Why I Love Bananas
Before we jump into my Feel Playful Ooey Gooey Banana Boat Recipe, do you know why bananas should be a staple of your diet? For starters, they are a high energy food. The carbohydrates in bananas can help provide quick-acting long-term energy. And I know how many of us are always seeking out ways to get more natural energy! If you’ve been following Beauty Detox, you know there is no reason to be scared of simple carbohydrates. While bananas do contain natural fruit sugars, they also come in a complete with fiber and vitamins, so they don’t unbalance your blood sugar like refined sugars.
Bananas Protect Our Health.
Many of us have heard that bananas are filled with potassium (about 600 mg per medium banana). But how does that help us? Well, potassium is an important mineral and electrolyte. It’s necessary for muscular function and digestion. Potassium may actually help prevent the formation of kidney stones. It can also help keep our blood pressure down, protecting us from strokes! Our eyes benefit from bananas too as they contain vitamins A, C and E. And our blood benefits from bananas since it’s loaded with vitamin B6, working to regulate our blood glucose levels.
Bananas Boost Digestion.
Bananas have a special way of actually lubricating your digestive tract. They contain natural oils and enzymes that help your body easily digest them. And we are grateful for this since bananas also contain a great deal of fiber, which helps to keep our bowel movements regular. Bananas also have a high concentration of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), promoting good digestion and preventing constipation. Proper fluid levels in our body are regulated by the abundance of electrolytes and potassium in bananas. Also, a major bonus if you are experiencing any digestive issues.
Bananas offer Balance.
It’s always smart to think about how certain foods balance out our bodies. Yet another reason why I love bananas, they digest with a net alkaline pH. This helps to keep our acidity levels in check and protect against an improper balance of acids in our system. Bananas also help to increase the levels of healthy bacteria in our gut because they contain the prebiotic, fructooligosaccharide.

Feel Playful Ooey Gooey Banana Boats
Ingredients
- 2 large ripe bananas
- 2 Tbs. almond butter
- ¼ cup cacao nibs or dark chocolate chips
Instructions
- Prepare all your ingredients. Turn your grill on to high heat.
- Very carefully, slice open each banana peel from top to bottom, taking caution to not go all the way through the banana and puncture the other side of the peel. Your goal here is to open the banana lengthwise, but still leave the peel in one piece.
- Now that you’ve accessed bananas, smother almond butter down the middle and sprinkle in cacao or chocolate chips. Place bananas (with peel still on), directly on the bbq, open side with almond butter and nips facing up. Roast bananas until peel turns dark brown, and bananas are nice and gooey (about 7 minutes).
- Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes. Using a spoon, scoop out ooey gooey banana from it’s boat and enjoy!
Sending you so much love and healing energy.
So are bananas ok to eat anytime? Is this because they contain less water than other fruits like apples? Thank you?
Hi Vanessa, yes, you’re correct. Bananas are more starchy and contain less water (you can’t juice a banana), so digest more slowly than other fruits and are great for using in different types of smoothies. They also contain natural oils and enzymes that help your body easily digest them, so they won’t weigh down your digestive tract. Thanks for your question – I know it can be confusing at times. Sending you so much love! ;)
Hi Kimberly! This recipe looks AMAZING! I don’t have a grill though so can I just roast these in the oven? Or on the gas top stove?
Thank you! <3 Lots of love!
