dessert-tasting recipe for you…that actually contains sprouts. Yes, sprouts! Sprouts are one of the healthiest foods with the greatest bang for your buck, being so inexpensive and supplying loads of amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, minerals and more. Check out my brand new Chocolate Sprouted Shake Recipe!
The important thing is to reach for foods that offer us beauty benefits, essential vitamins, and nutrition- and this recipe has it all! If there is one thing I always try to aim for is balance, and this is true in my recipe creations.
One thing I hear a lot when I meet people is that they avoid fruit because they are scared of the fruit sugar, but then they eat lots of other treats. Let’s not forget that fruit is the most natural food for humans to eat!
Fruit is a complete nutritional package and has incredible cleansing properties. By adding more fruit to your life, you may find your sweet cravings more satisfied. This smoothie has one of my favorites- ie the mighty banana, one of nature’s most perfect foods!
If you are battling candida, a yeast imbalance I discuss in The Beauty Detox Solution, you may have to avoid all sugars, including fruit, for a time (as I did). After balance is restored though, you can go back to eating fruit!
Beauty Fruits will also make you glow and give you the energy you need—not fizzling away like how cupcakes or gummy bears will do to your energy levels. Speaking of treats though… let’s talk chocolate.
Always opt for clean dark chocolate- I cannot stress this enough!
Why dark chocolate? Because not all chocolate is created equal (not even close!). The potential health benefits of dark chocolate are many and quite impressive.
On the opposite spectrum, milk chocolate and other forms that have subpar sweeteners or fillers are congestive and should be avoided!
And really, with the amazing option of dark chocolate, you can have great chocolate in your life and not miss the yucky ingredients anyways!
You may have tried some of my other recipes where we’ve added cacao powder to the mix. Well, dark chocolate is made from cacao (or cocoa). Here are some incredible things to remember about cacao when you’re tempted to reach for those “other” chocolates:
Some of you may be tempted to use cocoa powder (being that it’s cheaper), rather than cacao powder. I can definitely say, you are worth getting the good stuff whenever possible.
Both cacao and cocoa powders come from the same original source (the Theobroma cacao tree), and how it is processed is what makes the difference. Cocoa can be used sometimes, when sourcing is an issue, but it may contain added sugar or other sweeteners.
Cacao is the raw form of the cacao bean, which is less processed—having more powerful antioxidant effects and health benefits. Why are we talking about cacao powder? Because this goes for the dark chocolate bars or chips you will want to look for when prepping for this recipe.
You may choose to purchase your dark chocolate at any health food store, or find some great online sites where you can buy it raw, organic and in bulk. Just remember, that dark chocolate (cacao), has plenty of flavor so you don’t need to add much more to this smoothie since we’re adding in a couple of dates to help sweeten it up.
In addition to reminding any of you Beauties that may be going through the Blossoming Beauty stage, I’m also going to remind all of us, that cacao contains the stimulants of caffeine and has theobromine, even when labeled as “raw” (so avoid binging on this!).
Enjoy it, but just keep all this in mind and have balance. I personally eat quite a bit of chocolate, but I don’t drink coffee so I feel that it balance for me. Find your balance and then move on.
Also, try to keep track of when you tend to crave sweets and try to indulge in dark chocolate about once a week (rotating some of my other smoothie snacks into the mix).
As long as you are making sure there’s no hidden reason for the cravings, it’s okay to indulge in a sweet treat every now and then. Just be sure you choose ones with only the very best ingredients possible. You deserve it!
I love my sprouts (microgreens), and this smoothie is just another easy, whole food-based way to up the ante with more nutrients and enzymes.
What makes these young seedlings so magical and worthy of our eating is that they contain:
What’s so cool is when a seed becomes sprouted, it begins to transition from a dormant seed into an actual living plant, which means, much of the stored nutrients begin to multiply. It’s been known to increase the protein content by up to 30 percent and the enzyme content up to 1,000 percent, and more.
I love mixing up my sprouts to gain the most powerful, beautifying benefits. Some of my favorites are clover sprouts, broccoli sprouts, and, of course, alfalfa sprouts. Check out your local farmers markets and upscale grocery stores to get the best variety into your beauty routines!
