I am so excited to introduce you to Sharon. This beautiful woman has quite the inspirational story! Her journey to find a path that felt right and help her I.B.S was a long struggle…until she found Beauty Detox. It is so amazing to see her today as a vibrant women who looks and feels amazing. Let’s let her take it away…
An Introduction from Sharon
Since I’m much older than the women who have shared their stories, I thought it would encourage those not in their 20’s and 30’s. At this writing I am 69, turning 70 next March.
I’ve been on a quest for optimal health throughout my adult life, always exercising, eating healthy, took a nutritional specialist course and read every article on foods/nutrition/eating plans I came across. The driving force was my I.B.S. (Irritable Bowel Syndrome with diarrhea). After retirement in 2000 it was so severe that I became almost housebound (even called in doctor’s appointments), resulting in depression, anxiety, panic attacks, etc. I became someone neither I nor my family knew and it was devastating. It took medication and therapy before I began to reclaim some of my real self, although my stomach issues still persisted. It was tormenting, debilitating, exhausting.
My advice is believe Kimberly when she teaches that the health of your gut has everything to do with your overall health!. The cycle begins: stress, triggering the condition, throwing emotions and reasoning to the dark side, causing more stress, more IBS, more unbalanced emotions and state of mind. Basically, the ‘fight or flight’ syndrome kicked in and I was unable to shut it off.
How long have you been following the Beauty Detox philosophy? Was it easy to incorporate it into your lifestyle?
I found Beauty Detox about 1 ½ years ago, when I channel-surfed and saw Kimberly on the Dr. Oz show. I zoned in on everything she said, then immediately ordered The Beauty Detox Solution and The Beauty Detox Foods. I read them cover to cover and was amazed at the volume of well-researched information, shocked that foods I thought were healthy actually were not, and excited that I’d found THE answer for me.
I’m a very disciplined person, so making the changes was not difficult at all, but my caveat is that I’m about 95% Beauty Detox, by choice, still including some “cheats” important to me in my daily routine. I became vegan with no problem (other than comments from other people). I was already eating gluten-free, so no problem with that. My husband has been totally supportive, seeing the difference in my sense of well-being. Even though he does not follow Beauty Detox, he has incorporated some of the foods, especially eating lots of veggies.
What is your daily regimen? Give us an example of a typical meal plan and exercise routines.
First thing in the morning a lemon squeezed in room temp water, followed by another glass of water with (2) Probiotics+. I like to shower, dress and do makeup first thing in the morning and drink a cup of coffee while I do my makeup.
Breakfast:
I generally make GGS but if not, I have fruit. When I get hungry later, I might make the protein smoothie or buckwheat pancakes (I make a double batch and freeze so they’re always available), or just a banana. I often consume (3) bananas in a day…one of my favorite go-to’s.
Lunches: (with a vegan digestive enzyme)
Salad with lots of raw organic sauerkraut (from the health food store);
Slice of seeded gluten-free bread topped with Dijon, avocado, greens, and sprouts with sides of olives, baby carrots, and grape tomatoes.
I eat avocado every day, either a whole small one or half of a large one.
Dinners: (with a vegan digestive enzyme)
Big salad
Small salad with grilled portabellos/zucchini/yellow squash
Small salad with a large baked sweet potato, filled with non-dairy butter, sliced green onions, non-dairy cheese shreds (Daiyu from the health food store), nutritional yeast and cayenne.
Salad with a side like quinoa. I always have quinoa in the fridge.
I never eat dessert. I neither need nor want anything else.
Sundays: I enjoy having something crunchy like chips: Luke’s Organic Brown Rice, Late July chips, or Luke’s chia crackers…but I have a big salad later in the day.
Exercise: I generally workout 3-5 days a week, alternating between using weights and doing mild cardio.
Each night before bed I take (2) Detoxy capsules. My husband does, too.
What is your favorite recipe and why?
Well it is hard for me to just pick one! Here are my top three recipes the Dharma’s Kale Salad , Raw Purple Cabbage Slaw and Give Thanks Sweet Potatoes!!!
I LOVE nutritional yeast so incorporate it in most lunches and dinners. I like to keep things simple so I mostly eat raw foods and am completely satisfied and nourished. I make my own salad dressing, taken from Kimberly’s Creamy Dijon recipe. I make it in a big batch so it’s always available.
How do you feel after adopting the Beauty Detox lifestyle? What changes have you experienced?
I honestly feel better than I have in years. I clearly don’t feel like my “age.” It didn’t take long for me to have more energy, a calmer stomach, etc., and I lost weight almost immediately. I did not need to lose weight but I believe my body lost much toxicity and has settled into its happy place. I find that I need less sleep but still go through my day with lots of energy. My hair, skin and nails (have to cut them down every 2-3 weeks) all reflect my good health. I’m so much more peaceful and confident and have lost most of the anxiety from doing new things…I’m a busy, active person and full of optimism about my life. I never get sick, either. Because of my IBS issues, I had such a need to control my environment to the point of being OCD (actually diagnosed). Now my “control” extends to putting the best foods into my body and that’s a powerful and enabling feeling!
What words of encouragement do you have for others in the Beauty Detox Community?
Take it one step at a time if the plan is totally new to you. Listen to your body on when and how to eat. As you make changes, you’ll definitely feel the positive changes. Even though I maintain a few “cheats,” I’ve reaped huge benefits and feel great. I never have cravings, feel hungry or deprived. As a young adult I was overweight and always counting calories; I never even consider that now. Aside from having to justify my diet to others at times, I have a sense of food freedom. I’ve even been able to share BDS with other women who want to be healthier and lose weight (and bloating). Interestingly, my IBS is under control. Eating so much raw food has seemed to help my issues, rather than aggravating them. Again…freedom! At my last yearly check-up my doctor said that health-wise my body was 15 years younger than my chronological age…and I plan on maintaining that. You know what they say: “70 is the new 50!” I am so thankful to feel healthy and vibrant so I can live my best life and be there for my 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and a goddaughter! I feel so blessed and I am excited to share my journey with all of you!
