This week’s topic: Unlock Your Fertility Potential: 5 Ways to Safely Detoxify
Hi loves, welcome back to our Thursday Q &A show where today we’re going to be talking about fertility and specifically unlocking your fertility potential and safe ways to detoxify your body. And this is a huge topic because many of our amazing community members are thinking about fertility or if you’re not,
This whole topic around detoxifying can still very much apply to you. You may have friends or loved ones that are thinking about conceiving right now. So this is a very important topic. And as I mentioned, it’s wider than just thinking about fertility, although that is the focus today. But when we consider that the human body is meant to reproduce, we’re meant to have these functions in the body, digestion and circulation and reproduction.

STUDIES AND LINK ON TOPIC
A study published in the journal Fertility and Sterility (2018) examined the impact of environmental toxins on female fertility. The researchers found associations between exposure to certain environmental pollutants (such as pesticides, bisphenol A, and phthalates) and decreased fertility outcomes, including reduced ovarian reserve and lower pregnancy rates.
A study in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (2022) explored the effects of lifestyle changes and detoxification strategies on male infertility. The study emphasized the importance of diet modifications, exercise, and avoidance of toxins to improve sperm quality and male fertility. Therefore, the role of daily nutrient exposure needs to be highlighted to preserve male fertility or to prevent male infertility. A strong adherence to a healthy dietary pattern based mainly on plant foods is positively correlated with indicators of sperm quality.
Oxidative stress has been implicated in female infertility. A (2023) study in the MDPI Journals examined the impact of antioxidants and detoxification strategies on women undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatments. The findings suggested that reducing oxidative stress through supplementing with antioxidants during the treatment of infertility might improve the outcome of assisted reproduction techniques.
A study in the National Library of Medicine in (2023) on the influence of dietary patterns on reproductive health and fertility outcomes. Healthful dietary patterns were associated with better fertility outcomes in both men and women.
Research in Translational Andrology and Urology (2020) reviewed the impact of exposure to toxicants on male fertility. The study discussed how toxins can disrupt spermatogenesis and affect sperm quality, emphasizing the importance of reducing exposure to environmental toxins for optimal male reproductive health.

Kimberly Snyder (00:01.038)
Hi loves, welcome back to our Thursday Q &A show where today we’re going to be talking about fertility and specifically unlocking your fertility potential, safe ways to detoxify your body.
And we live in this world today, which unfortunately, as we all know, is being bombarded more and more by chemicals. There’s more toxicity in the air, in the water supply, in the food supply. And so it’s us, it’s up to us to self -advocate and to really take a interest in how we can best protect ourselves, how we can best clean our spaces out so we can be as healthy and vital as possible.
So this is a topic that’s also very close to my heart, of course, because as a mama myself to two beautiful children, I would want everyone to have the opportunity to have a family and to have healthy, beautiful children if that is one of their goals. So I’m very excited to get into our show today. Reminder, still reminding us on here. It’s still fairly new in the history of our podcast that we are on video. So if you’d like to…
tune in. You can check out my YouTube channel. I’m waving. I’m here in my personal office and my space, my sanctuary. So I can share a little bit of this energy here with you. It’s nice to be together there, but it’s also great if you like to listen to the show while you’re walking your dog or driving in your car or cleaning your bathroom or whatever you happen to be doing. So we have both options available for you. And also we will have the show notes on mysaloon .com.

where you can check out these research links and other resources that I think would benefit you tremendously. All right, let’s get right into our question today. So this is around the body cornerstone, right? We’re talking about detoxifying the body, but this is on all levels. And we’re talking about detoxifying and cleansing. It puts us back in more close in touch with our true nature. So it means that our emotions and our hormones, everything starts to become more balanced and more harmonious.
And also back in touch with our true self, this unlimited potential. It’s the ego, it’s the living in this modern world that can create these disturbances, these impurities. And so as we start to clean out in a multi -level approach, we start to come back to that true self, that incredible energy inside of us that has the potential to manifest and create, including healthy children.
And so our question today comes from Lori who lives in Nebraska. Hi Lori, sending you much love out there. A state I’ve never been to, but of course I would love to check it out one day. I hear it’s quite beautiful. I have our dear friend, Dr. Roland McCready, who’s been on here several times talking about heart coherence. He’s actually from Nebraska. And you write, I’ve read that a woman’s reproductive potential decreases with age and the chance of pregnancy decreases.
and the risk of miscarriage increases. I’m in my 30s and not yet ready to have babies, but I do want to keep my body healthy for when I’m ready. What can you suggest for me to start doing now so that I have a higher chance of fertility?” So, Lori, thank you so much for your question and highlighting this important topic. And I want to say that, first of all, there are many things that we can do. Everything is not in our complete control, but there are many things that we can do.
to really nourish our fertility and to give us the best chance for conceiving and having beautiful, healthy children. So there are statistics out there, and I think that a lot of them, again, we’re talking about statistics, we’re not talking about on the individual level. And when I read and dig into the research, I think that there is a lot to do with microplastics and…
Kimberly Snyder (04:42.574)
phthalates and BPA and these endocrine disruptors and things that are in the food supply and they’re in cleaning products. And so there is a lot that we can do to clean up these spaces. I’ll also say that in my next books that are coming out, Chilla Girl and Linky Lemur Journey to the Heart is a children and family heart coherence book out on May 28th, but you can pre -order now. And my next adult book, which is out in September,
talks about how we can create this syncing up in our body known as heart coherence. And research that I will be sharing soon in that adult book shows that through creating this heart coherence, we can actually create, there was a research study that showed 100 % increase in DHEA in one month. So I’ll be publishing the heart aligned meditation, which is based on this research of how we create this deep syncing up in our system.
But I bring this to the forefront here because DHEA has been shown to be important for optimal pregnancy, especially with ovarian reserve and egg quality, and especially in women in their late 30s. So I bring this up to say that yes, Lori and all of you listening, whilst there are statistics and fertility doctors will say, statistically showing as we get older, there would be a decrease in fertility and all these different
statistics on an individual level, we can regenerate, we can rejuvenate our bodies, we can put ourselves in the best possible position. And there are many ways to do this from, as we’ll talk about in the show today, cleaning up the space and detoxing in a very safe way for the long term, which is definitely going to help your fertility chances.
And then also, as we will get into in the next few months, incorporating some of these techniques for keeping yourself out of stress responses, putting yourself in a more optimal state of vitality, which we can do through emotional management, emotional intelligence techniques and meditation. You will be able to create so much more energy and flow in your body. And the more we do this, the more we build our fertility. Everything is so interconnected.
Kimberly Snyder (07:05.39)
So I want you to leave today’s show feeling empowered and that there are many things that you can do and not to stress or, you know, just freak out because you happen to be in your thirties and you aren’t yet ready to have children, which is a position for many, many people. Right. So right now we just take a deep breath. We educate ourselves. We fortify ourselves with knowledge and wisdom. And then we move.
forward, making the best possible daily choices. So the first thing I want to talk about is that there is very real effect of environmental toxins on fertility. A study published in the journal Fertility and Sterility, what name for that journal, in 2018 examined the impact of environmental toxins on female fertility and they found that there was a…
connection between exposure to pollutants such as pesticides, bisphenol A, BPAA, and phthalates that decreased fertility outcomes, increasing reduced ovarian reserve and lower pregnancy rates. So this is concerning but also empowering to know, hey, there’s things that I can do to avoid these very toxins. Number one, we want to choose organic as much as possible.
local, grow your own food, do whatever you can to avoid pesticide exposure. Now, if cost is prohibitive, there are these chains right now like Costco, these larger chains in bulk where you can get organic produce. They are marked with the green labels. I know because our family does shop at Costco for part of our food and household items.
I think it’s a great option for many of us, especially because it makes it more affordable. The other thing that you can do is to support local, local farmers markets. You can talk to the farmers and see if they’re using pesticides. Sometimes they’re not marked as organic, but they’re still using these amazing practices and you can support local as well. As far as the Bisphenol A, you want to make sure that you are using the cleanest products on your skin, in your home.
Kimberly Snyder (09:26.126)
care in your cleaning. We know that air pollution, I’ve talked about this as I’ve talked about certain air purifiers that I love, can be 100 times worse than outdoor air pollution. So we want to make sure that we are creating as fresh as possible a home space. That means not spraying things like Febreze in the air.
using natural essential oils or natural scents or flowers to make your home smell good. And going back to basic vinegar and even lemons to clean your stove tops, very simple ingredients to create a wonderful and clean home space. And I want to note that I was reading something recently about even these so -called non -toxic candles, but scented candles.
can emit phthalates into the air that we in turn would breathe taken through the lungs and they would also bring toxicity into your body. So I urge you with anything that you’re burning in your home space, even these candles, incense, you really are careful about the sourcing and maybe just go to unscented. That’s what I did. And just keep it really clean and really simple. A study in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences,
recently in 2022, found that the effects of lifestyle changes and detoxification strategies were very beneficial on male in fertility. And this included having more plant foods, I love to see that, higher nutrient exposure, and avoiding toxins. This helped to increase sperm quality, sperm motility, and overall male fertility.
What I love about plant -based foods is that there is, by definition, a lower toxicity load. 90 % of our dioxin exposure and our exposure to certain toxins comes in through animal products. And that is because these toxins bioaccumulate as you go higher up the food chain. And we’ve had a wonderful interview by Dr. Neal Bernard where we talked about fertility specifically.
Kimberly Snyder (11:42.542)
And there’s a part of the microbiome, the astrobalone, I believe I’m saying that right, which has to do with our fertility and managing our hormones correctly. So plant foods mean fiber. They mean less toxicity, taking less toxicity into the body and so many nutrients. So when we come up with our holistic, when we finally offer our holistic mama fertility course in the next few months,
We will emphasize that it doesn’t mean you have to be fully plant based, but if you really want to increase your chances of fertility, there’s so much research around why being plant forward for you and your partner, if you have one, are going to be hugely impactful. So lots of colorful veggies, seasonal, local, fresh, delicious, simply prepared. Drink your glowing green smoothie. Also, you know, Ayurvedic.
Wisdom says we want those cooked stews and soups and cooked food as well, but I’m an advocate for both. I have been also putting a lot of broccoli sprouts and microgreens in my Power Protein smoothie lately just to get more of those amazing veggies in. So you can up your intake of nutrient -dense foods just to get a lot of those cleansing, healing vegetables in. And that is wonderful for your fertility as well.
Another research that I want to stress has to do with oxidative stress and detoxification. This study was specifically around antioxidants, detoxification strategies, and the success of assisted reproductive technology treatments, which are available for many out there, which include IVF and using medical aids to help with your reproductive processes. I have several friends that have gone down this route.
including several friends who are single moms by choice and decided that they wanted to have kids and they were in their late 30s and they didn’t have a partner yet. And so decided to go this route. And so they are really happy to be mothers now and happy as they are and also open to the possibility of partnership down the road. But we are in an age now where there are all kinds of options available.
Kimberly Snyder (14:05.326)
And so this found that supplementing with antioxidants during this time of wanting to encourage conception was found to improve the outcome of assisted reproductive techniques. And this also included detoxification strategies. So again, back to lowering toxicity, having more organic, better cleaning products, and those antioxidants and supplements could include…
CoQ10 DHEA, although we can manufacture that naturally in the body through certain practices that are based in heart coherence and meditation and making sure you’re on a really well -rounded whole food based prenatal. I also recommend getting on a DHA, algae based DHA EPA supplement as well because those healthy fats can be really important for the cognitive development of baby in the first few weeks.
And just making sure your diet is on point. Lots of greens, lots of vegetables, lots of fruit. And by nature of that, you will have lots of fiber. So speaking of diet, the National Library of Medicine in 2023 found that there was a impact on dietary patterns, and reproductive health, and fertility outcome. And this was associated with better fertility outcomes for both men and women. So diet matters. What we put into our bodies.
The food that we are eating has a huge effect on our energy. It’s what is creating the tissues or the DATUs, what are known as in our uvata. It’s creating our bone and our tissues and our organs. And it is, you know, part of egg quality and our fertility and our body’s ability to not just produce healthy eggs, but to assist in the implantation process all the way through to.
you know, through pregnancy to birth. So we want to make sure that we’re making great choices. We want to stay away from processed foods, low quality foods, lower in energy, high in processed sugars and things that are just not nourishing to the body. I also believe it is helpful to eat more plant -forward, reducing all processed meats, but definitely fish even has high microplastics and lots of toxicity.
Kimberly Snyder (16:28.75)
dairy. There’s so many amazing alternatives for calcium these days and nut -based milks and cheeses. We don’t really want to have dairy in our system. There was research in Dr. Neal Bernard’s last book that I just interviewed him for a few weeks ago called The Power Foods Diet. I’m looking at it right now on my shelf where he talked about how there was a study he referenced about dairy in particular reducing male.
fertility. So there are many reasons to be plant -based during this period or largely plant -based. And I can say from personal experience, I had a, you know, an easeful time conceiving my two children being fully plant -based. They have been fully plant -based since conception. They are exceptionally healthy. So my children were both almost nine pounds. They were healthy big babies.
So it’s something that is definitely a nourishing way to live and to, you know, for these sacred periods in life, I wholeheartedly believe that. And last piece of research I wanted to highlight was from the journal, Translational Andrology and Urology. This is from 2020. And it reviewed the impact of exposures to toxins on male fertility, which found this was examining how toxins can disrupt
spermatogenesis and affects sperm quality, emphasizing the importance of reducing exposure to environmental toxins for optimal male reproductive health. So there’s so many ways that we can do this. I’m also going to include in our show notes, a link to my podcast with Darren Olean, who focuses on this a lot in his work. He talks a lot about toxic exposure.
and how important it is to clean our systems and our spaces, everything where we spend a lot of time. This includes where we sleep, where we cook our food, what we are eating, where we are working, our office space. So sometimes I do Zooms and I look at people where they are sitting in their office and I think, oh my gosh, I could see the, you know, like the Clorox and the, like those little pine trees.
Kimberly Snyder (18:50.094)
you know, what do you call it? Sometimes you see them in taxi cabs, like kind of like the Febreze, like these artificial fragrance smelling units. And I just think, oh my gosh, please change up some of those products. So this also ties in with houseplants. And we recently did a podcast, which we will link to as well on how you can clean your home environment and create a really sacred space for creativity. And one of those aspects was houseplants.
House plants will clean your air. So one of the things I want to say is fill your house with house plants because they’re beautiful. They add that green vibrancy of nature and they are cleaning the air. If you can invest in some amazing air filtration systems, they are definitely worth it. They can be pricey upfront, but then long -term you are cleaning the air so your lungs don’t have to filter.
And there are some that I love. And so we will link to those in the show notes as well. Water. I wholeheartedly recommend a water unit for sure, for your drinking water. There are some really affordable ones out there that have a five step process. There are a couple of hundred dollars. You can look on Amazon. You can look at Home Depot. You can look at ones that are convenient for.
you to install, but it’s so much more effective than just using a Brita or using lots of plastic bottles which have their own issues because of the plastic leaching in. We want to really avoid plastic water bottles as much as possible. Water is huge. And the next part of this is that we absorb it through our skin. So please get a shower filter or if you own your home, it is an investment, but I definitely recommend.
getting a whole house water filter, which is something that we did a few years ago here in my California home because we had tested our water and we found the arsenic and the heavy metal content in our water was huge. And so when you do a whole house filter, it means that the water that’s cleaning your clothes, washing your vegetables, all through the home is clean and toxin free. And that’s definitely something that we want to create.
Kimberly Snyder (21:08.622)
It’s also really important, as I mentioned, to pay attention to our diet. What are we putting into our bodies day in and day out, besides the water that we’re drinking, right? So it means choosing organic, non -GMO as much as possible. If this is prohibitive, and sometimes I know that organic can be more expensive, especially if you’re not able to source it from a local farmer’s market or you live in a food desert, please soak your veggies.
in filtered water and this will help to remove some of the toxin exposure. The environmental, my gosh, I’m just spacing on their name. Oh my gosh, what did I, they put out, let me think of it in just a moment. I can’t believe I spaced on their name. We’ve had them on the podcast before and they are amazing.
I want to look it up right now, but I will link to it in the show notes. They put out the dirty dozen and the clean 15. So you can move more of your budget towards the dirty dozen. So for instance, we want our lettuces to be organic, but the clean 15 items, which mean they have the least amount of toxin exposure, usually include avocados. So you can save some money on, you know, buying organic celery, but maybe not getting organic or avocados and do your best.
And if you can grow some of your own food, herbs, sprouts, microgreens, any of these items, I love the lettuce grow, the food towers that we can put in our kitchens or in our yards, anything that we can do to create more cleanliness in our food supply is going to be huge for your fertility. And please do this with your partner as well.
We want to avoid the deli meats, the sliced meats, the nitrates, the sugars, the anything from a bag as much as possible. Of course, you know, there are treats. We sometimes like to have things my kids love. Chips. We get the different kinds. Sometimes we get those siate chips. We love to make guacamole as a family. So not everything can’t be in bags, but more of the, you know, just the processed.
Kimberly Snyder (23:23.246)
Oreos and Doritos and things like that. We definitely want to keep out of our systems as much as possible. I’m a huge advocate for simple cooking. I love simple cooking. And if you can just master a few simple dishes and save yourself from takeout, which most often is not organic, is using high inflammatory Omega -6 heavy oils.
which are inflaming your system, creating inflammation, which is not great for fertility. We want to do that as much as possible. It’s just to eat at home and to use lots of clean, fresh ingredients in our home space. It’s going to be huge for us. So food is definitely something that we want to emphasize. And then as I mentioned earlier, a clean home space.
not just the plants and the air filters what are cleaning, but we want to avoid putting toxins in in the first place. So please check out the non -toxic scent -free candles. I love a nice lavender candle as much as anyone else. But when I read this report about potential phthalates put into the air, I said, oh my gosh, I’m just going to keep it super simple from now on. There’s too much risk there. I don’t want to be inhaling that. So same thing with
The cleaning products we mentioned, do an inventory, do a clean out. It is worth it. Make sure that the sprays that you’re using, what you’re using to clean your floors, your windows are as toxin free as possible. And same thing for your partner. If you have one, you know, whether he or she, or, you know, if they, whatever gender that they identify with is being safe.
So if they have to use certain cleaning products or they are exposed to certain things, they are putting on gloves. They are shifting as much as possible. They are not inhaling these toxins. So it’s interesting because a child in my school, his father is a surfboard shaper. And I see him when we walk by their house wearing this really intense mask. And I think, thank God he’s doing that because he’s working with all these chemicals.
Kimberly Snyder (25:43.886)
And another friend of ours who is a professional surfer, now lives in Australia, his father was a surfboard shaper in the 60s and didn’t use those masks and now has some, you know, unfortunately lung cancer and a lot of health issues. So we just want to be aware that it is worth it to take precautions to protect our skin, our lungs as much as possible from these chemicals.
which break down the body. They are meant to clean and pesticides are meant to, you know, they’re neurotoxic. So they’re not meant to nourish us. So as much as possible, we want to keep them off our skin. We want to prevent ourselves from breathing them and doing everything that we can to avoid them. So another thing that’s really great for safely detoxifying your system is
huge amounts of hydration, optimal hydration day in and day out. The more hydrated we are, the more our natural detoxification pathways can work. When we are dehydrated, you’ll notice that you tend to get constipated. Your bowel movements are not as moist and beautifully shaped. They may be hard balls. So things are accruing in the body. Hydration is great for your lymphatic system to move the toxins through. So please drink lots of room temperature water, lots of GGS.
lots of teas, herbal teas, hot water with lemon. And then on the other side, you can be sure to do some dry skin brushing, which is wonderful for helping to move the lymphatic system, walking, exercise as well for circulation is always really great. Sweating to move toxins through your skin. If you are pregnant or suspect you are pregnant though,
I do not recommend going in any sort of sauna, whether it’s infrared or not. You don’t want to raise your body temperature to a certain level. So you can keep exercising and doing what you’re doing, but you definitely don’t want to overheat your body. Right? So be, um, be mindful of that. And then, um, as I mentioned, it’s important that we don’t get overly stressed out.
Kimberly Snyder (27:58.958)
The body will reduce its own resilience and create its own oxidative stress components when we are going into a stress response more and more per day. So we will cover this in more detail in other podcasts. But I just want to mention here, whilst we’re talking about the body, we can regulate the body. It’s not just about the chemicals. It’s what’s happening on an internal basis.
So just being aware of your breath. Notice when you get triggered, notice when something makes you react and you can just take time to calm yourself, regulate yourself and let these sensations move through you before you, you know, without just pretending they’re not there or moving on to the next thing or, um, you know, just making sure that we are able to, um, come back to a place of calm and peace.
So we build this capacity. And then I’ll be speaking a lot more and sharing more about heart coherence in the next few weeks and months. But as I mentioned, you can check out our Chilla Gorilla page right now. I’m putting up some meditation tracks for families and children this week. And making the shift to your heart alone starts this rewiring of your nervous system. And this means that from the heart up,
to the brain, you can start to create calmer thoughts. Calmer thoughts are more peaceful, more harmonious, your organs will be more in sync, there will be less acids and toxicity produced by your body. Your body’s immunity will also go up and your body’s resilience. So all of this is over interrelated. We want to control our home spaces. We also want to make sure that we are nourishing ourselves.
with our food and clean water. And we want to make sure that we are managing our emotional and mental wellbeing because that will also play a part, vital part in our fertility and our ability to be in our full vitality and energy. So there is much more to come on this topic. We will finally be offering our holistic mama fertility course in the upcoming weeks, but definitely check out our Chilla Gorilla book. You can pre -order it.
Kimberly Snyder (30:18.446)
and we will be putting up, keep your receipt, because we’ll be launching an amazing parent -child family event. Everyone who gets a pre -order will get a ticket for this amazing conference that I’ll be holding on coherence. So you can learn how you can actually change and rewire your nervous system and create hormonal balance from these research and evidence -based techniques.
Some of them are meditation, some of them are on the spot techniques, and this is all based on some amazing research. And we also did our own heart aligned meditation study in LA, and we found a 29 % increase in coherence. So this ability to create the syncing up greater health in your body, focus, clarity, getting past big feelings safely in four weeks.
So there is so much around this topic. I want you to feel empowered and that there is much that you can do for your fertility, for your health in general, and I will be with you every step of the way. So please check out the show notes to link to some of the other podcasts I think would be helpful, to link to some of our amazing recipes that I think would be helpful for detoxification, and keep your eye out for these amazing offerings happening.
Please join our mailing list if you haven’t yet already. We put out so much great information month to month, including our amazing newsletter. I will be back here Monday, as always, for our next interview show. Till then, take great care of yourself. Continue to detox, continue to nourish. And by the way, the Glowing Green Smoothie does both. It detoxes and it nourishes. So please drink that every day. Take great care. And I send you so much love. Namaste.
