Hi Beauties,
Today I want to talk to you about how to finally ditch those dairy cravings, once and for all. In my third book, Beauty Detox Power, I shared a lot of information about cravings. Cravings are not just one dimensional. Studies show that food cravings involve a complex mix of social, cultural, societal, and psychological factors that are influenced by our environment.
Dairy Cravings? Cheese Cravings?
We spend a lot of energy when we are trying to get past dairy cravings.
It took me several years to finally get past my dairy cravings, but now I feel so much lighter and less bloated. I know what it’s like to experience loving cheese, and feeling really good when you eat it. But on the other side, I know what it’s like to ditch dairy. I am so much happier because my skin is better without dairy. I also have more energy without dairy. Sometimes we just need that bridge to get to the other side.
Dairy Has No Benefit To Our Bones
I once read a study by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, that showed contrary to our belief, dairy has no benefit to our bones. We grew up with these beliefs that dairy is important for the calcium aspect, it’s good for our system. But then when we dig deeper we realize dairy is not really human food.
Diary is actually more acid forming upon digestion. That means it can actually leach out minerals from our system. This leaves us weaker boned and with actually less calcium in our system.
Feel Safe Giving Up Dairy
You can feel safe in giving up dairy. There are a lot of other sources of calcium such as green leafy vegetables, tahini, sesame seeds. Check out some of my favorite dairy-free alternatives to getting calcium in your system.
It’s important to note there are things in dairy that can actually alter your mood and make you feel like you are addicted
- In cheese, it is called tyramine, which is considered to be a stimulant.
- In milk, it is called L-tryptophan, and it triggers a feel-good chemical in the brain called serotonin.
- Milk also has choline = soothing property, and it has lactose = energizing feeling.
Tips to Help You Ditch Dairy
Keep a Food Log
If you do decide to consume a bit of dairy, really try and take notice of how you feel afterward. Keep a food log and give attention to your energy, changes in your skin, bloating or digestive issues. On days you don’t consume dairy, not any improvements you witness to these areas to keep you motivated going dairy free.
Stock Your Home With Feel Good Foods
Keep your home stalked with other nourishing foods that give you energy and boost your mood:
- avocados = tryptophan & beauty fat
- Bananas = rich in minerals that keep lifting your mood ( vitamin B & magnesium)
- Variety of greens = containing folate
Seek Out Dairy Alternatives
And if nothing else, going to your nearest superfood market and find delicious dairy alternatives made with almonds, coconut, hemp, or flaxseed.
We are so lucky to be alive right now, with so many alternatives coming onto the market, you are bound to find a dairy-free substitute to help soothe your cravings.
