Today I am excited to share with you the story of Sally and Megan*… who are twins! They take us through their personal journey from eating the standard American diet (SAD) to the Beauty Detox whole-foods, plant-based diet that lead them to clearer skin, better digestion and living a more well rounded life.
A little about these lovely ladies.
We were raised in Ukraine and ate a diet that was based mostly on whole foods. Our grandparents had a farm and we grew most of our produce. When we came to USA at the age of 12, we adapted a standard American diet. We were also diagnosed with severe cystic acne at 13. Accutane and laser surgeries became the only treatment options when prescription medications and topical creams stopped being effective a couple of years down the road. For more than a decade, we were using dozens of topical and oral prescription medications that were only slightly helping our acne. The events surrounding our struggles with acne had a profound impact on us. The last few years, we spent researching and studying the causes of acne and completely revising our dietary habits. Not only did this process result in clearing of the acne, we no longer suffer from other ailments such as chronic migraines, tonsillitis, and PMS. We used to get sick with tonsillitis annually and had severe PMS symptoms.
We now follow a high raw whole-foods, plant-based diet and share our recipes with hope to inspire others with our personal journey to recovery. At the beginning of our plant-based journey, we were following a high fruit raw food diet until we discovered Kimberly’s approach to incorporating more warming cooked foods and adding greens in our smoothies. Prior to this, we used to make smoothies mostly out of fruit which led to us feeling imbalanced and cold. Kimberly became a huge inspiration to us. We drink her GGS on a regular basis and she inspires us on a daily basis. Our favorite recipes of Kimberly’s are the Probiotic Beauty Slaw, and the Sweet Potato, Red Onion and Jalapeno Hash.
In addition, a vegan lifestyle has brought my sister and I closer together. I am a research scientist and my sister is a creative artist. In college, we spent a lot of time apart but when we started changing our lifestyle, we became so much closer. We created our own website, started our business and are now thriving on the whole foods diet.
How long have you been following the Beauty Detox philosophy? Was it easy to incorporate it into your lifestyle?
We started our vegan journal in 2012 and we have been following the Beauty Detox philosophy since fall of 2014. It was natural to incorporate into our lifestyle, because we were craving warming foods.
Initially, we did a fully raw high fruit diet, which left us feeling cold and imbalanced. We constantly felt hungry.
When we found Kimberly’s The Beauty Detox Solution, we started incorporating some of her philosophies into our diet and started feeling more satisfied and balanced.
What is your daily regimen? Give us an example of a typical meal plan and exercise routines.
We start our day with a warm lemon, ginger, turmeric water. Then we have a Glowing Green Smoothie or an acai bowl. We love greens and most of our smoothies are made up from at least 50% dark leafy greens such as kale or Swiss chard.
For lunch, we enjoy baked kabocha, butternut or sweet potato with a raw salad. For dinner, we usually have some steamed veggies and a raw salad with spices, sprouts, and avocado or tahini dressing. We love making salad dressings, sauerkraut, coconut yogurt, and raw crackers!
We usually exercise 3-5 times a week. We enjoy long bike rides and running. We usually go on a 30 min run in the morning before having our Glowing Green Smoothie! It’s great after a workout!
How do you feel after adopting the Beauty Detox lifestyle? What changes have you experienced?
We feel balanced, energized, and satiated. We’ve experienced higher energy levels, clearer complexion and our digestion improved.
Kimberly also inspired us to practice meditation and yoga and reading books on self-development and growth. Our current favorite author is Dr. Wayne Dyer.
How has this impacted your outlook on life?
In the beginning of our vegan journey, we spent a lot of time learning about what to eat and we felt very stressed out. Now, we feel more in tune with our body and we enjoy being in nature more than ever before.
What is your favorite recipe and why?
Our favorite recipe is Sweet Potato, Red Onion and Jalapeno Hash, because we love spicy food and sweet potatoes. We enjoy this recipe with a salad.
What words of encouragement do you have for others in the Beauty Detox Community?
We want people to have courage to keep going and to continue learning no matter where they are on their journey. Most people stop learning and they eventually give up.
We struggled transitioning from a Standard American Diet to a whole food plant-based diet and experienced a lot of detox symptoms. Eventually, we found a balance between raw and cooked foods.
The most important thing is that you keep going and seek help if needed.
Lots of times people are more than willing to help and assist you on your journey to a healthier and happier you. Plus, there are a lot of incredibly tasty vegan recipes online and it never gets boring!
I hope everyone is feeling inspired after reading this! You both are such an inspiration to the community. It has been amazing to read about your transformation applying The Beauty Detox principles. We all support you, and are honored to have your beautiful spirit in our community. Keep going, Beauties!!
I encourage you to enjoy your weekend by doing something for yourself, taking a moment to pause and be grateful for the abundance you have in your life.

Hey Kimberly, how are you and your precious little guy? Hope all is well! Thank you for sharing yet another great post! I just had a question on bread. I’m confused with what’s best when I do have it. I pick up this bread from Trader Joes listed as Sprouted Flourless Whole Wheat Berry Bread. But when I check out the ingredients it lists •wheat gluten •soy lecithin • cultured wheat just a few from the list not many more. I guess I’m confused on the topic of whole wheat is that considered a whole food? The gluten and soy lecithin bad? Besides the wraps which I found and love…do you have a brand for loaf like bread you like and would recommend having. Thank you and hope to hear back?
this is a wonderful story these are very inspiring young ladies.
