We all need to stay hydrated to keep our skin and hair looking its absolute best, and to keep an optimal energy level. The question is: what are the best beverages to beautify us and help with this process?
Let’s start first with a few drink categories to avoid.
1. Tap water: I rank tap water pretty high upon the avoid list, since it is full of chlorine, heavy metals and contaminates, and trace prescription meds that aren’t all filtered out at the water processing plants. Get yourself a good water filter!
2. Artificial sweeteners: We should also avoid beverages that contain any type of artificial sweeteners. Besides aspartame, sucralose, acesulfame potassium and saccharin, also look out for chrystalline fructose, which is derived from corn. No artificial sweeteners are in line with promoting our natural beauty. Period!
3. Heavily pasteurized beverages: These include most every beverage that comes in bottles. Orange juice and those Odwalla smoothies are among the first thing that come to mind. I do not recommend them. They are high in sugar, acidic and their enzymes and natural nutrients have been destroyed by the high temperatures. There are different levels of pasteurization, and some products are more gently pasteurized than others, which is better b/c some of the nutrients are preserved. Coconut water is an example of a product which is gently pasteurized. It holds up pretty well, and coconut water contains important minerals versus vitamins; vitamins are more susceptible to high heat damage from pasteurization.
Now here are 6 great beautifying, hydrating beverages. These ideas are also featured in the current People Stylewatch over 2 pages (very exciting!), and I thought I would be great to share with you as well!
1. Hot water with lemon: Start the day off right, with a mug of fresh water heated up and some lemon to add a punch of Vitamin C and to help flush out your system.
2. Glowing Green Juice: Thirsty? If you have a juicer you can follow the same basic recipe as the GGS for lots of liquid packed with the bonus of antioxidants, enzymes and minerals!
3. Coconut water: Contains lots of potassium and minerals, and very hydrating. Comes in convenient recloseable cartons also!
4. Iced herbal teas: Right now my favorite is peach rooibos, which I have been drinking a ton of here in hot New Orleans during this film! Herbal iced teas add great flavor, antioxidants, and doesn’t have the caffeine of iced green or black tea. I drink mine unsweetened, bu you could sweeten yours up with stevia if you like!
5. Watermelon: At around 92% water, watermelon is so juicy! Remember you can hydrate with fruit! But in keeping with our blog heading, the way to make this is a drink is to simply blend it with a bit of cold water, then you have a great watermelon smoothie to sip on at your desk!
6. Last but not least….the GGS!: Glowing Green Smoothies are incredibly hydrating, and the fiber keeps you full and energized, so you won’t need so many dehydrating caffeine-filled beverages. Some of my clients are doubling their amount of GGS in the heat, and they have a lot of energy and look even more fantastic!
Stay hydrated my beauties!
Love to all,
Kimberly

I start my day off with half of a lemon squeezed in my water but I always drink it cold. Are there any benefits of using hot water as opposed to cold?
Hey Laura, the hot water in the morning is to help relax the bowels to help release!
Hey Kimberly :)
Great post! This is going to be a bit of a long post but I really hope you reply, it would mean a lot to me! For breakfast I have your GGS. Later on, I snack on apples or almonds. For lunch I have the Papaya Enzyme Salad, which is so good! My other snack is a bowl of watermelon. For dinner I have your famous Dharma Kale Salad with another glass of the GGS! Does this seem good to you? :) I just wanted to get your opinion. Also why can’t I add Agave Syrup to my salad? I’m so confused as to if it’s good for me or not. I would REALLY appreciate it if you replied to me! You are my biggest inspiration! Continue to inspire!
Sam :)
Hi Sam,
I asked Kimberley on Twitter why she’s against agave and she said because it’s highly processed and high fructose. I used to use it alot in vegan desserts but now I use maple syrup instead.
Hope that helps!
Tam
thanks Tam! You are right. :)
Thanks Tam :) I really appreciate it! That helps a lot! Thank you! x Kimberly opened my eyes to a whole new world! I’ve NEVER felt this good before. I know this is random but I take a multivitamin pill everyday, is that enough? Again thank you! :)
Hey Sam, thanks for your comment. I have a box on agave in my book, which explains in more detail why I don’t recommend it. Be sure you are having some ground flax, or some chia seeds every day to be sure you are getting your omega fats. Also, if you are fully vegan be sure to supplement with B12 and also D3 is a good idea. Be sure to soak your almonds! Sprouts are a great idea for the salad also. :)
Thanks for the reply Kimberly! :) Will do!
Continue to inspire x

Hi Kim!!
I am currently in a situation where I have to gain weight (lost alot recently and thus lost my period for the last 6 months)…so I was hoping you could make some healthy suggestions of how to gain weight while still sticking to your healthful way of eating.
I was wondering do you have any specific suggestions (brands, exactly what to look for / what to avoid, etc.) when purchasing enzymes, and probiotics? I have read your book and reread the part about supplementing with probiotics and enzymes but it is still a bit unclear about what kind to buy. Thanks
p.s. would kombucha tea be a good substitute for the raw sauerkraut/P&E salad…sometimes I get so sick of it when I just think about having to eat it again? lol
Thanks
Ania
I love kombucha tea and would love to hear thoughts on it!
Hi Ania, You can stick to the same basic guidelines but increase your portion size of healthy grains like quinoa, have more avocado, coconut, healthy oils, etc. There are many brands of Kombucha on the market today such as High Country, Synergy, etc. Even within the brands the flavors vary widely in sugar content. I avoid the ones like mango, and go for the ones like gingerade.
xx Kimberly
THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH KIM!!!!!
I really appreciate it :)
Ania!
p.s. any enzyme and probiotic recommendations?
Can I use oranges in my morning mug of warm water or does it have to be lemon,I use oranges in my drink all day too. I also wanted to thank you for the book, its exactly what I was looking for.
Hey Laura, I”m so happy you like the book. :) I would rather you have lemons or limes b/c they are sour citrus fruits, low in sugar and high in Vitamin C. If you really love the orange you can keep it in sometimes, but you mentioned “all day”, so I would encourage you to mix in the lemons and limes!
xx Kimberly
Thanks for this tips
For sure! xx
Great blog as usual!
Kim, I was wondering if you could provide any updates on the clients you wrote about in your book. I am particularly interested in the client you wrote about that had a severe acne problem. You wrote that her condition improved immensely but she still used acne skin care products and a topical prescription cream. I don’t know if you still work with her but I was wondering if her skin has fully cleared up without the use of topicals. If it hasn’t, could you share why you think it hasn’t? (Did she maybe have trouble sticking to certain changes in her new diet/lifestyle? Or is it more a matter of time and cleansing work?) I’ve been struggling with severe acne and I now believe it mainly has to do with candida. (I’ve given up dairy products over a year ago and I’ve recently just started a candida diet). So, I thought it would be helpful for me to know a little more about your client’s situation, but I’d appreciate any other insight you could provide as well.
Thanks so much!
Hello kimberly my question is if battling candida in the BB phase do I have to have the oats in the am to rid the candida or can I have a green juice or green smoothie..if so what can I put in those? Are the oats apart of ridding the candida from the body? Thanks so much!!!!
Hello kim I was wondering I’d during the BB phase if I’m battling candida if I should have the rolled oats for proper cleanisng or can I have the GGS or juice without all the fruit? Any fruit? I feel very tired bloated and sluggish all the time and a single mom of a 4 year old. I was raw vegan for about a year and started to develop candida symptoms. I’m so used to juices and smoothies in the morning, but I really want this to clear. What is the best breakfast option? Thank you so much for ur advice!!! :)
Hi Kimberly,
I read your book and have begun incorporating a lot of it in my diet. However, I am still nursing my toddler and was wondering if there is anything you would recommend or not recommend for lactating mom’s.
Thank you,
Angela
Love your book and blog. Started making the GGS and love it, although haven’t managed to have it every day yet. How do you know what to start doing first? I’m overwhelmed by everything. I want to do it all, and NOW, but am so overwhelmed that beyond the few times I made the GGS I haven’t done anything. :( :( Any advice?
Maybe I just need more help.
Thanks so much for all the tips and help.
Kimberly recommends in the book to start out doing the Blossoming Beauty phase which does NOT include the GGS.
Hi Kim,
I get a ton of “froth or pulp” when I make the green smoothie, am I doing something wrong? I have a lot of it remaining after all of the “liquid” is gone.
Just bought Dark Chocolate Almond Milk and Vanilla flavored Coconut Milk. Was that a good choice??
I like it 6 drinks
Hi Kimberly!
Thank you for changing both myself and my mother’s life! We take your book wherever we go (it has become our “bible”) and have never looked or have felt better.
Question though: I recently purchased mineral water that comes in a glass bottle so that I could reuse the glass bottle as a water bottle for work (don’t want to use plastic water bottles).
A. Is is okay to refill a glass bottle for daily use?
B. Are there benefits to drinking mineral water?
Thanks again!
Kimberly
In my first batch of probiotic & enzyme salad I used tap water thinking it was okay because it was filtered. Then I read on your blog that it may contain chlorine that would keep the probiotics from developing. My question is should I throw out this first batch and if so what specific brands of water do you suggest.

Hi Kimberly,
If I am trying to loose weight and become lean, should I drink the Glowing Green Smoothie or the Glowing Green Juice?
I randomly picked up your book and it has completely changed my life. It is exactly what I have been looking for ever since I had my little girl. You truly put things in perspective, and I am so greatful.
I do have a problem: I love to eat, I did really well for about 2 months, really sticking to the new way of eating, of course still learning new things, and it was wonderful, energy was really up, i was getting compliments on my skin, and I was just feeling really good about me. It was amazing. All of the sudden I can’t stop eating everything infront of me. I actually feel myself not feeling well because of it and I can’t stop. I need to know if there are any suggestions you can make to me. Maybe some kind of food you can suggest to me that can maybe help. I’m going to try that tea you suggest. I don’t love salty things but sometimes something comes over me and I need something salty and I think that’s what happens, until I satisfy that craving. I hope this makes sense and I really hope to hear from you, becuase I believe this will help me tremendously. And again I want to thank you for what you have done for me! Thank you so much!!
Its like you read my mind! You seem to grasp so much about this, such as you wrote the ebook in it or something. I believe that you just could do with a few p.c. to drive the message house a bit, however instead of that, that is fantastic blog. A great read. I will definitely be back.
Hi Kim!
I’ve been eating the GGS using my Vitamix every morning and I am now ready to buy a great juicer. I’m hoping not to spend more than $600. I know that you recommend the Breville juicer in your book. I was looking at the Green Star Elite 5000 juicer. I just wanted to know your thoughts on the best juicer out there right now. I really appreciate it! And Happy New Year!!
Jen
Hurom?
If I drink Sambazon Immunity and Energy, is it okay for my to just drink those but still be drink something healthy?

Hi kimberly,
I recently read ur book and have been trying to follow it daily but i am encountering a few problems as i live on the east coast of iceland where there is VERY limited supply of health foods, fruits or vegetables and almost no organic produce:-( i was wondering if i could substitute romaine lettuce and kale for baby spinach and regular lettuce?
Hi Kimberly,
Do you also recommend juicers, if so any particular brand? Am about to buy one and am so confused as there are so many on the market, high speed, slow speed etc.
Kind regards,
Angie
LOVE YOUR BOOK!!! THANK YOU!!!! You are amazing! What citrus juicer do you recommend please? My hands are quite painful from squeezing all of those lemons :) Thank you!
Great advice, so much so I just ordered your book, as I am still consuming my first GGS. I didn’t have romaine so I used spinach I hope that’s ok. Love and Peace, Mark
I’m curious about the water with lemon. Just like it’s not a good idea to put honey in hot tea as it would lose its power, doesn’t hot water neutralize the lemon? I know vitamin C is the first to go when temperature goes up.
Hi Kim!
What would you consider a “good” water filter? I’ve been drinking tap because I figure it at least has to meet certain standards in order to get into so many homes. I stopped using a Brita filter after I read that test results showed that Brita filtered water contained more contaminants than tap. So now I’m totally confused!
Which filter would you recommend? Thank you so much!
Kristen
Hi Kimberly! Was wondering if you work with professional athletes? Email me if you do!
Can’t wait for your glowing lean system!!! You are very inspiring, not to mention, beautiful, inside and out.
I appreciate you.
Hi Kim,
What do you suggest as the most optimal juicer on the market? Does Vitamix have a juicer product?
Thanks,
Jess
Good morning Kimberly! I have noticed that citrus inflames my body, especially my feet and joints. I will have to stop drinking the warm lemon water detox drink in order to ease up my pain for a while, so what alternative would you offer as a detox drink?
Coconut water, herbal teas and green juices/smoothies without the lemon all have hydrating and detoxifying properties – all citrus-free! Sending you lots of love!
