This week’s topic is: Practical Ways to Heal Your Relationship with Food by Feeling Into Your Intuition
Food is one of our four cornerstones of true wellness and true beauty. The others are body emotional wellbeing and spiritual growth. And together, these cornerstones really become the foundation for how you feel in your life and your experience of life. And it’s important that we heal our relationship with food, which is such an important energy channel. And it can also be an enormous energy drain because food is not the end goal, right?
We want to heal the relationship so that it is supportive of our overall energy and life goals. We want to create joy, peace, bliss and feeling energized and revitalized, however, we don’t want it to be a distraction or to be obsessive and frustrated about food.
I know about all of this as I’ve had a pretty crazy relationship with food for the past few decades where I went through different kinds of eating disorders in high school. Then I swung the other way and partied and gained a bunch of weight and got really bloated and everything in between. For me, food was a way to project my uncomfortable emotions and feelings and I think that’s true for a lot of people.
The way that we heal the food cornerstone is with practical food tips so that it takes out some of that stressful decision making and the thinking so that you fall into more of a flow of knowing what to do and the tools and practices of honing your own intuition.
How the food connects with your individual makeup, your individual body, and how it’s important to support all of the cornerstones if you’re looking to heal food. We don’t just focus on food, however, we also work on emotional wellbeing so that we have tools to process our emotions and release them back into flow and back through us. We want it to be delicious, and we also want it to be deeply nourishing and supportive to our overall goals.

And together, these cornerstone really become the foundation for how you feel in your life, your experience of life. And it’s important that we heal our relationship with food, which is such an important energy channel. And it can also be an enormous energy drain because food is not the end goal, right? We wanna heal the relationship so that it is supportive of our overall energy, our overall life goals, what we wanna create in our lives, the joy, the peace, the bliss, the, just the feeling energized revitalized, but we don’t want it to be a distraction.
Kimberly: 01:02 We do don’t wanna be obsessive about food or confused. Frustrated. I know about all of this so well, because as you may know, if you’ve, if we’ve been together for a while, but if you’re new, I’ll share this with you. Now, I’ve had a, you know, pretty wild, crazy ride relationship with food for the past few decades where I went, you know, through different kinds of eating disorders in high school. And then I, you know, swung the other way and partied and gained a bunch of weight and got really bloated and then everything in between. And so for me, food was a weight to really project my uncomfortable emotions and feelings. And I think that’s true for a lot of people. And so the way that we heal the food cornerstone is in practical ways today we’re to be talking about a lot of practical food tips so that you, you, it takes out some of that stressful decision making and the thinking so that you fall into a pattern, more of a flow of knowing what to do and, and the tools and the practices.
Kimberly: 02:15 And today we’re, we’re talking about honing your own intuition. So how the food connects with your individual makeup, your individual body, but we’re also gonna talk a bit about how it’s important to support all of the cornerstones if you’re looking to heal food. So we don’t just focus on food, but for instance, we also talk about, we work on emotional wellbeing so that we have tools to process our emotions and release them back into flow, back into, um, just through us. They just run through us and then we have a less emotional relationship with food. It becomes more about, yes, of course we want it to be delicious, but we also want it be deeply nourishing and again, supportive to our overall goals.

Kimberly: 05:24 And I think back, wow, food controlled so much of my life before. So much of my thoughts were about food, what to eat, what not to eat, analyzing, you know, blah, blah, blah, that when you strip that back, wow, the freedom and the expansive energy that you free up. So I recommend to all of you, any of you listening to this podcast right now, interested in this topic, please be sure to check out you are more than you think you are. Because as I said, we’ll talk about tips today related to food, but in a deeper sense to create that freedom that we all want, where we can just live and not be overthinking over, analyzing with food, the tools and practices for the deeper parts of you, the mental, emotional, spiritual parts of you is ultimately what it’s gonna heal your food relationship. It’s not gonna come from the food.
Kimberly: 06:21 We don’t go to find the solution where the problem is because then we’re still in that same thinking. We need to go wider and more holistic. So please check it out. Let’s get into them now. Practical ways to heal your relationship with food by feeling into your intuition.
Question #1 around the topic of: Practical Ways to Heal Your Relationship with Food by Feeling Into Your Intuition: I’m so tired of being careful about when and what I eat. Is there an easier way to manage healthy eating without feeling like I’m being so calculated?
Kimberly: 06:21 So Francine writes, I’m so tired. Francine is from England. First of all, my love, I was so excited. I saw your question. I wanted to get ahead, but I just wanna acknowledge our beauty from overseas. Thank you. My love. I do love England so much. I have so many close friends that are English and British Welsh and Scottish, and I love that part of the world.
Kimberly: 07:14 And so sending you a big warm hug, I just love that we’re connected overseas you, right? I am so tired of being careful about what and what to eat. Is there an easier way to manage healthy eating without feeling like I’m being so calculated? Yes. And yes, this idea of, you know, being careful creates real rigidity that starts to emanate throughout our life waves. We’re always checking the charts, writing numbers, and that starts to build tension in the body. It can affect your hormones. It can disrupt your nervous system. It really does have an effect on your overall energy. So we wanna move attention, weight from all those calculations. We want move into a place where we’re more intuitive about the need, the energetic needs of our bodies. That being said, we need to create a bridge between a very calculated approach and being free because it doesn’t happen overnight.
Kimberly: 08:16 So a couple things here, number one for scene, if you haven’t seen our day roadmap to healthy weight loss, I recommend checking it out because I hold your hand through this process of learning how to eat by filling up with fiber eating light, to heavy simplifying your meals, proper food, combining reusing leftovers. And so you get into this flow of trusting that the food that you’re eating is going to digest well, it’s not gonna make you fat it’s filling. And on the daily schedule, there’ll be a little bit of a there’s some numbers like the daily calorie count and so on and so forth. So there’s that bridge of starting to trust, moving away from the numbers, but seeing that they’re there and it’s okay. And that was the sort of bridge that I went through. And I’ve taken many clients through this similar bridge of trust, trust, and energy.
Kimberly: 09:13 The ego is the overanalyzing fearful part of us. So the ego likes to cling to numbers. When we drop down into the true self, when we drop down into this, you know, deeper part of us, the true self is not, is not operating on numbers at all. The true self is connected to N energy. So what I would say is, number one, Francine, check out that 30 day Roadmap, which might be really useful to you. Number two, if you haven’t read the beauty detox solution, I go into a lot more detail about light to heavy and food combining, but I’ll say here that you wanna start the day in this flow where you are not weighing down your body so much in the morning. So what I think of is, and I use this analogy in the beauty detox solution is a waterfall, right? This con consistent flow of energy, which means things are moving through your GI tract.
Kimberly: 10:12 I also use the analogy of a, of a traffic jam. So if you put a big truck in the morning, let’s say you eat a bunch of, um, eggs, an egg sandwich, you’ve got a bunch of gluten in there and eggs and maybe throw in some cheese. And now your body has to digest that food for hours and hours and hours. And I don’t care if it’s low fat cheese and it’s a bunch of egg whites, you know, it’s you, the charts will say, oh, look at these calories and calories from an energetic standpoint, we don’t wanna feel way down and heavy in the morning because then our energy’s pulled there and we don’t feel the clarity and the, and the vitality that we want as we go into the day. So what I would, um, recommend that you consider Francine is starting the day with that light to heavy flow in the morning, our morning routine, which I’ve talked about here before hot water with lemon, the Solluna SBO probiotics, Glowing Green Smoothie®, and then start to Intuit how your, how your, um, day flows.
Kimberly: 11:13 I’ll use myself as an example, I have that morning practice and my, my body generally needs food by 10 or 11. So I start to feel that real urge to eat. And I eat almost the same thing. Every mid morning, I eat a gluten free wrap with avocado and tomatoes and sprout it, hummus and broccoli sprouts, and a little bit of sea salt. And that intuitively has the substance and enough fat and protein. And, and it just, it feels like a, a little bit more density without weighing me down to get through the next few hours, because I’m very busy in the morning, especially when Moses is napping and BU is at kindergarten. I crank. So I do not wanna feel heavy as I’m sure you do not want to either. You probably have a very busy morning as well as most all of us do.
Kimberly: 12:11 So we to feel what will give my body the energy, but not weigh it down. Okay. And then the next meal I have is, and then I, you know, work, then I do my walk and then I kind of have a, like a little bit of a later lunch and, you know, dinner. So I’m, you know, I’m not, not here to share every single day until my own, um, schedule, but what I wanna say, Francine is experiment with just going into a, a light to heavy flow. So it opens up the pathways for your digestion. So that means don’t eat the heaviest meal, right? When you get up, wait a few hours, try that morning routine and, and, um, you know, build from there, but really start with lightening up your mornings. And that will really help you be more intuitive as you get later into the day, but we don’t wanna change everything at once.
Kimberly: 13:07 I’ve seen so many people try to do that, and then they end up crashing in a few days. So just focus on lightening up your mornings, hydrating, like I said, the hot water with lemon really nourishing your gut health. And then in the meantime, check out those other deeper resources, the book, my first book, and then, um, the roadmap, which will give you a lot more detail there on intuitive eating and connecting in with your body. And then the third thing I would say that I think would be really helpful to you, Francine is to do a meditation every morning. And you can try, you can try out one of our free practical enlightenment meditations, which are in the app or on the website, if that speaks to you, they’re guided or anyone that speaks to you, of course. But when you start the day in this more centered place, it means that we are more into, so we can better discern what our bodies need without being so calculated.
Kimberly: 14:02 And we are just more, we’re more in a flow state. So I definitely recommend doing a meditation, even if it’s just five minutes in the morning, a lot of our meditations are five or seven minutes doing that to really prepare you to go the day with less reactivity, more, uh, deeper intuition and connection, and that will really help, but please check out all those resources. I’m excited for you because I, I remember getting to this point where I was so frustrated with food and calculations that it’s like from that rock bottom place, we’re so reset, like, please help me find a different way. Kimberly: 15:06 All right. Our next question comes from Darcy who lives in Minnesota and you write my love. I love your new book so far, Kimberly, and I’m wondering if there is a chapter I can read right away that will help with my eating disorder. So Darcy my love, thank you so much for writing us. And I feel like right now, I just wanna hold your hand. I’ve been through eating disorders myself, and it sucks because if you’re an alcoholic, you can just, you know, it’s hard too of obviously, but you can get rid of the alcohol in the house, but when you have an eating disorder, you have to face this struggle multiple times a day, and it’s very difficult, um, you know, challenging thing to move past. So of course, Darcy professional help may be warranted counseling, so on and so forth. So I, you know, I just wanna say that off the bat. And then second of all, I didn’t heal. I didn’t really heal my relationship with food Darcy. Like I said, until I, until I really started meditating sitting with myself and really starting to understand what was driving me into these behaviors, such as depriving myself of nourishment, because I was so concerned on about how things looked on the outside versus the connection and the feeling and the energy on the inside, and then not being able to maintain that. So then eventually, um, purging food and what was dry of it? Why was I putting myself through that? Because it was so important to me to be thin. And so underneath all of that was I found this, you know, almost frantic fear about,
Kimberly: 16:56 You know, PR proving, validating, Rous, being loved, being seen, being paid attention to. And it all for me back then was, you know, in the externals and how it looked and what people thought of me and all this stuff. So I had to really sit with that Darcy and, and then the healing started to come because when I saw it little by little, I started to reel realize, oh, but it is my interstate. That is what is important here. And I can learn to love myself and I can validate myself. And then what happened to me was this outside obsession with weight just started to fall away really naturally. And it came bit by it. I would say the spiritual journey is nonlinear. So sometimes I had these big realizations and sometimes I would go back into old patterns and old thinking, but I would never go all the way back because I started to understand more and more about myself through the underlying urges and the behaviors and the energies, and, and really start to see what the limited beliefs were.
Kimberly: 18:05 So I would say Darcy, it’s really important for you. My love, please go through the book in order. And it was, it is written in the way that will support you the most in your growth. Part. One is about getting past the fears and the blocks. So I really urge you to go through and understand more about your fears, do the practices, and then the wholeness chapter, start to understand more about your wholeness and tap into that. That was a huge, huge, huge, huge practice for me and letting go of shame and that sun moon practice. I describe I’ve done myself many times and it keeps healing. I keep sitting with that unprocessed energy and I feel the heart racing. And then I realize, oh, this is just tr trauma from my childhood. And I don’t have to have these limited beliefs anymore. And so when I started to see them, I started to heal and then the food started to heal.
Kimberly: 18:58 And then the ironic thing is, you know, once in a while, when I happened to weigh myself for something or, you know, doctor’s appointment or whatever, you know, my weight is where I wanted it to be when I was struggling so much. So my body, it just, it kind of does, you know, it’s great. It does what I want it to do, but I don’t have to obsess because I’m taking care of the energy inside. So I would say again, the emotional wellbeing, spiritual growth is such a huge part of this. When we feel that or peace, it’s not just, oh, a nice, happy feeling. It starts to create sync ity in harmony throughout your body. You start to feel, um, the calming of your blood pressure, the calming of your nervous system. And then what this does is your hormones, again, start to regulate, and it becomes easier for your body to regulate itself into your ideal weight.
Kimberly: 19:57 It doesn’t have to hold onto excess weight, right? And we don’t have to do these frantic behaviors to try to control things. Those are all the desperate, um, mechanisms of the ego, which is just trying so hard. You know, the ego is struggling. Ego feels fear. The ego is trying to protect us, but the ego is the mind chatter. It’s the overthinking. So we need to go underneath the overthinking to heal in a deeper level. So Darcy my love, like I said, please read the book in the order. Part. One is getting rid of the blocks. Part two is tapping into your power. So one of those chapters is you are an intuitive body. So it’s how we understand that we need to get out of the head and the overthinking and drop down into this deeper place. The sensing behind the thinking. And we get to that from, we connect to that more and more in our, me, from our meditation practice that we do regularly.
Kimberly: 20:58 And then part three is where we create magic. It’s where we manifest. So in your case, Darcy here, we could say, Hey, I wanna create a really healthy, inner body full of vitality. And I don’t want to struggle. I no longer choose eating disorders. I no longer will, um, beat up my own body, right? But we wanna work on parts one and two removing the fear and the underlying nest. And then getting to know who Darcy is beyond the, she L the focus on the weight and what the body looks like. And then we go into creating this whole beautiful new path. So check it out, Darcy. Welcome to the community. I’m so happy you’re here. Yes, yes. And yes, I feel so strongly about it that I let it go because I live it. I don’t think anymore about it. And that’s when you know that you are in a empowered place with something, right. It’s just, oh, I just do it. I wrote that book 10 years ago and I live that lifestyle of eating every day, but here’s the thing I don’t, again, I just, I don’t even think about it.
Kimberly: 23:22 I just do. I just make the GGS, I know how to properly food combined. So I just, you know, create, I just cook that way for the family. I, I just know what to eat. There is the, um, the egoic way again. So let’s just break that down for a second, because that is really the crux of what I’m talking about in the new book as well is ego is fear, overthinking mind, limitations, smallness. The true self is soul spirit individualized, this expanded place inside of us, our energy expanded. So when we go into this place, again, numbers do not exist, which are fine and super limited. So the beauty detox solution lays out how to eat and live from a place of energetic understanding. So I live it, Katie, I, I really live it. And then I moved on. I moved beyond that in my writing and in my work because I, you know, I don’t jump around the, the egoic approach is maybe there’s more, maybe I could be doing more.
Kimberly: 24:30 Maybe I’m not doing enough. Maybe I need to try different diets constantly. Maybe I need to do another cleanse again and again and again, but when we relax into truth and to understanding simplicity, when I say truth, I mean, a natural foods connected to nature, simplicity, you know, these, these concepts that are, that feel good, you know, again, and, and, and sit with that. I would say, use your, your own intuition, Katie, as you read the beauty detox solution, what does your gut tell you, you know, and discussing anatomy, discussing these, you know, concepts of food combining and, and simplifying and focusing on digestion. What does your intuition tell you? I had been through so many different diets. I had struggled so much. I was overthinking. So when I came to create this philosophy and I started living it, it literally opened up the door for so much, for love, for healing, for deep healing, for deep creativity, because it supported my body and I was getting what I needed.
Kimberly: 25:46 And I didn’t have to upset about what my body looked like because I was digesting well and nourishing myself. And my ideal weight was there. And then massive amount of my brain energy, as I mentioned earlier, was freed up and that channeled into creative projects, like writing more books and spending time with my amazing family and all these things. So it is so important, Katie, that, you know, you’re here, you’re writing this question because, um, you don’t wanna dread it. You wanna have this healthy, joyful way. So for me, where I sit today is I don’t feel attachment to food. I do get excited about things, and I like, like things to taste good, but I’ve released, I would say 90% of the over emotional attachment so that I enjoy dinner with my family. For me, it’s more about the grace and the gratitude and the talking and I don’t need, um, I just don’t think about food so much, which is, you know, completely opposite to where I was, where it was my whole life and my thoughts.
Kimberly: 26:55 So it is possible Katie to go to that place. And what it takes is dropping into your intuition for this, you know, an eating and, and for me, my belief system is, you know, again, I talk about energy so much that how we approach food should not be predicated on numbers, tools of the mind that are, you know, pretty limited ultimately. So the more we tap in, we realize, oh, everything is energy. So let me work with the energy of my body. Let me feel into the energy of these foods. And in that book, I talk about what digest more easily than others. So we understand that, oh, I don’t just, I’m not, you know, just this like machine, but my body has to assimilate break down and excrete, all this food. Like this is a huge energetic process. Question #4 around the topic of: Practical Ways to Heal Your Relationship with Food by Feeling Into Your Intuition: Kimberly, it seems you have a peaceful relationship with food. How long did this take you and do you sometimes fall off track? I know I should eat more plants but I’m struggling with what my belly wants and what my mind thinks I should be eating. I’m so over the struggle! Any tips I’d be ever grateful for!
Kimberly: 27:50 All right. And our last and final question comes from Amy, who lives in New Hampshire and she writes Kimberly. It seems you have a peaceful relationship with food. How long did this take you? And do you sometimes fall off track? I know I should eat more plants, but I’m struggling with what my belly wants and what my mind thinks I should be eating I’m. So over the struggle, any tips I’d be grateful for. So Amy, thank you. My love. Yes. I do have a peaceful really relationship as I was staying with Katie. I do fall off track, but I just, I, I don’t have that emotion. You know, I healed so much of the emotional, um, unprocessed needs and, and wounds inside of myself.
Kimberly: 28:42 It really changed my relationship with food. And I wrote that 10 years ago. Um, but this more non-attached state that I’m in now, I would say is, you know, been building and building really over the past five years, it’s gotten really just more and more paired down more and more simple. And so what you’re talking about here, struggling with what your belly wants and your mind thinks. So we need to get to that place, Amy, where you trust basic principles, and then you move away from overthinking, which will only create more fear and confusion, and you won’t be able to feel, hear the voice of your intuition. So again, similar early to, um, Katie and Darcy and El Francine, I recommend checking out some of our programs to give you a basic framework, like the beauty detox solution, the roadmap, but the meditations are really important because that is our number one tool for dropping into the body and getting out of the overthinking mind, overthinking will limit us.
Kimberly: 29:56 So intuition is related to truth. So we just move now actually towards something. And when I felt the truth of something, you know, it may take a little while to get rid of food. It took me two years to really fully give up cheese because I love dairy cheese so much. Right? So some of it took a little bit of time, Amy, but once I was past it, I was past it. And so what we’re looking for is sustain, sustained and sustainable long term shifts. Right. We don’t wanna just look good or try a diet for a month or six months or two months, and then feel like crap again, we wanna keep moving forward. So it’s okay. Four steps forward, two steps back, four steps forward, one step back, four steps forward, three steps back, especially over the holidays, right. It’s okay. We just keep moving forward.
Kimberly: 30:53 So I would say three things for you, Amy, number one, knowledge, right? Don’t overthink. Like I said, check out the resources like the beauty detox solution, just to be ex goes to a different way of looking at food. Number two, try some of the practices in the book that really are about connecting to the wisdom of your body. Even just taking a, you know, a simple, deep breath with your hands on your belly, three deep breaths, and just feeling the breath rise and going into that again, just underneath the thinking mind, connect with your breath, connect with your body, and then meditate, meditate in the evening, meditate in the morning, whatever you can do, Amy is how we really start to witness rather than identify with the mind patterns. And then we start to create more and more of that freedom. And then that freedom from meditation starts to match up with the knowledge that you’re learning from those other resources.
Kimberly: 31:57 So then you can start to apply it and live it from this deeper, more intuitive place or not boxed in with these numbers and do this and don’t do that. And the rigidity versus just okay. Feeling and allowing ourselves to move in the direction of different foods, um, different energies and simplifying things more and more and supporting our bodies. And then when we start to get a little bit of a, so in medicine, we say that 40 days Amy is a cycle of change. So I would say, you know, check out those resources, meditate, you know, try these, um, body practices, put a little more energy into it in the first 40 days. Not that we’re doing 40 days and dropping off, but a little bit more energy to get the roots into the earth. And then after that, we’ll start to build and build and build over time.
Kimberly: 32:53 But keep it really simple in the morning. Uh, keep it simple. Like I was saying to Fran, maybe just start with the morning per practice and hot water with lemon, very basic things and build them, build the foundation. Don’t try to jump into everything or analyze, oh man, I guess I, you know, the people that look so good, they everybody’s eating keto. It seems like are, Hmm, should I go back to paleo? Whatever it is, just stop. All the thinking, go into the body. They keep it basic and start to build a daily rhythm in a daily routine from the morning. And again, the resources are there. We will link to them in the show notes and you will start to build. And the fact that you’re asking this question, you’re starting to understand that there is a difference between the body, the body’s intuition and what the body really needs and what the mind is telling you.
Kimberly: 33:41 And so again, when we, when we have the, the, the wisdom and the deeper connection to the bodies, to the body, to the space, through the meditation, then we start to open up freedom across our lives. And we will see that in your relationship with food, you’ll feel more. You’ll just know you’ll just be guided more to what to eat, and you’ll start to into it when you are done eating and you don’t have to over stuff. And then when something happens, like you get in a fight with your friend, or there’s a stressful email that comes in from work, you’ll have tools to reregulate your breathing in your body and drop into of this place without reaching for a cheat meal or a bunch of ice cream or whatever it is.
