It is time to deliberately step up the diet and add some great, beauty-building and health-building foods. Here are a few my faves:
Watercress: I know, it is bitter! I personally love the taste, but for some of us it can be a bit harsh. The key is to mix a little bit at a time with other greens. You can throw a bit in your Green Smoothies or chop some into your salads the way I do.
But it is worth the effort! Watercress is high in many minerals and is high in vitamins A, B1, B2, C and E. It is high in the beauty minerals of sulfur, manganese, calcium and iron, and has a high level of iodine which balances our thyroids. In the mustard family, watercress acts as an internal skin antiseptic and skin cleanser, as well as helping to clean the blood and increase the circulation and delivery of minerals to all the cells of the body.
Radishes: I talked about them last Spring also, and they are amazing! They are high in skin-beautifying sulfur, silicon and Vitamin C. They are said to be arguably the best mucus dissolving food for the digestive tract, which helps cleanses our systems. The cleaner and more free of toxins our systems are, the more beautiful we become.
Check out my Radish Salad Here.
Cucumbers: Of course! A classic beauty food. Because they are so high in water and are an amazing kidney cleanser, they are a diuretic and help prevent bloating due to water retention. The high shine of cucumber skins means they are high in silicon- just what helps give our hair shine!! I highly recommend getting organic cucumbers so you can get the beauty benefits of all that silicon. I NEVER peel my organic cucumbers!! Check out my recipe for Israeli Chopped Salad.
Apricots: Just coming into season now! I can’t wait until they start popping up at the Union Square Farmer’s Market here in NYC. Fresh apricots are an excellent source of the beauty Vitamins of A, C, E, as well as potassium, iron, and are a great source of beta-carotene. They are also a great natural laxative, due to the cellulose and pectin contents, which is great to keep things moving! Be sure to eat on an empty stomach.
Papayas: We can get them sourced from the Caribbean or Mexico pretty easily, so they are not always local. But I love!!!! I am in full papaya mode right now. I just cut the whole big thing in half, scoop out the seeds, and eat it like that for lunch with an avocado.
Papayas are also great to make our skin more beautiful. Full of enzymes and minerals, includes papain which is in enzyme which helps cleanse the skin. Also high in essential Vitamins A and C. Also be sure to eat on an empty stomach.
Happy beauty eating!!
I send all my love,
Kimberly

Hi Kim,
Love your blog! I will always think of you as my inspiration since you introduced me to one of my true loves, my Vitamix… LOL! :)
Quick question, is it ok to make a green smoothie w/papaya?
Thanks!
Kim Furio
Awesome Kim!! Thanks for the tips!! Excited to add these to my diet! :D
Thanks for all you do!
That’s great! Nice tips. Thanks a lot for sharing this information.
Hey Kimberly–
I’ve always been a little afraid of buying a papaya for myself because I think I heard somewhere that there’s a skin irritant in the peel or seeds? Am I making this memory up?
My most favorite snack ever is sliced cucumber and a squeez of lemon :)
All of these foods rock my world — except papaya. Every papaya I have ever tried tasted like feet!
I feel the same way about Papaya! Are they supposed to smell like funky feet/cheese and be kinda slimy?
No!! Shep no funky smell!! If it is slimy it is probably decaying in some way. It should be firm but not too firm, but never slimy!
Hi Kimberly,
I love love love your blog and all the wonderful info you have to offer :)…. For the past couple months I have changed my diet to about 90% raw based.. Yay!..but my face is breaking out tremendously. I heard this is part of the detox period and it shall pass, but can you tell me how long will this (breakout) take place and is there anyway to slow it down? Also can you recommend a facial cleanser/essential oil to use.
Hello! Thanks for doing this. Do you have any thoughts/experience on hypothyroidism and diet? I drink a lot of diet coke and wonder if this is where it caught up with me?
Ew… Emily the Diet Coke must GO!!!!!
Check out my blog on the thyroid, and one called, “The Diet That Makes You Fat.”
It has to go!!!!!!!!! Toxic and clogging and messes with your body!!
