Especially as a female entrepreneur and being so successful, Lisa has a coaching business that has sold more than 30 million in 134 countries. Kimberly: 03:45 All right. I’m out of breath, Lisa, but it’s so great to talk to you. You have an amazing story. I love that you’re also a mother and, as a working mama myself, I was really inspired about your story and just how you did all this on your own. I don’t even know where to start. There’s so many questions I have for you. I guess the first thing I would say is we talk about confidence a lot here on the podcast and in our community about tuning into our uniqueness and you’re so much about finding that unique voice. A lot of your book coaches us in doing that. Is that something… Have you always been a confident woman? Is that how you were raised? Is that something you learned along the way? Was there a trauma that helped you get stronger? Tell us a little bit about you, Lisa.
Lisa shares her background and how she became a confident woman
Lisa : 04:35 Wow. Well, I do need to say, first of all, usually this day of the week is a day off for me and the only things that get on my calendar are things that feel good, so of course when you invited me to be here… I mean, it was right there in the title. I’m like, yes, of course! I’m super happy to be here. As we are talking right now, you are just days away from expanding your family and as I look at you in all your glowing beauty and everything that you’re navigating, doing this in the middle of this quarantine time, this unprecedented time, I just have so much admiration, respect, compassion, for you. Obviously, it’s going beautifully and you’re here, from a higher place, giving. I think that is part of the secret sauce. It is.
Lisa : 05:29 When we talk about courage, I can say that a lot of my own courage, I think it’s welled up from something that really came from my family from an early age, which was… We didn’t have much. I had a single mom who was working in her cubicle at a big aerospace company with no windows from 9 to 5 and coming home, raising my brother and I, but she always was contributing. Even in her little cubicle. She used to put shelves above her desk and she would get these secondhand stuffed animals from this stuffed animal company named Dakin. They would send her the misfit toys and she would sell them right out of her cubicle. Whether it was Mother’s Day or Hanukkah or Christmas, people… Like the 3000 employees would come by her office and buy the stuffed animals and then she would donate all the money to the battered women’s shelter.
Lisa : 06:27 So I just kind of got in me and there’s something… It’s this interesting relationship. It’s like what you’re doing here. You give because it feels good. You give because it’s part of your gift, your unique value, to just have it in your heart to do that. I think everybody wants to make a difference. You do it. Take the action. There’s this kind of karmic return of… Like a secret sauce. The lubrication of life. That even-
Kimberly: 07:02 Oh! I’ve never heard it put that way. That was a little sexy.
Lisa : 07:02 You’re going to need it soon, girl. Not for sexy reasons. Yeah, so, that has been in me and I think it breeds confidence because it has… Even though, like anybody else, I’ve gone through my fair share of the school of hard knocks, I always feel like there’s this karmic bank account that’s supporting me. I never know how it’s going to show up, but… Just like you inviting me here today. It just shows up over and over.
How to know if you have something unique to share
Kimberly: 07:33 I always get goosebumps. Well, I love the positivity in the book, Lisa, and also just… Do you feel like everybody has something unique that they can give? Because just… book signings, meeting with our community, all our Solluna circle, in person as well as online… I’ve just heard it over and over again. I don’t know if I’m good enough. I don’t know if I have something to say that’s unique. Now, we’re in this time where jobs are shifting and maybe people have been in quarantine and maybe they’re realizing, hey, I didn’t really like what I was doing with my life. Or maybe someone has been a mom for a while and is ready to get back into the workforce. What would you say to all these women, all these people, that say, “Eh, I don’t know if I actually have something unique to share.”
Lisa : 08:27 You shared a little bit… The answer to your question is yes. I not only believe, I assert that every single one of us… If you’re hearing my voice right now, I’m talking to you. That every single one of us is literally sitting on a gold mine. Really, what I’ve seen, and as you shared in my bio… Over the last 10, 12 years, I’ve helped over 15,000 clients in 134 countries. I’m not practicing. I’ve got this down. I’ve seen-
Kimberly: 09:01 And these aren’t just successful business people. These are moms coming back to the-
Lisa : 09:06 These are people who have-
Kimberly: 09:06 Yeah, all sorts.
Lisa : 09:08 … what we call in the book that meant for more feeling. They overcame something in their life and using all the schools they been to… There’s formal education for some people. Not everyone. Then, there’s the school of hard knocks. We’ve each overcome things and gone through it and learned. We have our spiritual schools that we’ve each been through and things that have transformed and changed. Relationship schools. One of the biggest schools. All of those things that we work through and we overcome, they put each one of us in a unique position to have some knowledge, some experience, that can help people that are coming up to that place. Maybe it was a health challenge. Maybe it was a financial challenge. Maybe it was a business challenge. And you overcame it or you got education around that thing.
The difference between those who are mining the gold and those who can’t see it
Lisa : 10:00 What I’ve seen… and this, to me, is the key… is that everyone is sitting on a gold mine. Whether you like it or not. Whether you believe it or not. I’ve seen this across the board. The only difference… There’s one thing that is the difference between who’s mining the gold and who’s complaining or believing they don’t have it or making an excuse or just can’t see it or just so buried under circumstances they can’t see it, and that difference, that one thing… I took a poll the other day on our Facebook page and people were guessing all kinds of things and nobody guessed it.
Kimberly: 10:39 Is it belief?
Lisa : 10:41 That was one of the guesses. A common guess. You got any others? What do you think is the one thing between… If everyone’s sitting on a gold mine, meaning you’ve got a gift that you could turn into giving, abundance, financial freedom, what would be the difference between the people who are mining the gold and the people who are not yet?
Kimberly: 11:04 Wow, I’m… I should know this because I read the whole book, but I was going to say [crosstalk 00:11:09]
Lisa : 11:08 It’s okay. When I say it, you’re going to have a V8 moment.
Kimberly: 11:13 Confidence. Belief in yourself.
Lisa : 11:16 All those things help, but the thing that precedes that-
Kimberly: 11:20 Tell us. Please.
Lisa : 11:20 It literally happened in an instance. Sometimes not even consciously. The difference is a decision. At some point, whether it’s like a reaction to something or a conscious choice… so it could be conscious or unconscious… but right before, the person sets in to mine that gold, to figure out the how. This is before even knowing how or having a plan or buying my book or any of that. There’s this decision. It could happen right here on this interview, where you’re listening and you go, “You know what? What if what she said is true? You know what? I’m going to find out. I’m going to find out what my gold is.” That could be the moment. There could be hundreds of people, at this moment, making that decision and separating themselves from the people who mine the gold and the people who just don’t.
Kimberly: 12:16 I love how clear that is. Because there’s so much fear around what if I don’t make it or… almost being scared to assert what we do want.
What to do after you’ve made the ‘decision’
Lisa : 12:26 Well, after making the decision, then there’s all that stuff. There’s needing to believe in yourself, everything you said. Gain confidence. Figure out how. Find a mentor. All of that stuff is right there just one millimeter past the decision, but without the decision, you could be… They’re really just excuses. Well, I don’t have confidence and I’m not sure if I believe in that. Once the decision is made, that’s still all there, but now it becomes an exploration. I wrote Meant for More because, after thousands of clients, all these years, I look at you and I see myself. I just had my 52nd birthday.
Kimberly: 13:10 You look amazing.
Lisa : 13:13 Thank you. I feel great. I had my kids in my late 30s. They’re 13 and 16 now. But when I started, I was 40. When I really took off, when I started understanding my own unique value, I was 40. I had a newborn and a three year old. I wasn’t that far from where you are right now. I also had… My then-husband was in medical school, fellowship, residency, becoming a surgeon. This 15-year path we were on, where he was gone and working and doing all those things you’re supposed to do. So, newborn and three year old. We’re moving every two years for his career. And think about it. 12 years ago, we were right in the middle of a recession. People were losing their jobs. People’s 401Ks were disappearing. Their stocks were in half. I know this feeling. I know this time, as do many of us that went through this a decade ago, of, oh my God. What just happened? In that case, the real estate market fell out. In this case, we’ve got a pandemic. But it was a time of reinvention as is this if you make that decision. If you make that decision.
Kimberly: 14:30 So the decision could be as simple as I want to change my career. It doesn’t have to be so specific. I want to work for this company or I want to do this. It can just be as simple as, hey, I’m going to change my life.
Lisa : 14:43 Yeah. It’s like I’m using this time. I’m going to be proud of the steps I took during this time. This is a pivotal time for me. When you make that choice, then things like Meant for More, which is actually… It’s more of a course than a book. It’s not a passive read where you just lay back when you’re tired and read it. There’s, I think, 16 exercises.
Kimberly: 15:07 I better show you, Lisa, because I actually have my copy right here and I don’t… I’m not one of those people that usually does this, but I actually did do the exercises. Look, I wrote in.
One of the biggest reasons we have fear around making a decision that can change our life
Lisa : 15:19 Yes, yes, yes! There they are. It even comes with a companion guide. Once you get the book, you can download. It gives you the address the download the companion guide. I’m doing calls every week to support people in finding what we call your unique value. Once you make the decision that you want to transform your life, transform your circumstances, or uplevel what you’re already doing, then all those questions about how come in. The biggest reason we get fear is because there’s the decision and then there’s this gap between knowing what to do. That’s where we lose confidence. That’s where we get fear. In that gap between the inspiration and the first action. As you probably read, one of the things that we talk about and the reason we give, take this step, take this step, the step-by-step, is because the more we can close that gap between maybe right now you’re inspired… Knowing the first action to take, it closes the gap where being frozen creeps in, being afraid creeps in. So much of that comes from I got this choice, but I don’t know what to do. There’s too many options.
Kimberly: 16:28 Right. You have to keep it moving along. Well, one thing that struck me too, Lisa, is because I’ve read a lot of… as an entrepreneur myself, different business books, different entrepreneurship books, but this has a different energy, where I could feel… There was a spiritual quality to it as well as practical. There was a part in the book where you really got me. Where you talk about… and I’m a fan of… What’s his name? Neale Walsch, who wrote-
Kimberly: 16:57 Conversations with God. But that this wisdom is inside of us and I think so many time we second guess ourselves. We think, oh, I’m not smart enough. I have to get this person’s opinion. We’re also going outside of ourselves. So there’s a part in the book where you talk about listening to that inner wisdom and there’s very practical steps, but I love that there was a spiritual bend to the book as well. I could feel it throughout.
Lisa : 17:22 The publisher that I partnered with on this book, Hay House… I was so honored when they published this book because a lot of my early mentors… Marianne Williamson, Wayne Dyer, Gabby Bernstein, Louise Hay. So many of the personal development mentors that we all love came from this publisher. Partnered with this publisher. Just this year, they opened a business title, which is really more my expertise, but we were the perfect match because you could say this is a… What I’ll say sometimes from our larger events. We teach entrepreneurs how to sell without being salesy. That’s what I’ve been doing for 10 years. How to have confidence making your offer in any situation. I wrote Meant for More because there’s so many people that are right before that. They just need to figure out what their gift is and then learn how to sell and make their offer without being salesy. What the energy is behind having to sell yourself without being salesy
Kimberly: 18:20 What do you mean by that? I know because I read the book, but I think when we think, oh my gosh, I have to sell myself. I have to put something out there or get a new job. How do we do that? I know there’s a whole book, but just an overview. How do we do that without feeling like, ugh. I have to be this multi-level marketing person or the used car salesman. What is the gist of that? The energy of it.
Lisa : 18:48 Meant for More, as you shared, the subtitle is The Proven Formula… and I can only say that because we’ve got 15,000 people that proved it. The Proven Formula to Turn Your Knowledge Into Profits. So this is about taking what you know, what you already have experienced... You don’t need to go get another degree, another certification, more school, or anything. What if in what you already know, there is a unique value that you could help more people with and be paid for it? In Meant for More, are the steps to that. And the first step is exactly… There’s five steps. We walk you through. The first step deals with exactly what you’re talking about. It’s called Making Peace with Sales.
Kimberly: 19:30 Yes, I remember this.
Lisa : 19:33 The interesting part about making peace with sales is that you actually… There’s two pieces. You don’t need to learn how to sell. If you figure out your unique value and you structure the way that you offer in a way that’s irresistible to the people who need your help, then… It’s really more about inviting pursuit than needing to sell. We call it an irresistible offer.
Kimberly: 19:55 It’s a different energy. It’s being magnetic versus pushing, isn’t it?
Lisa : 19:59 Exactly. And the other piece of that equation is… So there’s two pieces. There is learning how to invite pursuit instead of selling. The other thing is that the first person you need to sell is guess who?
Kimberly: 20:13 Yourself.
Lisa : 20:13 You got it, girl! The first person you need to sell is yourself. My 13 year old daughter picked up the book. We just did a Facebook Live on our Facebook page with my daughter and my 16 year old son and they’re both sharing how realizing that that they’re always selling. They’re selling whether they’re asking me to go to Chick-fil-A or… Not one of my favorite companies, but they like the food. Or they are… My daughter wants a trip to Tahoe when quarantine’s over. You’re always selling and for them to say that-
Kimberly: 20:44 My toddler sells. My toddler is always negotiating with me.
Lisa : 20:48 Oh, they’re the best, right? If we only could me that confident and unabashed about what we want.
Kimberly: 20:54 [inaudible 00:20:54] one more minute.
Lisa : 20:56 Exactly! Well, you’re going to see… As the years go on… There’s stories in the book that you’ll be able to make irresistible offers at home and it’s so much better when it’s their rush to watch TV and get their homework done and brush their teeth and get their jammies on because they want to watch a half an hour of TV with you instead of 15 minutes. That’s kind of like… That’s an invite pursuit versus put your clothes on. The nagging. And it’s no different when we’re offering our services, our expertise. Do you want to be that person who’s pushing and nagging and following up? It’s no different as a mom or someone who’s offering your service. Or do you want to be the one who’s inviting pursuit? Where they’re realizing that they want the prize. They’re coming after you for it.
Kimberly: 21:45 This is relevant to whether… Like how you word your website or any offering, whether it’s in person or online or whatever.
Lisa : 21:54 Yes. There’s very practical… When we get into the fifth step, which is making your offer irresistible. It’s called Invite… But we have to figure out what you offer first. So the steps are make peace with sales… and we give you a whole bunch of things that just kind of automatically change your mindset from ew, sales to wow, it’s a disservice not to. It’s a disservice not to. Then, we go through step two, which is… I wish I had time to teach a little more of this, but I think… Let me give you guys a gift that if this is calling to you, you can dive in on this piece.
Discovering your unique value and why you can’t always find it

It’s called Discover Your Unique Value and we walk you through five different steps, where you can start to identify what is that gift that you have, that knowledge that you already have, the expertise already inside you, that you can start making a difference with and making money with right now if you decided to. The problem right now is that it’s so close to you, you can’t see it. It’s like the tip of your nose. You’ve heard that saying. It’s at the tip of your nose so you can’t see it. Put your finger at the tip of your nose and try to see it.
Kimberly: 23:14 It’s too close. When it’s about us… Yeah. It’s easy to compliment your best friend or to say, “Oh, you’re so good at this, this, and this,” but… Especially as women, we lack that skill with ourselves.
Lisa : 23:31 Here’s the thing that’s so fascinating and really counter-intuitive. It’s that… You can’t see it for a couple of reasons, but the big one is because it’s so close. The reason, you guys, that it’s hard to see your unique value is because, in most cases, it’s something that is easy for you and it’s hard for others. It’s obvious and easy to you, but it baffles other people. I’ve been this way since eight years old when I was selling Girl Scout cookies. Making my offer always felt like a service. I never had any hesitation. And yet, other people are like, “Ah, no! I don’t want to sell!”
Kimberly: 25:37 Lisa, your skill is very obvious for business. You’re good at selling. What if someone’s like, “Well, my skill-
Lisa : 25:43 Wait, though. I was 40 when I was really able to realize that it was something unique. That’s the thing. I know you look… This is a perfect example. You look at me and you think, “Well, yours is kind of obvious.” Well, obvious at 40! I wish I had… Yes, I had been out there selling and growing all these other companies, but I never really thought I had anything unique. Everybody on the sales team sold. It’s so easy to miss it. That I had a special piece of it around being confident making your offer. And when I was able to pull that little string, that piece of it… We’ve done now actually over 40 million dollars of sales from my home, raising my kids, as a work-from-home mom and it’s beyond any dream that I had. So I want you to finish what you were going to ask, but I do need to say this is a real time, in real life, very meta example. You look at the other person and you will always think, well, your thing is obvious. You’re great at drawing the best out of people and making them feel good. It’s obvious! But mine’s not so obvious. Because it’s obvious to me looking at you and mine’s obvious to you. So, yeah. If there was-
Kimberly: 27:04 We’re too close to it.
Lisa : 27:06 Yeah. We’re so close to it. Sorry to interrupt. I just was like, such a perfect example.
Kimberly: 27:10 Oh, no, no, no. That is interesting because I think about when you hear these success stories. I love Fast Company and Inc Magazine and you hear about someone that just… You know, the cookie lady. She’s like, “My cookies are so simple, but suddenly, I made this huge brand out of them.” There’s so many things that, like you said, we just dismiss that could actually be our gold mine.
Lisa : 27:33 Kara Goldin is a friend of mine. She owns Hint Water. She’s the founder. I think that’s like a hundred million dollar company right now. She’s a mom who was just looking for a way to get her kids hydrated that tasted good that didn’t have all kinds of sugar and fake sugar in it. Now, she’s in every box store and people are ordering from home. If you haven’t tried Hint Water, it’s the best way to get water in your home. They have caffeinated and sparkling and regular and every flavor and juice boxes, but there’s no juice! None of the sugars and things that we’re not wanting to pump into our kids.
Kimberly: 28:10 I also like the range here. If someone’s listening to this and they say, “Well, I don’t want to have this big company,” you also are speaking to… There was an example about, I think… Was it your daughter’s orchestra teacher or something like that? That was signing people up for a camp and she-

Kimberly: 28:32 Yes, Ms. Julie didn’t present it at the moment so people didn’t sign up for her camp and she could’ve sold it out and she had to follow up for weeks and weeks. It really applies to so many situations. Not if you’re trying to just be in Forbes.
Lisa : 28:46 Yeah. The power of ‘owning your crown’
Kimberly: 31:16 I have to be honest that, again, having the podcast, I get shipped sometimes ten plus books a week. I opened up this package and I said, “Oh, look. Queen of sales conversion,” and I thought, that’s interesting. It was a big hook. And then there’s a section of the book where you talk about naming yourself. Creating a moniker that step you into. And I thought, well, I was one of the first person to talk about beauty inside out. I should call myself the queen of beauty inside out.
Lisa : 31:48 Yeah, listen. This is a chapter under Assume the Throne. There’s a step in your Meant for More journey, where once you know your unique value, you have to own it. Like I said, I knew I was good at sales, but it was not until I was 40 years old that I realized I was waiting for someone to discover me. I just kept thinking someone at one of the companies I worked for was going to crown me or give me my own TV show or make me a star. At 40, it hadn’t happened. Here, I just happened to have this nearby. That’s when I crowned myself.
Kimberly: 32:24 I love it. You owned it.
Lisa : 32:28 I owned it. I crowned myself. At that time, I saw it. It was sales conversion. It was the piece of being confident to make your offer. The irresistible offer. So I crowned myself the queen of sales conversion. Now, looking back, I can see the steps I went through to get to that point. It took me 40 years. It doesn’t have to take… It could take you four pages in my book. I love what you said. You said you should be queen of… What was the words you used just now?
Kimberly: 32:58 Beauty inside out, which is what I’ve been talking about with all my five books, with everything I’ve created. It’s really spiritual and it’s physical and it’s how you eat, it’s how you live, it’s how you… emotional and mental health.
Lisa : 34:03 When you get the Meant for More book, you’re going to see that there’s instructions to download a companion guide with all the exercises. You could be the queen of beauty inside out, but you’re going to see about 25 or 30 other ways that you could choose. You could be the beauty inside out mentor or the beauty inside out coach or guru or temptress.
Kimberly: 34:27 For someone who’s already struggling with confidence, do you think that’s a big step? You have to feel really good about the name. Because even I… I feel like I’m a pretty confident person, but I’m like, if I call myself the queen of something, does that feel egoic? Does it feel weird? But I could also the power of it as well. This is powerful. I said, oh, I’m going to actually read this book.
Lisa : 35:21 The power of it is this. For over a decade, I’ve been booked solid. I’m not saying this in an arrogant way. I’m saying it in that I want to make a difference for people. I want every single person to know their unique value and get out there with their offer. By claiming that one spot, the queen of sales conversion, owning my gift, it’s allowed people to know, oh, if I need someone that fits this conversation right now, she’s the one. She’s the queen of sales conversion. Oh, I want someone to speak on my stage. I’m teaching lead generation. She teaches sales conversion. It lets people know where to plug you in. What fits. There’s a lot to it and, yes, it does also boost your confidence. It’s all part of what we call the Meant for More journey. All these things we’re talking about in 45 minutes. They don’t happen overnight. It’s why we hold your hand through it. It’s why there’s steps. It’s why you put one foot in front of the other. But I will say it can happen a lot faster than you probably imagine.
Kimberly: 36:37 Wow. Well, Lisa, I could pick your brain all day. I’m so grateful for you for putting out these amazing resources. I have to say that I love… You’re living it. There’s a feminine softness to your energy. Sometimes we think about business and sales and entrepreneurship a little more masculine or a little bit abrasive, but it’s wonderful to see a woman in her power, in her divine feminine power. That can be so successful and still be herself and be soft and loving and be a mother. So I just wanted to honor you for that. I think it’s really wonderful.

I was, within three days, doing page proofs of my fourth book that I wrote with Deepak Chopra and going on a press tour six weeks later and doing all this stuff. This time, I’m going to ground in a little bit for myself.
