One of my favorite reasons why I love Thanksgiving is because it is a time to express gratitude and the joys of having our friends, family and enjoying the company of others. I hope all of you wake up today and take a moment to express gratitude in your life. Today is also a wonderful day to reflect on your year, enjoy wonderful food and company.
I am also so grateful for you! Thank you for being part our community and for your energy. You are the reason why I do what I do!
I know the holidays can cause stress for a variety of reasons and I wanted to post this blog today is so your day out to be a success! I wanted to share my five insider tips for this time of year! Keep these in mind today and remember you are never alone!
There are so many delicious foods during thanksgiving, one of the biggest problems I see with Thanksgiving is most of the foods that are served leave you feeling heavy, bloated and wanting to just take a nap! This post contains 6 simple tips you can use to enjoy your holiday, without feeling guilty or heavy later tonight.
Let’s dive into them now:
Tip #1: Start the day as usual
It is important to treat Thanksgiving like every other day, wake up take a few moments for yourself, have your lemon water, Glowing Green Smoothie, and even do your morning yoga or normal exercise routine if you can. By staying on track with your normal eating habits and taking care of yourself you will be setting yourself up for success later in the day. If you are hosting, Try to plan ahead so you have the time to make sure you can have a good breakfast and spend a few moments on yourself.
Tip #2: Don’t leave the house hungry or wait to long to eat
This is a big one. We often make the worst food choices when we are hungry and feel like we have no options. One way to avoid this from happening is to ensure you eat before you leave for your families, friends or wherever you may need to go. The worst thing you can do is arrive to a party hungry, and snack mindlessly or out of desperation make a choice you typically wouldn’t make. Another way to help keep yourself on track is you can always pack a few snacks with you, such as a bag of kale chips, a banana or an apple. This way if you have something you feel comfortable eating if you are really hungry.
Tip #3: Bring your own Beauty Detox approved dishes to share with loved ones!
Last Friday we posted a Beauty Detox Thanksgiving guide with a fun range of recipes to make and share with loved ones! Bringing food to a party can be a great way to share your cooking with your loved ones so they can see how tasty perfectly paired Beauty Detox approved foods can be! This could be an opportunity to let them know about your lifestyle changes and how happy you are to be sharing with them.
Don’t stress on making something crazy or too many dishes, just pick one dish that will compliment what your host may need. It is always nice to ask if the host needs any dishes, if you have your heart set on a dish, you could let them know, “I have this amazing squash dish, I have been dying to share with everyone.” Remember you can only worry about your food choices on Thanksgiving, so don’t worry what everyone around you is eating.
Tip #4: Focus on your company
Take advantage if you get to spend time with loved ones today, and focus your energy on that! With busy schedules, demanding jobs and families it is so hard to stay in touch these days. If you are able to spend the holidays with your loved ones, enjoy exactly that. Spending time with the people you love and care about. Take a moment to feel gratitude and keep the focus on your company not so much on all the food hurdles you may feel lay ahead!
Tip #5: If you can’t prepare a dish, choose the best dish available.
Depending on where you are having Thanksgiving there can be so many food choices in front of you. Scan the table for choices that you are comfortable with and remember it is always best when overwhelmed by choices to just stick to the basics.
Fill yourself with these beauty foods before you decide if you need anything else:
- Salad
- Veggies (if there’s a raw veggie platter, dig into that first, then move on to the cooked foods!)
- Yams or Sweet Potatoes
- You can feel comfort in knowing you are part of the party and no one will notice your plate if you fill your plate with these things. This is a great way to still be participating in the party without making a big deal out of trying to stick to a clean diet. I doubt anyone will look at you funny if you have a full plate, regardless of what’s on it.
- Remember today your food pairing won’t be perfect, but that’s okay! As I mentioned earlier, it’s almost inevitable that you’ll be mixing starches and proteins in some way for Thanksgiving, which is not the best Beauty Food Pairing, but it’s okay for this occasion (it is after all, a holiday).
You want to enjoy your Thanksgiving and I don’t want you to feel you have to obsess over what is in every dish on the table, there’s a point when it’s best to just go and enjoy yourself.
Tip #6: Remember your Probiotics & digestive enzymes
To keep yourself on your nomal routine, make sure you take your Probiotic in the morning and with eating foods you normally don’t eat, more then ever I recommend you taking a digestive enzyme before your meals, to assist your body in digestion.
Digestive enzymes are especially valuable later that night, if you had anything you feel is “sitting” in your tummy and not digesting properly. Get a good brand and take up to 3-5 capsules later tonight if you experience any sluggishness or indigestion — you’ll find they work wonders!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Kim,it may sound corny, but I am thankful for you and for introducing us into this wonderful healthy lifestyle…and for sharing every valuable piece of information! :)
I made the sweet potato shepherd’s pie today!! Fingers crossed, but my husband already high fived me when he tried a bite :)
Thank you for today’s post and Happy Thanksgiving! I spent Thanksgiving with someone who commented on my slow weight loss/difficulty losing weight since having my children. I felt discouraged but I know I’m doing well and losing weight steadily. I have beauty detox (and Kimberly) to thank for that. This is a solution that works. I do not need to be extreme with my weight loss. That will only bring temporary change. Thank you for helping me have a healthier relationship with food.
Quick question, some people characterize lentils as a protein while others call it a carbohydrate. Which one is it and what foods should I mix when consuming it, in order to stay within the guidelines of Beauty Food Pairing that you outlined in the second chapter of your first book ?
