Hi Beauties,
Welcome back to our vlog. Our topic today is 5 Natural Food Aphrodisiacs. First of all, food is our first Solluna cornerstone and we talk about food a lot because it’s foundational. It’s physical, you pick it up, we all need to eat every day and everything affects everything else.
How Foods Impact Your Energy and Sex Life
Foods have a profound impact on our energy, our moods, our physical beauty as well as our ability to connect and meditate. Everything affects everything else. So, today we are going to be focusing on foods and aphrodisiacs for lovemaking and sensuality and the sexuality aspect of our lives.
I think that sex is a very important way to connect with your partner. The physical act of coming together can be very beautiful, very heart-opening, intimate and wonderful.
If you don’t have a partner, of course there’s so much research published on masturbation, connecting with yourself, and still feeling sensual and sexual, which is part of our nature. So this is for everyone. It covers the gamut, whether you’re with a partner or not.
Aphrodisiac Food #1: Celery
The first food I want to cover is celery. There are quite a few studies around celery that shows consuming this green veggie stimulates the pituitary gland in the brain and this helps to release sex hormones.
In particular, celery has two chemicals, androsterone and androstenediol, which serve as a sexual attractant. Celery has been used for centuries. There’s documents that the ancient Greeks and the Romans used celery to stimulate sexual desire.
Celery of course is a staple ingredient in our Glowing Green Smoothie®. By virtue of having your GGS you’re going to be getting it into your life. I also love celery dipped in hummus and dips and love the crunch. We pretty much always have celery in our home. So good one to have around and a good one to keep in mind.
Aphrodisiac Food #2: Spices
Our second food is actually multi dimensional, divided up into spices. Spices worldwide, from Ayurvedic medicine to Chinese medicine and so many different cultures, use spices for health benefits as well as taste benefits.
Spice #1: Ginger
There is a study published in the Biomolecules journal that found ginger boosts testosterone. It would be a great one to give your partner and have some ginger tea for yourself.
It boosts circulation, it’s warm and it’s not usually aggravating for most body types.
Spice #2: Chili Peppers
Second one is chili peppers. According to a publication by Northwestern University, chili peppers are a natural aphrodisiac because they release endorphins and feel good hormones. Add a little bit of chili in your stews, soups and vegan tacos. Bring it on!
Spice #3: Cardamom
Up third is cardamom, which is another ancient spice which is warming and pungent. A study shows that cardamom acts as an anti-inflammatory and has antioxidants which help to reduce inflammation and issues in your body that could interfere with your sex life.
Cardamom is something that I love to put in elixirs. I like to use it in both the savory and sweet way. You can check out our recipes. We have a lot that incorporate cardamom.
Aphrodisiac Food #3: Beets
Next food is beets. Beets have been given a lot of play lately for athletic performance because they can help with the nitric oxide. These allow your blood vessels to dilate, which increases circulation to your muscles but also to your sexual organs. This results in better sexual performance shall we say. They are beautiful and red and are blood building.
My favorite way to eat beets is a beet salad. I like to bake beets and eat them with some plant-based cheese like the Miyoko’s Vegan Garlic Herb Cheese Wheel. It’s delicious with beets and it’s basic cashews and coconut so you can check that out for yourself.
Aphrodisiac Food #4: Berries
Our next food is berries, especially strawberries, blueberries. Studies show that vitamin C also increases circulation to all parts of your body including your genitals. And a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that the antioxidant and theophylline, which is found in strawberries and blueberries helps to open up blood vessels in general for better blood flow all around.
This, of course, makes us feel open and sensual and warm and sexy. Journal of Medicinal Food study found that foods rich in vitamin C actually increase sperm count. So bring on the berries.
Aphrodisiac Food #5: Dark Chocolate
Next is dark chocolates, and there’s no secret that dark chocolate has been given out as a gift on Valentine’s Day because it is a very sexy food. We know it has different compounds including PEA, phenylalinine, which helps to stimulate sex hormones.
It also helps to stimulate the neurotransmitter dopamine in your brain, which helps you feel satisfied. A study done in Italy suggests that there is a correlation between chocolate and female sexual function. Very interesting.
I really like finding a high dark chocolate percentage. I recommend 82% or higher – 72%, let’s say, work it in. Low sugar, dairy-free, and I like to keep my chocolate in the freezer. It keeps it nice and cool and then I’m not mindlessly snacking on it. I eat the chocolate right when I really want it.
In Closing
Check out these foods and remember you can stock them, source them and use all foods intentionally with purpose. In this case we’re talking about boosting our sensuality, which is part of connecting with ourselves and all aspects of ourselves and our energy.
I don’t think there should be any guilt and shame around sex. I think it’s a natural function. It’s a beautiful way too, with yourself and with your partner, so check out some of these foods. Let me know which ones are your favorite.
Check out the recipes that we have that incorporate some of these foods here on the website, mysolluna.com. Sending you lots of love, good vibes, and sexy time in your future, and I will see you back here next week.
Thank you for this information as it’s always good to know about anything that helps one enjoy life’s pleasures!
Absolutely! Enjoy xx
Well done kimberly ,
