Today I wanted to share Sunniva’s Beauty Detox Transformation Story with you. Every week I enjoy reading all the stories everyone has submitted and share them with the community for motivation and inspiration! Sunniva explains how she started incorporating The Beauty Detox Lifestyle into her life around 2011 and has never looked back.
In almost no time she began feeling much better from slowly implementing the basic principles I talk about in The Beauty Detox Solution. After becoming pregnant with her first child, Sunniva fell ill. Her doctor told her she had developed hyperemesis and gestational diabetes. Frustrated with not finding answers on how to treat her illnesses from her doctors, she used the Beauty Detox Principles in my first book to help assist her body to get balanced during and after her pregnancy.
Let’s now hear her tell her story!…
How long have you been following the Beauty Detox philosophy? Was it easy to incorporate it into your lifestyle?
I have been following Kimberly’s lifestyle since her first book The Beauty Detox Solution came out in 2011. I started eating Light to Heavy and introduced the Glowing Green Smoothie into my regular routine.
The real catalyst for change though, was 2 years ago when I got pregnant and felt extremely sick. I was bedridden with hyperemesis and gestational diabetes, vomiting so much I was throwing up blood and had to be admitted to hospital. It went on for months, and the piles of prescriptions the doctors prescribed me weren’t making me any better – in fact they just made me feel worse. I have always believed in the power of food as medicine and I decided to heal myself on a very alkaline high raw diet.
This is when I pulled out my trusty copy of The Beauty Detox Solution to help me on my journey! In a very short time I went from being barely able to crawl out of bed to feeling amazing and having more energy than I knew what to do with. I threw out all my medications, and was feeling so good I worked right up to the day my beautiful little girl was born. It was easy to incorporate because I did it slowly over a period of time, rather than trying to change everything overnight. I feel like I’m still learning and changing even now.
What is your daily regimen? Give us an example of a typical meal plan and exercise routines.
Every morning I get up around 5:30am and go for a walk before my partner and baby are up. This makes me more energized and really impacts on the rest of my day being calmer. I go to a yoga class most days, and once a week I like to throw something new in there so I don’t get bored – aerial silks, boxing, paddle boarding, whatever looks fun at the time!
I start with some hot water and lemon with a probiotic. I then make a variation of the Glowing Green Smoothie for breakfast – usually about 2 liters, which I’ll drink throughout the morning.
I usually have a big salad for lunch with all the fresh vegetables I can find, avocado and hemp seeds. In the afternoon I will have another large Glowing Green Smoothie with whatever fresh fruit I have on hand. I snack on medjool dates and raw vegetables throughout the day.
Dinner is often a baked sweet potato with a salad, or stir fried vegetables with brown basmati rice.
How do you feel after adopting the Beauty Detox lifestyle? What changes have you experienced?
The Beauty Detox Lifestyle has really transformed my health. The fact that I was able to completely eliminate the gestational diabetes and hyperemesis just through what I was eating speaks for itself, and I have no doubt it is the reason I haven’t got sick since.
I have so much more energy, it balanced out my hormones, I sleep more soundly, and I’m so much more in tune with my body now. I started eating this way for health, but it quickly evolved into something far more than that once I started researching the impact animal agriculture was having on the environment, as well as how cruel farming practices are. I have now removed all animal products from my diet which makes me feel at peace with my plate.
How has this impacted your outlook on life?
I’m much calmer and happier now which really improved my relationships with everyone around me. It also inspired me to create my own healthy recipes which I started sharing online, to an unbelievable response. This has grown into something far beyond I could ever have expected, and it makes me so happy to be involved in this huge community of people all wanting to transform their health through eating delicious food.
What is your favorite recipe and why?
Even years later, it is still the Glowing Green Smoothie. I make a variation of this every single day – if I don’t have it I really notice a difference in my energy levels. I also love the Raw Chickpea-Less Hummus and Sweet Potato Shepard’s Pie.
What words of encouragement do you have for others in the Beauty Detox Community?
Be kind to yourself, we are always our own worst critic, us females especially!
Don’t overwhelm yourself by taking on too much too soon – small habits add up very quickly to massive change. Read The Beauty Detox Solution and start implementing the things that feel right for you one at a time. It will be life changing!
